On July 3, 1938, in the settlement of Major’s Cay, Crooked Island, Joseph and Cetella Deleveaux became proud parents to their sixth and last child, Conville Bernardo Deleveaux.

Conville received his early education at the Crooked Island all age school. At the tender age of 16, he moved to New Providence seeking employment and commenced a trade in construction with Cavalier Construction where served under his elder brother Donald who was a Foreman at the time. Conville became a master carpenter at the age of 18 and a year later he embarked on a new and exciting opportunity in Orange Grove, Florida where he would spend the next 3 years working on “the contract.”

On his return to the Bahamas in 1960, Conville met the love of his life, Virginia Rebecca (nee Ferguson) and they were married on June 28,1962. This union produced five children, Conville Jr., Wilver, Lanita, Essel, and Ryan.

Resuming his employment with Cavalier, Conville was in charge of the construction of many monumental Bahamian buildings such as Claughton House, Conchrest Apartments, Norfolk House, Sassoon Building, SFE Bank Building, and Victoria Court Apartments.

In his quest to further his knowledge in the construction industry he enrolled in ICS courses and later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Science from Florida International University with highest honors (summa cum laude).

Conville worked as an architect for some of the prominent Architectural firms in the Bahamas including Patrick Rahming, Alexiou & Associates, and RobJohn’s Clarke & Co. and was a member of the Bahamas Board of Architects. In the early ‘90’s, Conville went on to establish his own successful Architectural firm, C. Bernardo Deleveaux & Associates.

Conville’s designs were ahead of the times. Throughout the Bahamas, he was known as an architectural guru for church edifices which can be seen throughout the Island, among them: The Mosque, St. Paul’s Baptist Church, Mission

Baptist Church, Good Samaritan Church, and was a consultant in the design of Five Porches of Deliverance Apostolic Center.

Conville loved fishing and cooking, he also participated in dart and pool tournaments and won many trophies. He had a keen interest in current events, politics, architecture and the Bible. Contractors and those who knew his background in the construction field would often come to get advice on whatever projects they were working on. He was an architect at heart and did not cut corners.

On January 1, 2024 Conville was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pains. He remained hospitalized until he took his last breath on January 15, 2024 at approximately 8:51 pm.

Conville will be missed by his wife of 62 years Virginia, his children Conville Jr., Wilver (Kimberley), Lanita Strachan (Dale), Essel Spruill, and Ryan (Kristine); Grandchildren: Gianni, Chequelle, Warren, Lacquell, Christal, Royce, Meyasol, Hernst, Renaldo; Great Grandchildren: Gianna, Azekiel, J’kara, J’cody, Lachai and Elliana; Sisters-In-Law: Mabel Strachan, Adline Rolle, Ellen Ferguson, Shirley Ferguson; Brothers-In-Law: Elton (Fletsch) Ferguson, Pastor Patrick Rolle, JP., Robert Ferguson. It Is Finished

Those who read this cannot conceive What the name “Deddy” meant to us: he was our provider, he was our protector: he was not fictious.

Believe it or not, flawed or perfect: he was here yesterday, I held him; I helped him: Then, “Deddy” went away.

Deddy, you left us, But we understand You were blessed. You took care of us Never to say goodbye again, Today, your body will rest.

Throughout my life, you set the pace and direction for which my life ought to go. It is well quoted in the scriptures, bend the tree when you are young and when you are old you will not depart from it. For this I am thankful, it shows that while many thought I would have been the black sheep of the family, I have blossomed from the ugly duckling into the beautiful swan; one that you can say you are proud of. Because of you, I can say that I am somebody today. If I may say one more thing, the chastisement that you have given me is one short, if I had gotten that one more beating I believe that I would have been the Prime Minister today. Nevertheless, I thank you.

No nonsense man

Vigilant, very cautious

Intelligent- versed in politic, architecture, the Bible and more

Loved to cook and loved his family.

Learned and a lengthy speaker that applied logic

Educated and educator. Gave life lessons

My father was one that believed in discipline (Proverbs 13:24). He was an educator (Proverbs 22:6). He was conservative. He made sure you did not waste electricity or water.

He was a provider. I never went to bed hungry or wondered where the next meal was coming from. He was a hard worker and he had the calluses to show for it. He created memories and gave life lessons that I will never forget. Always in my heart. Take your rest in the arms of Jesus.

Your example of how to love, provide, and protect has made me the father I am today. Every time I find myself checking locks before bed, or making my kids say “Good morning” to me, I smile and say, thank you Deddy. Until our heavenly reunion, rest well.

I was born your grandson but you raised me as your son.

You made sure I was never hungry and kept me safe . I remember you asking me “your belly full?” and smiling when I said yes. You were a great provider, protector and teacher. You were my hero and always wanted the best for me. You taught me how to be a good father, husband and a man by showing me everyday.

I will cherish the memories and life lessons you gave me. I will keep them close to my heart.

Continue to watch over us from heaven. I love and miss you Deddy.

To My Beloved Uncle

All my life I have known you. You were not only an uncle, but a father figure to me. You were always there to offer your love, support and advice and words of wisdom!

As a child growing up on the island, I can remember you always leaving me a part of your breakfast. On another occasion, before you left home to go back on the contract you left me 3 pounds and 10 shillings. I was pleasantly surprised, as this was a lot of money for a 10 year old child. I always enjoyed visiting or talking with you on the phone. You often reminisced about the early days of life.

Uncle you were an exceptional man of great vision. You always strived to be the best in whatever you did. When I visited, you clearly had an assurance that all was well with your soul and that you were ready to go home to your mansion not made by human hands. I thank God for your life and legacy and the time He allowed me to spend with you.

Remembering Our Dear Uncle Conville

As children, we feared you. To us, you were a giant whose voice would shake the house. You were a disciplinarian, a no-nonsense man.

You always made sure we ate...

Weekends were for the best potato bread and macaroni and cheese...yum! You were the best chef.

As adults, our view of you changed and you became a friendly giant.

Your greeting was always, “Bonjour. Comment allez-vous” followed by a warm, friendly smile.

Trying to sneak pass you to avoid a political conversation was futile. Once you walked through that door, you ambushed us into conversation. Whether it was PLP or FMN, Biden or Trump you would let your many views be heard. You were well read and we could count on ‘learning something new’ after being bamboozled into a conversation with you.
