MARCH 10, 1951 - NOVEMBER 11, 2024
On March 10th, 1951, the home of Vincent & Learline Burrows, in the quiet settlement of Lower Deadman’s Cay, Long Island, was abuzz with excitement at the birth of their first child, Eric Linburgh.
Being the oldest of nine children, at a very young age, Eric was taught homemaking skills to assist his mother with the care of his younger siblings as his father was stationed in the United States of America on “the Contract”.
Eric’s early education began at Deadman’s Cay All Age School and continued on to Buckley’s All Age School. As was customary in that era, Eric left school at the age of 14.
Having an industrious spirit, Eric joined the team of the road development project in Long Island. With a desire to learn a trade he became a plumbing apprentice to the late Kingsley Edgecombe, which kick-started his career as an exceptional plumber. Eric moved to Nassau in his late teens and went to work at Ritchie’s Electric, where he began his training as an electrician. Some years later he joined the staff at Island Wholesale and later at TOM’S . . . T & A Wholesale as a Warehouse Manager, where he retired in 1999.
In 1970, Eric met the love of his life, the charming and beautiful Ivy Darville. After a courtship of three years, they were joined together in Holy Matrimony on October 6th, 1973. This union produced two daughters, Paulette and Raquel. He was later blessed with the company of three grandchildren that loved “Papa Eric” more than the world can imagine.
Eric was definitely a family man, he loved and adored his ‘three girls’. They enjoyed island hopping and camping on Rose Island with Eric’s close friends and coworkers and family gatherings with both the Darville’s and the Burrows’.
Eric’s warm, pleasant and compassionate nature endeared him to all. He was Uncle Eric to his in-laws and to their in-laws. He immediately became a son and brother to Ivy’s family. His siblings’ spouses became his siblings, not in-laws. As a matter of fact, the Burrows and Darville’s ‘in-law’ families became his family too. His nieces and nephews enjoyed a special adoration for Uncle Eric. He was affectionately called ‘Papa Eric’ by his children’s and grandchildren’s co-workers.
Eric’s fascination with planes led to him enrolling in the Oakes Field Flying Club, where he spent most of his spare time. He obtained his Private Pilot’s License in August 1973. Thereafter, many of his weekends were spent flying to Long Island and various family islands with his family and friends.
Eric’s love for flying was brought to an abrupt halt in 1995, after suffering a near death experience. He became seriously ill and was hospitalized for almost six weeks, spending ten days in the Intensive Care Unit. His Godfearing family prayed incessantly for him, Eric miraculously recovered and eventually returned to work after six months.
Eric made the decision to return to his hometown of Long Island and began building his retirement home in Deadman’s Cay. He took the final step of relocating in during the Christmas 1999 & New Year’s 2000 holidays.
Upon his return to Long Island, Eric worked along with Kingsley Edgecombe for a short while then branched out on his own and established himself as a reputable plumber throughout the community.
with his grandchildren. He visited Nassau (as he would say) to attend doctor. However, those visits coincidentally occurred around special events. Birthdays; anniversaries; graduations. A few times he visited Nassau to ‘nurse’ his children in sickness, but stubbornly refused to admit it.
He particularly enjoyed trips to Ohio, New York and Canada to visit his grandchildren. During the entire trip he always said that he had to hurry back to Long Island. He had two trips planned for 2025… in January for his annual doctor’s visit and of course for early birthday celebrations as well. He was looking forward to his summer trip to New Orleans and Oklahoma with his granddaughter.
Although he was a man of little words, he always had an answer for everything… airplanes, plumbing, electrical, construction, auto mechanics, the weather, etc. He was always ready to try new experiences… new (old/antique) cars; new foods; new drinks (even iced coffee) but his favorites were hot coffee; orange soda; pound or strawberry cake; vanilla ice cream.
He was also a pet lover, favouring cats. However, he reluctantly became ‘papa’ to three Shih-Poo fur babies Mascara, Bailey and Ori. He ensured they had breakfast, lunch and dinner. If he bought lunch he saved some for the dogs and they eagerly waited to be fed. Many times they would go ‘missing’, only to be found in the room with Eric.

Eric spent the past 25 years of his life quietly carrying out his daily routine of beautifying his yard, working on his plumbing jobs, watching the planes come and go at Deadman’s Cay Airport, and enjoying the company of those that frequented Bling Bling / Double Shots on a daily basis. Everyone enjoyed Eric’s sense of humour and were assured of a laugh in his company.

CALL TO WORSHIP
Evangelist Andrew M. Major
OPENING HYMN ....................................................................................................................... “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus”
Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus Just to take Him at His Word Just to rest upon His promise Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord”
I’m so glad I learned to trust Him Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend And I know that He is with me Will be with me to the end
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him, How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, Oh, for grace to trust Him more
RESPONSIVE READING ..............................................................................................................
Evangelist Andrew M. Major
Minister: Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, even before you formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting You are God. Therefore out of the depth, I cried to You, oh Lord hear my voice.
Assembly: Oh Lord, let Your ear be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
Minister: If You, oh Lord, should mark our sins, Lord who would survive?
Assembly: But with You is found forgiveness, for this we revere You.
Minister: My soul is waiting for the Lord, trust in Your word.
Assembly: My soul is longing for the Lord more than the watchmen for the daybreak
Minister: Because with the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption.
Assembly: Israel, indeed He will redeem from all its iniquities, hope thou in the Lord!
Minister: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear the eternal God is our refuge, and underneath His everlasting arms
Assembly: I place all my trust in my God, all my hope is in Your saving word
All: Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in Me though he dies, yet shall he live and who believe in Me shall never die. Do you believe this? Yes Lord, we believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world
CONGREGATIONAL HYMN ........................................................................................................... “The Lord is my Shepherd”
The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want; He makes me down to lie In pastures green; He leadeth me The quiet waters by.
Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale, Yet will I fear no ill; For Thou art with me, and Thy rod And staff me comfort still.
My soul He doth restore again, And me to walk doth make Within the paths of righteousness, E’en for His own name’s sake.
My table Thou hast furnished In presence of my foes; My head Thou dost with oil anoint, And my cup overflows.
OBITUARY
Goodness and mercy all my life Shall surely follow me, And in God’s house forevermore My dwelling-place shall be.

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN ....................................................................................................................... “Because He Lives”
God sent His song, they called Him, Jesus; He came to love, heal and forgive; He lived and died to but my pardon, An empty grave is there to prove my Saviour lives!
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, Because He lives, all fear is gone; Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living, Just because He lives!
How sweet to hold a newborn baby, And feel the pride and joy he brings; But greater still the calm assurance; This child can face uncertain days because He lives!
And then one day, I’ll cross the river, I’ll fight life’s final war with pain; And then, as death gives way to victory, I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know He lives! OLD TESTAMENT

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN .....................................................................................................................“Precious Memories”
Precious mem’ries, unseen angels Sent from somewhere to my soul; How they linger, ever near me, And the sacred past unfold.
Precious mem’ries, how they linger, How the ever flood my soul, In the stillness of the midnight, Precious, sacred scenes unfold.
AS I KNEW HIM
Precious father, loving mother, Fly across the lonely years; And old home scenes of my childhood, In fond memory appear.
In the stillness of the midnight, Echoes from the past I hear; Old time singing, gladness bringing, From that lovely land somewhere.
As I travel on life’s pathway, Know not what the years may hold; As I ponder, hope grows fonder, Precious mem’ries flood my soul.

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN ........................................................................................................................ “Amazing Grace”
Amazing grace! how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch; like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see.
The Lord hath promised good to me, His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed!
When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we first begun.

HYMN ........................................................................................................................................... “When We All Get to Heaven”
Sing the wondrous love of Jesus
Sing His mercy and His grace
In the mansions bright and blessed
He’ll prepare for us a place.
When we all get to Heaven
What a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus
We’ll sing and shout the victory!
EULOGY
While we walk the pilgrim pathway
Clouds will overspread the sky
But when travelling days are over
Not a shadow, not a sigh.
Let us then be true and faithful
Trusting, serving every day
Just one glimpse of Him in glory
Will the toils of life repay.
Evangelist Andrew M. Major
PRAYER FOR THE FAMILY ....................................................................................................................... Elder Kevin Beneby
RECESSIONAL HYMN “It’s Alright Now”
There was a time I travelled
A lonely sinful road
Beneath a heavy burden bending low
But now all things are different
For Jesus took my load
It’s alright now, I’m His I know.
It’s alright now for I am in my Saviour’s care
It’s alright now my Saviour hears and answers
prayer; He’ll walk with me
‘Til I climb the heavenly stair
And everything is alright now.
A’ down a lonely pathway
Without a friend to guide
I walked in sin and sorrow all alone
‘Til Jesus came and found me
And drew me to His side
It’s alright now for I’m His own.
No more in sin I wander
No more in darkness roam
The Lord has placed my feet on higher ground;
Each day new heights I’m gaining
My soul is nearing home
It’s alright now, I’m heaven bound.
HYMN .......................................................................................................................................................... “Glad Reunion Day”
There will be a happy meeting in heaven I know
When we see the many loved ones
We’ve known here below
Gather on the blessed hilltops
With hearts all aglow
That will be a glad reunion day.
Glad day, a wonderful day
Glad day, a glorious day
There with all the holy angels
And loved ones to stay
That will be a glad reunion day.
There within the holy city we’ll sing and rejoice
Praising Christ the blessed Saviour
With heart and with voice
Tell him how we came to love Him
And make Him our choice
That will be a glad reunion day.
When we live a million years
In that wonderful place
Basking in the love of Jesus beholding His face
It will seem but just a moment of praising His grace.
That will be glad reunion day.
PRAYER .........................................................................................................................................................................
HYMN
When peace like a river attended my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
It is well (it is well),
With my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul.
COMMITTAL
HYMN
There’s a line that is drawn through the ages
On that line stands that old rugged cross
On that cross a battle is raging
For the gain of a man’s soul or it’s loss
It is finished, the battle is over
It is finished, there’ll be no more war
It is finished, the end of the conflict
It is finished, and Jesus is Lord
“It Is Well With My Soul”
My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin, not in part but the whole
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, oh, my soul.
And Lord haste the day when my faith shall be sight. The clouds be rolled back as a scroll
The trumpet shall sound and the Lord shall descend.
Even so, it is well with my soul.
Evangelist Andrew M. Major
“It is Finished”
On one side, march the forces of evil
All the demons and all the devils of hell
On the other the angels of glory
And they meet on Golgotha’s hill
I am not OK, I’m barely getting by. I’m losing track of days, I’m losing sleep at night. I am not okay, I’m hanging on the rails. So if I say I’m fine, just know I learned to hide it well. I know I can’t be the only one who’s holding on for dear life. But I know God knows, when it’s all said and done, I’m not okay, but it’s all gonna be alright. It’s not OK, but we’re all gonna be alright.
I woke up today, I almost stayed in bed. I had the devil on my back, voices in my head. Some days it all ain’t bad, some days it all gets worse. Some days I swear I’m better off laying in the dirt. I know I can’t be the only one who’s holding on for dear life. But I know God knows, when it’s all said and done, I’m not okay, but it’s all gonna be alright. It’s not OK, but we’re all gonna be alright.
I know one day we’ll see the other side. The pain will wash away in a Holy Water tide. And we all gonna be alright. I know I can’t be the only one who’s holding on for dear life. But I know God knows, when it’s all said and done, I’m not okay, but it’s all gonna be alright. It’s not OK, but we’re all gonna be alright. We are not OK and it’s alright.
Youngblood thinks there’s always tomorrow. I miss your touch on nights when I’m hollow. I know you crossed a bridge that I can’t follow. Since the love that you left is all that I get, I want you to know that if I can’t be close to you I’ll settle for the ghost of you. I miss you more than life, and if you can’t be next to me, your memory is ecstasy.
I miss you more than life. I miss you more than life.
Youngblood thinks there’s always tomorrow. I need more time, but time can’t be borrowed. I’d leave it all behind if I could follow. Since the love that you left is all that I get, I want you to know that if I can’t be close to you, I’ll settle for the ghost of you. I miss you more than life, and if you can’t be next to me, your memory is ecstasy. I miss you more than life. I miss you more than life.
