A Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse that has additional education and training in diagnosing and treating illnesses in specialty areas such as family, geriatric, neonate, or pediatrics. Nurse Practitioners prescribe medication, which usually RN's cannot do, as well as treat illnesses and administer physical exams. Nurse practitioners have a master's degree or doctorate in nursing and board certification in their specialty. A pediatric NP has higher education, skills, and training in caring for infants, children, and teens than an RN. As licensed nurse practitioners, NPs follow the policy and regulations of the Nurse Practice Act of the state in which they work. After working as RN, I decided that I wanted to advance in my practice in professional responsibility, autonomy, and flexibility. I want to put a positive influence on the lives of my patients and their families and become NP. With a goal to engage in advanced practice nursing, I hope to pursue people more, educating them to know how to take care of their health in the way they feel most comfortable. To me, nursing is a gift of giving, loving, and caring, and the rewards in nursing are limitless. Accomplishing my goal of growing to be a Nurse Practitioner will enable me to strengthen my current nursing knowledge base, improve my relationship with my patients and their families, and participate in a noble profession. Becoming a Nurse Practitioner combines the nursing's compassion, knowledge and skills with the autonomy to practice, diagnose, and treat patients holistically. The career I am interested in studying for is a Nurse Practitioner. As I have learned more in the healthcare field I have become more interested in becoming a Nurse Practitioner. A Nurse Practitioner is a more advanced Registered Nurse and they are trained to provide the diagnosis of acute illnesses and chronic illnesses. Before you become a Nurse Practitioner, you should become a Registered Nurse. This requires you to get a bachelor's of science degree. That wil l take about four years to complete. To become a Nurse Practitioner you have to have at least a master's of science degree. That will take an additional two years. There are many colleges you can attend to get the degree to become a Nurse Practitioner. Some of those colleges are: Medical University of South Carolina, University of South Carolina–Beaufort, and South University. They will also have to go to supervised clinicals in a healthcare facility to see how they react in handling critical and noncritical situations. In the United States there are over 1,000 job openings. Of those openings about 31 of them are from Georgia. The job requirements are being able to diagnosis acute illnesses and treat them as well. You will have to write out prescriptions and be able to know their dosage and their frequency. You will have to order diagnosis test and conduct them. These test include x–rays and EKGs. You will need to communicate well with others and talk to the patient about their health. You will need to make treatment plans for them and recommendations. You will have to record the patient's medical history and examine them to help you identify their past illnesses.
