THE PAPER FASHI ON S HOW RE A CHE S WHOLE NE W HE IGHTS Already the largest show of its kind, the 15th Annual Paper Fashion Show was one of the event’s largest years yet. Over 950 guests and 100 volunteers attended The Hangar at Stanley Marketplace as 49 breathtakingly beautiful fashions, all designed entirely out of paper, took the stage. Shining light on Denver talent as well as designers from across the world, this allvolunteer organized and run event benefits The One Club For Creativity Denver’s education and mentorship programs, scholarship funds, and industry events, and has raised over $62,000 for the local non-profit, Downtown Aurora Visual Arts (DAVA). Dedicated to providing after-school arts programs for urban youth, several of DAVA’s students also designed fashions, modeled and helped judge the show itself. Kicking off with complimentary drinks, bites, and booths full of fascinating, tactile samples from today’s top paper companies, the Paper Fashion Show was quickly up and off without a hitch. As the clock neared 7:45, everyone filed into the Hangar, the lights dimmed, and the crowd roared as DJ Simone and host, yagirlcedes introduced the first of 49 jaw-dropping fashions. Each of the 49 teams, 12 of which were student-lead, averaged 200~300 hours worth of work on their fashion. With the theme of flight, the event showcased everything from elaborate, 3D pop-up-book inspired dresses to fashions that would easily fit in on Rodeo Drive. Huge thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers, designers, hair and makeup teams, photographers, videographers, and every single person who attended. The show simply could not have happened without any of you. And we can’t wait to do it again next year! 2 019 J U D G E S GABRIEL “CISCO” MEDINA - YOCISCO CEO/DESIGNER Gabriel “Cisco” Medina is a Colorado native and founder of YOCISCO, a men’s underwear brand which offers functional, fashionable bamboo underwear with base layers that accommodate lounging or sport-like activities. Launched in 2013, YOSICO has amassed 50,000 followers and is sold in 3 countries. While managing the growth of his brand, Gabriel also serves as co-chair of Fashion Group International Denver. When asked what his goal for the brand was, he said “to fuel a movement of confidence for all men to feel good about their bodies by providing high quality underwear that makes a man look and feel his best.”
M EGAN TI M LI N - VINTAGE VIEW MARKETING/ FASHION WARRIOR Fashion industry warrior, Megan Timlin came onto the scene in 2010 when she began interning for Brandi Shigley at Fashion Denver. Her love for social media, fashion shows and community led her to open Whorl Shop, a boutique in the Highlands, in 2014. In two years, Megan created a community where she empowered local designers and helped grow the Denver fashion scene. Currently, Megan works with clients on social media marketing and is making a re-emergence in the fashion show scene. Megan’s perfect day is spent in RiNo browsing local boutiques, trying the latest foodie spot, and quoting Sex and The City with her friends.
CASTLE SEARCY - TOOTSIES THE NAIL SHOPPE/ DENVER STARTUP WEEK/ ATRIUM REALTY Essentially a Colorado native, Castle is the co-founder and owner of Denver’s award-winning Tootsies the Nail Shoppe. Castle also serves as the Design Track Chair for Denver Startup Week and recently produced Between Us: The Downtown Denver Alleyways Project. In addition to this, Castle is also an Associate Broker with Atrium Realty, and is affiliated with CultureHaus, Rebelle by Tootsies Salon, Wingbandits, Denver Film Festival and Santa Fe Independent Film Festival. Prior to her foray into the entrepreneurial world, Searcy spent 11 years in marketing, design, and product development in the licensed sports apparel industry.
STEPHAN LAUREN - HAIRSTYLIST/MARKETER Stephan, travels internationally sharing his signature balance of high fashion and a concise standard of education. With many years of working on national industry events, Lauren has earned a coveted spot as an Underground Artist of The Beauty Underground. His passion for Education and fashion has given him an edge behind the chair. He is obsessive about reinvention with a firm grasp of classic technique. Stephan is an award winning hairstylist with multiple nominations from the Southwest Hairstyling Awards.
KHIEMBER LUANGPHITHACK - DESIGNER/MANUS SUPPLY OWNER & HEAD DESIGNER Khiember, is the Founder and Head Designer of Manus Supply, an eco-lifestyle, fashion and apparel collective home based in Denver, Colorado, creating careers in the apparel and manufacturing sector of Colorado and developing locally made products/services with fair ethics. Khiember is currently pursuing her education at The Fashion Institute of Technology with an emphasis in CAD Fashion Design and Patternmaking from 2018 to 2020 living part-time in NYC, alongside facilitating her fashion and apparel career pursuit in Denver.

PAUL TAM BU RE LLO - OWNER OF GENERATOR REAL ESTATE Paul Tamburello’s name has become synonymous with good design and transformative, value driven development in city neighborhoods craving improvement. A Denver native, Paul knows the city. Raised in Congress Park and a longtime resident of Highland, Paul’s expertise ranges from infill adaptive reuse, prioritizing the preservation of our aging inventory of commercial buildings in Denver, to consulting on design and development for infill residential development. Known for Little Man Ice Cream, Linger and Root down – the desire to give back is ingrained in Paul, and for every scoop of ice cream sold, the organization also gives away a scoop of rice or beans to the hungry. Since Little Man opened, they’ve given away over 76 tons!
CHARLI E PRICE - HAIRSTYLIST/CO-FOUNDER OF DENVER FASHION WEEK Charlie is an award winning hairstylist who travels the world entertaining and inspiring other hairstylists. His career has been wide and varied in scope. He has seen his photo work published globally and collaborated with many product manufacturers such as Aveda, Sassoon and Revlon Professional. He has created runway looks as lead hairstylist at NY Fashion Week for designers such as Jason Wu, Jeremy Scott and Cynthia Rowley - and even made a memorable appearance on Shear Genius the Bravo TV series about hairdressers which aired in 22 countries.
2019 TE C H N I C A L JUDGES EI LEEN O’ BR IE N - TECHNICAL JUDGE Eileen has over twenty years of professional experience in directing membership programs, film festivals, as well as work in production on independent and studio films, network and cable television programs. She has also written, directed and produced marketing videos, television pilots and programs, live events, theater productions and consulted on independent film marketing and distribution. She has also directed, programmed, managed, coordinated and consulted on major film festivals including Cannes, Sundance, Savannah and Denver International. She is currently a membership consultant, festival programmer, moderator and guest speaker/interviewer.
M ERHI A W I ESE - MEOW WOLF/ COMMUNITY OUTREACH, ARTIST Merhia is an artist, creative, mother, Denver native and Community Outreach Coordinator and Marketing Associate for Meow Wolf Denver - an arts organization which creates immersive experiences, transporting audiences of all ages into fantastic realms of story and exploration. She is a positive force in the community, connecting people in need with others who can help, either personally or professionally. She has been working with artists for the last 20 years on making their presence known and also advocating for them to get paid fairly for their art. Merhia supports her community by hosting and attending a multitude of local events and helps to promote local creatives on social media.
2019 E M C E E S YA GI RL CEDES & DJ S IMONE S AY S San Diego native, Mercedes Howard better known as Denver KS 107.5‘s YaGirl Cedes, began her career as an intern doing traffic reports. Daughter of radio veteran, Tayari Howard, being on the radio came naturally to her and she soon rose through the ranks and landed her own show in Denver on KS1075. After almost 6 years at KS1075, YaGirlCedes now enjoys being involved in and hosting a variety of Denver community events and taking care of her newborn baby. After receiving her first set of turntables at the age of 12, DJ Simone Says has amassed an impressive resume of corporate clients (including Nordstrom, H&M, Adidas, United Airlines, Sephora), and diversified her skills as a selector thru direct DJ support for various shows (including Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Willow Smith, The Internet, and more.) These big names and high format event services are what brought DJ Simone Says to the forefront of independent deejays circles all over the country.
