THE LIFE OF

EARLY LIFE

On September 13th, 1965, on the beautiful island of Matthew Town, Inagua, the late Rev. Godfrey & Barbara Bain welcomed their beautiful red-haired baby boy into the world. He was given the name Dawson Timothy, a feisty, spirited fireball, and a true force to be reckoned with. He began his early education at Inagua All Age School and saw that experience as one of fun and adventure. Not a stranger to mischief, he was courageous, daring and a lover of dogs. He took joy in training them to be just as rambunctious as he was. He also enjoyed spending time with his best friend and older brother Tyrone, a close relationship he would continue throughout the course of his life.

WORK LIFE

Dawson enjoyed working with his hands and followed in his father’s footstep in gaining employment with Morton Salt Company on the island of Inagua. He excelled in his field as a Welder and eventually worked his way up to becoming a Tradesman IV. He remained in the company’s employ for 31 years. Dawson was a dreamer, a visionary and a hard worker who set his eyes on becoming a businessman. In addition to his regular employment, he eventually became self-employed in the area of machinery. This was a role that he loved and maintained for over 15 years.

FAMILY LIFE

In the late eighties, Dawson began dating his soul mate, Cheryl Aileen. This was a match that he quickly became enamored with, a match that stood the test of time, a

match that resulted in marriage as foretold by his mother. In September 1991, Dawson began his journey into fatherhood with birth of his beautiful daughter Dorchelle, who quickly became the apple of his eye. On October 16th, 1993, Cheryl and Dawson became husband and wife and in December 1998 they welcomed another princess, Chelsea.

CHURCH & COMMUNITY LIFE

Under the tutelage of his father and Pastor of Zion Baptist Church, Inagua, Dawson was active in his church. There, they worked together side-by-side to ensure the upkeep of the church. For most of his life he was a member of the choir, later he became an usher and eventually became a part of the fund raising committee. He also was very community minded and often looked for ways to push the community forward. As he grew older, he became increasingly passionate about politics and the progression of his community. In 2019, Dawson was given the honor of becoming a Justice of the Peace, a role that he cherished and was so proud of.

ASSIGNMENT COMPLETE

On September 16th, 2021, Dawson proudly completed his final duties in both his recreational and professional life. Then on September 20th, along with his wife, he boarded Bahamas Air for a final time leaving Inagua for the capital, Nassau. He became ill shortly thereafter and was admitted to Doctor’s hospital. Finally, on October 5th, he transitioned to his heavenly home to be united with his Savior and the many loved ones he lost not long ago.

A Time to be Born

On the beautiful island of Great Inagua, November 2nd, 1963 Thomas and Annie Ellis welcomed their daughter Cheryl Aileen. She along with the others was a joy to her proud parents. She was quiet, kind -hearted and a very active member attending Sunday school and both Sunday morning and night services at St. Philips Anglican Church. This also molded Cheryl into the person she grew to be.

A Time to Learn

Cheryl received her early education at Inagua All Age School and later attended Pierson High School, South Caicos, in her later years. There she graduated and received her high school diploma. Upon completion, she returned home to the island of Inagua to obtain employment.

A time to Work

In 1982, she was one of the founding members of Busy Bee Pre-School where she taught for three years. Later in 1985, she began her career at Morton Bahamas Limited in the Stock Department, and after a number of years she was transferred to the Human Resources Department. Cheryl was a dedicated, honest and hardworking woman, who found joy in helping others. After 31 years of

employment, she retired from Morton Bahamas in January, 2021. Not one to sit still, she continued doing things that made her happy including baking, reading and spending time at home with family. She would often say “I love being at home”

A time to Love

On October 16th, 1993 Cheryl got married to her prince charming and the love of her life, Dawson Bain. They enjoyed each other’s company especially in their later years. Every evening she was spoiled with long rides from one end of the island to the other, which she enjoyed immensely. Cheryl loved her family and never missed out on our special events, going above and beyond to ensure time was well spent. She was a precious gift given to us by God and as the youngest sister, she was dearly loved. She was quiet, shy, caring, compassionate and always possessed a positive attitude. Our baby sister always reciprocated the love that was shown to her, a true example of a virtuous woman.

A time to Die

On September 20th 2021, Cheryl and Dawson left their home, and several days she was admitted into Doctors Hospital where she was hospitalized for one month. On October 25th, 2021 Cheryl quietly slipped from time to eternity to be with the Lord.

Oh what singing, oh what shouting On that happy morning when we all shall rise Oh what glory, Hallelujah

Seems that now I almost see, all the sainted dead Rising for that jubilee, that is just ahead In the twinkling of an eye, changed with them to be All the living saints to fly, to that jubilee.

When with all that heavenly host, we begin to sing Singing in the Holy Ghost, how the heavens will ring Millions there will join the song, with them we shall be Praising Christ through ages long, heaven’s jubilee.

Hold to God’s unchanging hand, Hold to God’s unchanging hand; Build your hopes on things eternal, Hold to God’s unchanging hand.

Trust in Him who will not leave you, Whatsoever years may bring, If by earthly friends forsaken Still more closely to Him cling.

“THE DAY THOU GAVEST IS ENDED”

The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended, The darkness falls at Thy behest; To Thee our morning hymns ascended, Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.

We thank Thee that Thy church, unsleeping, While earth rolls onward into light, Through all the world her watch is keeping, And rests not now by day or night.

As o’er each continent and island The dawn leads on another day, The voice of prayer is never silent, Nor dies the strain of praise away.

The sun that bids us rest is waking Our brethren ’neath the western sky, And hour by hour fresh lips are making Thy wondrous doings heard on high.

So be it, Lord; Thy throne shall never, Like earth’s proud empires, pass away: Thy kingdom stands, and grows forever, Till all Thy creatures own Thy sway.

There’s a city of light where there cometh no night, ‘Tis a city of beauty of untold;

All my treasures are there and its beauty I’ll share When I get to that city of gold.

When I leave all trouble and care, I will say good morning up there; I will have great gladness untold, When I get to that city of gold.

There’s no sorrow up there in that city so fair And no sickness can enter I’m told; Shadows all will have flown, I will meet friends I’ve known When we get to that city of gold.

Won’t you go there with me to the home of the free, Would you see heaven’s beauty unfold?

If you will come along we will sing heaven’s song, When we get to that city of gold.

“WHEN PEACE LIKE A RIVER

When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, “It is well, it is well with my soul.”

It is well with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control: that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and has shed his own blood for my soul.

My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! my sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more; praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend; even so, it is well with my soul.

TRIBUTE TO

UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN

A father’s love is unmatched; his dedication to family knows no end. His comforting smile and laughter can make the dullest grey duties beam with excitement and joy. His knowledge surpasses all of your understanding and helps you flourish pass even your imaginations. Daddy you were a legend, our counselor, teacher, bush mechanic and above all our best friend. Although you are gone your love will always carry us through forever and always.

A mother’s love is tender and pure. She is a nurse when we are sick, a nurturer, best friend, confidant and the glue that kept our family together. Mommy, you were such a sweet and quite angel. You had such a warm and loving soul. You were passionate in everything that you put your hands to and your love for our family knew no bounds.

To say goodbye to such loving parents is the most difficult task of our lives that we must complete but you are forever in our hearts and will continue to live on through us. We will continue to cherish all of the memories and adventures we shared. Rest in Heaven mom and dad. We are comforted in knowing that you will continue to watch over us and your voices will continue to guide us in our journeys through life.

YOUR LOVING DAUGHTERS

To Our Loving Sister, Cheryl

Our hearts were shattered when we learned that our baby sister Cheryl became ill, we were aggrieved knowing that she was experiencing such deep suffering.

Cheryl, we never left you in spirit, we prayed and called on Jesus until the day you were gracefully called away and took your final flight to be with your Lord and Savior.

Chea as we affectionately called you, we will surely miss you, as our siblings’ chain has been broken outwardly, but our link remains firm

and strong as we will continue to honor and treasure the wonderful memories you left with us.

We loved you in life and we will love you in death. Sleep on in peace dear sister

until we meet again. For all of us, you gave your best and now the time has come for you to rest. So go in peace, you have earned your sleep and your love in our hearts we will eternally keep.

Our Brother Dawson

Our brother was one of our heroes in life. We hold on to so many precious memories of a mischievous little boy climbing trees, riding bicycles, shooting BB gun pellets, and just enjoying life. You possessed a largerthan-life personality, the quintessential “big cheese” that never settled for mediocrity. Everything that you did in life was done in grand fashion, and you embraced every opportunity possible for the betterment of yourself and your family both immediate and extended.

You had so much left to offer the world, you accomplished quite a bit in the too short 55 years that God gave you to us. Although, many plans were made, your work on earth was

complete and thus, God called you home to Him. Not satisfied to go alone, you took with you the love of your life, and held on to her tightly and carried her along in that final dance, continuing to enjoy her company in the thereafter. Rest assured, we will continue to watch over your girls and remind them of your legacy. Although you are gone, they will never be alone.

Rest on our beloved brother Dawson, you are in the Savior’s care, we know that Mom and Dad were happy to welcome you home. We will love you always and will never forget you! We will meet again someday and oh what a happy reunion that will be!

Forever in our Hearts!
