Interment Made In WOODLAWN GARDENS

NOVEMBER 28, 1928 - JANUARY 8, 2024

A beautiful, bouncing baby girl was born to the proud parents of James and Eva Adderley, in the settlement of Burnt Ground, Long Island. She was the fifth of seven children, and given the name Florrie.

Florrie received her education at the All Age School in Burnt Ground. Upon completion of School, she matriculated to Nassau where she began working in the Hotel Industry. She pursued her passion for farming, and worked on the farm for a few years before working at Sun And Restaurant. It was there that she met Mr. Lightbourne, who offered her a job as a caretaker for his family. She remained employed with The Lightbourne’s for 41 years. She loved Rebecca and Phillip as if they were her own children, and they loved her just as much. Her Granddaughter Latoya saw this first hand when she escorted Florrie to Rebecca’s wedding.

Florrie loved everyone, especially her family, and would give her last to them. If you asked her for something and she happen to say no, just sit there a few minutes and she will give it to you before you leave the porch. She was a generous woman, and could not let anyone leave without offering them something. She loved to cook, and when she did, she performed a miracle with the amount of persons that was able to eat out of that pot.

Florrie loved spending time with her family and her porch became the hub for family gatherings. She was an avid church-goer, and when she could no longer attend in person, the communion was taken to her.

On November 28, 2023, Florrie celebrated her 95th birthday with loved ones. She laughed, ate, told jokes, cried tears of joy and cut her cakes. A few days later, she said she was tired and wanted to stay in bed. She remained confined to a bed until January 8th, when the angels were sent to bring her home.

ORDER of SERVICE

RECEPTION OF THE BODY:

Celebrant: With faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the body of our sister, Florrie for burial. Our sister was washed in Holy Baptism and anointed with the Holy Spirit. Let us therefore, with confidence, pray to God our Heavenly Father, the Giver of life, that he will raise her to perfection in the company of the saints.

The Lord be with you.

All: And also with you

Celebrant: Let us pray.

O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day our sister, Florrie. We thank you for giving her to us, her family and friends, to know and love as a companion on our earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All: Amen

OPENING SENTENCES

Celebrant: Jesus said, I am the resurrection, and I am the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and who ever lives and believes in me shall never die. [John 11:25-26]

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His compassion never fails: every morning they are renewed. [Lamentations 3:22-23]

Jesus said, Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. [John 14:1]

I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. [Romans 8:38-39]

If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. [Romans 14:8-9]

We brought nothing into the world, and we take nothing out. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away: Blessed be the name of the Lord. [Job 1:21]

The eternal God is our refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. [Deuteronomy 33:27]

INTROIT HYMN................................................................................................................ “Through All The Changing Scenes of Life”

Through all the changing scenes of life, in trouble and in joy, the praises of my God shall still my heart and tongue employ. Of his deliv’rance I will boast, till all that are distressed, from my example comfort take and lay their griefs to rest.

Celebrant: Let us pray

O magnify the LORD with me, exalt his holy name; when in distress to him I called, he to my rescue came.

The hosts of God encamp around the dwellings of the just; deliv’rance he affords to all who in his promise trust.

O taste and see that he is good; experience will decide how blest are they, and only they who in the LORD confide. Fear him, you saints, and you will then have nothing else to fear; make serving him your sole delight, your wants shall be his care.

Almighty God, we remember before you today your servant, Florrie, and we pray that, having opened to her the gates of larger life, you will receive her more and more into your joyful service, that, with all who have served you in the past, she may share in the eternal victory of Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

All: Amen.

Reader: A Reading from the Word of God written in Wisdom 3:1-5, 9

But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolishThey seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be a disaster, and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. For though in the sight of others they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself; Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his holy ones, and he watches over his elect.

Reader: A Reading from the Word of God written in Revelation 7:9-17

After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. 10They cried out in a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!’ 11And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God, 12singing, ‘Amen! Blessing and glory andand thanksgiving and honour and power and might be to our God for ever and ever! Amen.’ 13Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, ‘Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?’ 14I said to him, ‘Sir, you are the one that knows.’ Then he said to me, ‘These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

15 For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. 16 They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; 17 for the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’

GRADUAL HYMN

God sent His son, they called Him Jesus; He came to love, heal and forgive; He lived and died to buy my pardon, An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, Because He lives, all fear is gone; Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living, Just because He lives!

THE HOLY GOSPEL: JOHN 14:1-6 (All Stand Please)

Gospellor: The Lord be with you.

Response: And also with you.

“Because He Lives“

How sweet to hold a newborn baby, And feel the pride and joy he gives; But greater still the calm assurance: This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

And then one day, I’ll cross the river, I’ll fight life’s final war with pain; And then, as death gives way to victory, I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives!

Gospellor: A Reading from the Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ According to John

Response: Glory to Christ our Saviour.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. BelieveGod, believe also in me.my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.you know the way to the place where I am going.’said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

GOSPEL RESPONSE ..............................................................................................................................................“Be Still and Know”

Be still and know that I am God, Be still and know that I am God, Be still and know that I am God.

I am the Lord that healeth thee, I am the Lord that healeth thee, I am the Lord that healeth thee.

In thee O Lord, do I put my trust, In thee O Lord, do I put my trust, In thee O Lord, do I put my trust.

SERMON.........................................................................................................................................

The Rev’d Fr. Whitfield Hutcheson

Celebrant: Let us with confidence and hope confess the faith into which we were baptized, as we say,

All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Intercessions .....................................................................................................................................

Alcina Darville (Granddaughter)

All: Hear us, Lord.

All: Hear us, Lord.

Leader: Our sister was washed in Baptism and anointed with the Holy Spirit: Give her fellowship with all your saints.

All: Hear us, Lord

Leader: She was nourished with your Body and Blood: Grant her a place at the table in your heavenly kingdom.

All: Hear us, Lord.

Leader: Comfort us in our sorrows at the death of our sister. Let our faith be our consolation, and eternal life our hope.

All: Hear us Lord

Celebrant: Lord Jesus Christ, we commend to you our sister, Florrie, who was reborn by water and the Spirit in Holy Baptism. Grant that her death may recall to us your victory over death, and be an occasion for us to renew our trust in your Father’s love. Give us, we pray, the faith to follow where you have led the way; and where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, to the ages of ages.

All: Amen.

FIRST OFFERTORY HYMN

Breathe on me, Breath of God, fill me with life anew, that I may love the way you love, and do what you would do.

Breathe on me, Breath of God, until my heart is pure, until my will is one with yours, to do and to endure.

“Breathe On Me Breath of God”

Breathe on me, Breath of God, so shall I never die, but live with you the perfect life for all eternity.

THE PRESENTATION OF THE ELEMENTS ......................................................................... Timoya Cooper (Great-Grand Daughter), Rakell Williams (Godchild) and Antoinette Pratt (Grand Daughter)

Celebrant: Through your goodness Lord, we have this Bread and Wine to offer, the fruit of the earth, and the work of human hands. They will become our spiritual food.

All: All things come from you, Lord, and of your own do we give you. Blessed be God forever. Amen.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

Celebrant: The Lord be with you.

All: And also with you.

Celebrant: Lift up your hearts.

All: We lift them up to the Lord

Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All: It is right to give God thanks and praise

FLORRIE ADDERLEY - PAGE 7

Celebrant: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Father, Almighty, Everlasting God: Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who rose victorious from the dead, and comforts us with the blessed hope of everlasting life. For to your faithful people, O Lord, life is changed, not ended; and when our mortal body lies in death, there is prepared for us a dwelling place eternal in the heavens.

Therefore, we praise you, joining our voices with the angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your name.

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might; heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Celebrant: All glory, praise, and thanksgiving be unto you, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God, you created the world and all mankind, and of your tender mercy gave your only Son Jesus Christ to take our nature upon Him, and to suffer death upon the cross, for our redemption. He made there, by His own oblation of Himself once offered, a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world; and He instituted, and in His holy Gospel commanded us to continue, a perpetual memory of His precious death. until His coming again.

Hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech you; and be pleased to accept, bless and sanctify these gifts and creatures of bread and wine, that they may be for us the Body and Blood of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. For, on the night He was betrayed He took bread, and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to His disciples and said: “Take this, and eat it: This is my Body which is given for you, Do this for the remembrance of me”, And after supper He took the cup of wine: and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins, Whenever you drink it do this for the remembrance of me.”

Celebrant: In faith we acclaim You, O Christ

All: Dying You destroyed our death; Rising You restored our life; Christ Jesus, come in glory

Celebrant: Now therefore, O Lord and heavenly Father, we your servants with all your holy people, having in remembrance the blessed passion, mighty resurrection, and glorious ascension of your beloved Son, do offer unto your Divine Majesty this Bread of eternal life and this Cup of everlasting salvation, rendering thanks to you for the wonderful redemption which you have made possible for us in Him.

And we beseech you O Father, to accept upon your heavenly altar this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; and to grant that by the merits and death of your Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in His blood, we and all your whole Church may obtain remission of our sins and all other benefits of His passion.

And we pray that by the power of your Holy Spirit all who shall be partakers of this holy Communion may be filled with your grace and heavenly benediction, and be numbered in the glorious company of your Saints.

And here we offer and present unto you O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy and lively sacrifice.

And although we are unworthy to offer unto you any sacrifice, yet we beseech you to accept this, our bounden duty and service, not weighing our merits but pardoning our offenses;

Through Jesus Christ our Lord, by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be unto you, O Father Almighty, throughout all ages, world without end.

All: Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Celebrant: As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray:

All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the Glory are Yours, now and forever.

Amen

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD

Celebrant: God of promise, you have prepared a Banquet for us.

All: Happy are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb

THE INVITATION

Celebrant: The Gifts of God for the people of God.

All: Our souls will feast and be satisfied, and we will sing glad songs of praise to Him

THE AGNUS DEI

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant her rest. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant her rest. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant her rest eternal

Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee. Take my moments and my days; let them flow in endless praise, let them flow in endless praise.

Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love. Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee, swift and beautiful for thee.

Take my voice and let me sing always, only, for my King. Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee, filled with messages from thee.

My Life And Let It Be”

Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold. Take my intellect and use every power as thou shalt choose, every power as thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne, it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour at thy feet its treasure store. Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for thee, ever, only, all for thee.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER

All: Almighty God, we thank you that in your great love you have fed us with the spiritual food and drink of the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ, and have given unto us a foretaste of your heavenly banquet. Grant that this Sacrament may be unto us a comfort in affliction, and a pledge to our inheritance in that kingdom where there is no death, neither sorrow nor crying, but the fullness of joy, with all your saints; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen

How bright these glorious spirits shine! Whence all their white array? How came they to the blissful seats of everlasting day?

Lo! these are they from sufferings great who came to realms of light, and in the blood of Christ have washed those robes that shine so bright.

Now with triumphal palms they stand before the throne on high, and serve the God they love amidst the glories of the sky.

Hunger and thirst are felt no more, nor sun with scorching ray: God is their sun, whose cheering beams diffuse eternal day.

The Lamb, who dwells amid the throne, shall o’er them still preside, feed them with nourishment divine, and all their footsteps guide.

In pastures green he’ll lead his flock where living streams appear; and God the Lord from every eye shall wipe off every tear.

COMMENDATION

Celebrant: Give rest, O Christ, to your servant Florrie with your saints.

All: Where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting

Celebrant: You only are immortal, the creator and Maker of mankind; and we are mortal, formed of the earth, and to earth shall we return. For so you did ordain when you created me, saying “You are dust and to dust you shall return.” All of us go down to the dust; yet even at the grave, we make our song: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

All: Give rest, O Christ, to your servant with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.

(The Celebrant sprinkles the coffin with Holy Water to remind us that in the waters of Baptism we were made members of Christ, Children of God and inheritors of the Kingdom of Heaven. Next, he censes the remains. Incense is a symbol of the prayers of earth and heaven. See Rev. 8:3, 4).

RECESSIONAL HYMN .......................................................................................................................................... “It Is Finished”

There’s a line that is drawn through the ages

On that line stands that old rugged cross

On that cross a battle is raging

For the gain of a man’s soul or it’s loss

It is finished, the battle is over

It is finished, there’ll be no more war

It is finished, the end of the conflict

It is finished, and Jesus is Lord

The earth shakes with the force of the conflict

And the sun refuses to shine

There hangs God’s son in the balance

And then through the darkness he cries

Then I heard that the king of the ages

Had fought all my battles for me

And victory, victory was mine for the claiming

And now praise his name, I am free

FLORRIE ADDERLEY - PAGE 10

GRAVE SIDE HYMNS

“IT’S ALRIGHT NOW”

There was a time I traveled

A lonely sinful road

Beneath a heavy burden bending low

But now all things are different

For Jesus took my load

It’s alright now I’m His I know

It’s alright now

For I am in my Savior’s care

It’s alright now

My Savior hears and answers prayer

He’ll walk beside me

‘Til I climb the heav’nly stair

And ev’rything is alright now

A-down a lonely pathway

Without a friend to guide

I walked in sin and sorrow all alone

‘Til Jesus came and found me

And drew me to His side

It’s alright now for I’m His own

No more in sin I wander

No more in darkness roam

The Lord has placed

My feet on higher ground

Each day new heights I’m gaining

My soul is nearing home

It’s alright now I’m heaven bound

“GLAD REUNION DAY”

There will be a happy meeting in Heaven, I know When we see the many loved ones we’ve known here below Gathered on that blessed hilltop with hearts all aglow That will be a glad reunion day.

Glad day, a wonderful day, Glad day, a glorious day, There with all the holy angels and loved ones to stay That will be a glad reunion day.

There within the holy city we’ll sing and rejoice, Praising Christ the blessed savior with heart and with voice, Tell him how we came to love him and make him our choice, That will be a glad reunion day.

When we live a million years in that wonderful place Basking in the love of Jesus, beholding His face It will seem but just a moment of praising His grace That will be a glad reunion day.

“WHEN PEACE LIKE A RIVER”

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul.

It is well, with my soul, It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live: If Jordan above me shall roll, No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait, The sky, not the grave, is our goal;

A TRIBUTE TO MY Grammy

I thought of you today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday, and the days before that to. My mind knows that you have transitioned, yet I find myself picking up the phone to call you and expecting to see you when I go there. Your Kindness and love were special and your heart was pure and true. Grammy you made things better, just by being you. Words cannot describe the loss I feel having to say goodbye to you. However, I find comfort in knowing that you are with that Great Man Above and you were ready to meet him. I will think of you in silence, and I will often speak your name, your memory is a keepsake from which I’ll never part. God has you in his arms, but I will forever have you in my heart.

I LOVE YOU MY GRAMMY.Latoya

A TRIBUTE TO My Goddie

I am saddened by the death of my Goddie, Florrie Adderley and write this tribute to honor her and in remembrance of the love and bond we shared. My Goddie was always there for me and my memory of her loving kindness shall remain in my heart forever. My Goddie and I loved each other different. As far as I was concerned, only me had Goddie. I called her Goddie and she also called me Goddie.

At the age of about 4 or 5, I recall pushing a juju seed in my nose thinking it would move from one nostril to the next, it didn’t. I recall being told to blow my nose with the hope of the seed dropping out, it didn’t. I was taken to the clinic and the nurse told my mother that I had to be taken to the hospital to have the juju seed removed from my nose. In preparation to head to the hospital, by Goddie came by and acted quickly by using a bobby pin and pulled the seed out of my nose. As a child going to her tuck shop, she never accepted money from me and always gave me whatever I wanted from the shop. My Goddie was the only person that spoiled

My Goddie remembered how I love guineps and always secured a bag for me when in season. During summer 2023 she called me to come for some guineps, she said “Goddie I gat some sweet guineps for you, you don’t have to bring me nothing, you just come.” I went ahead and took something for her and she was like, you didn’t have to, didn’t I tell you not to. I replied, I can’t come to see you empty

handed; I always reminded her that it was my time to take care of her. My Goddie was kind to all, she loved to give and wasn’t concerned about receiving. I don’t recall her having someone leave her porch empty handed.

Fond memories will forever live in my heart of my Goddie as she taught me that sharing is caring, kindness and generosity. Having lunch with my Goddie on her porch meant so much to me as spending that quality time was the highlight of my day. I shall miss hearing her voice and seeing her beautiful smile. I was privileged to have her as a Godmother and can proudly say that my Goddie was the World’s Greatest Godmother. Whilst I will miss her, I celebrate the many years I had with her. 95 years was indeed a blessing and that length of life is denied to many. My Goddie was truly blessed! The thought of my Goddie going home to be with our Lord and Saviour and being my Guardian Angel, brings me comfort. Precious, loving memories will live in my heart forever

WITH LOVE, YOUR GODDIE
