he Olifants News found an illegal dumping site near the Olifantsfontein and South View corner. The site is a threat to residents and businesses in the area.

The litter includes animal carcases and sharp items. With the help of the department of Environmental Affairs the Olifants team compiled the following quick facts.

Stephina Dolo (48) from Tswelopele says she has been farming here for the past four years. She also grows maize for her children so that they don’t go hungry. She stays with her four children and her husband who is employed.

“Municipality hasn’t given us any problems so far,” says Stephina.

“However, when a property owner comes and stops us, we have to find another place. After all he has bought the land and we have no choice but to move somewhere else.”

She arrived in Alexandra around 1982, and finding a job proved to be a challenge for her.

“If there is someone with a tractor who can help us, we will appreciate that.”

Another person farming the land is Margaret Sithole from Giyani. She now lives in Duduza. She says farming has helped to feed her family: “I started farming in 2010. I grow morogo for my children. Sometimes we take maize meal to the factory and exchange it for maize meal.

Santa comes to Phumulani Mall

s Christmas is fast approaching parents will be searching for malls where their children can take photos with Santa.

Parents in Tembisa and surrounding areas are spared this stress. They invited to bring their little ones to come take photos with Santa in Phumulani Mall. This will happen every day from 9 am to 5 pm. It started on the 11th until the 24th of December 2019, by the Shoprite court.

Phumulani Mall is situated in Tembisa, in the East Rand, adjacent to

Olifantsfontein Road – conveniently located within walking distance of people who reside in the area.

“We want shoppers to create memories they can keep with them.

Remember Phumulani is one of the malls that has been looked down upon because it is located next to a squatter camp,” says Portia, Khumbulani Mall’s Marketing Manager.

atlego Pearl Makgatso was last seen on the 29th November 2019. She left the house at 8.00 pm with an intention of handing over money to someone. Her family started to panic when hours passed without Katlego returning.

She was wearing Adidas slippers, blue jeans and she had her weave on, her sister Portia said.

"She used to live at her boyfriend's house with her children who are 3 and 1 years old. It's painful when her older child asks us, when is Mama coming back?"

Katlego was reported missing to the police on the 2nd of December.

vangeli Professor Nkosi is the founder of two companies, Kasi Lam Fastfood and Mvangeli’s Construction.

He shared his journey to entrepreneurship with this publication.

“I was born in Limpopo and raised here in Clayville. Then we moved from section to section. I wanted to start a business because I realised that people are losing jobs and graduates can’t find jobs. The first business I started was a construction company,” recalls Nkosi.

Nkosi started cleaning people’s yards and every time someone needed a person who can clean a yard Nkosi availed himself, and

ended up not only cleaning yards in Clayville, but cars as well.

“Then one day a man who I used to help to do construction works suggested: why don’t you start your own construction business?” That was a turning point in Nkosi’s life.

As he didn’t have resources he had to start with whatever he had, he printed business cards and distributed them to market his construction business.
