SAPS Crime Alert for Oakmore Staff Writer

akmore - High unemployment in South Africa is one of the major factors leading to an increase in crime rate. The SAPS in Olifantsfontein have recently released a statement alerting residents of crimes that are happening in Oakmore.

Community members are advised to stop walking alone in the late hours because they might be victims of armed robbery and rape. The SAPS says motorists are advised not to park at the old Pretoria road next to Oakmore, rather they park at the nearest garage to avid being victims of crime. According to Constable Mokete Serakwana Communication Officer Olifantsfontein SAPS Oakmore has become a crime hotspot for criminals, many crime cases have been reported that happened in that area so it is best to avoid it especially at night.“We are urging the community members to take our crime alerts into consideration to avoid being victims of crime,” said Constable Serakwana.

ormer Orlando Pirates player Katleho Loke hosted a tournament in Clayville. Loke’s idea to launch a tournament in Clayville came after noticing that most young people don’t have anything to do. Most youths in the area are either loitering the streets or hanging around street corners.

Loke decided to take them out of the street, as he strongly believed that is a community’s duty. “Support them, don’t give up on them, and they are our children; they need our guidance,” he said.

She decided to buy me nails equipment and material to enable me to start freestyling and trying new ideas, as the time went by I started getting bookings from family, friends and more clients started coming and

requesting my services,” Zanele told The Olifants News.

“We are very proud of our work as we make people feel good about themselves and we restore their confidence because when you look good you feel good. The main aim and objective of our business are to make all women see their beauty in different ways and at the most affordable prices,” says Zanele.

So far Zanele uses Youtube to learn more techniques and styles. She says if it wasn’t for lack of finances, she would love to go to school to get indepth knowledge about her business.

“I learned a lot although it was hard at times. I learned to stay positive and best with the little I have. God has always been there during the dark days and all challenges. I am what I am today because of my passion and talent,” she says.

Zanele’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to always be positive and avoid negative vibes from people who never do anything for themselves.

he City Of Ekurhuleni Municipality has applauded health care workers for vaccinating 19 000 people in one weekend. The Covid-19 vaccines were part of the Vooma vaccination weekend campaign, which started on Friday, 12 November and ended on Sunday, 14 November.

Head of the City’s Health and Social Development Department Dr Gilbert Motlatla said: “While efforts are in place to help increase the vaccine uptake, none of this would be possible without the dedicated team of health professionals who have been steadfast in fighting this global pandemic.”

“We thank all our professional nurses and health care personnel for making all the government’s efforts a success,” he continued.

The Health Department’s breakdown revealed that over the past

weekend a total of 11 340 doses administered were first doses and 7 676 were doses given to residents coming for their second inoculation.

The aim of the Vooma vaccination weekend campaign follows a call by President Cyril Ramaphosa to all sectors to support the country’s Covid-19 vaccine programme.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, continues to provide laboratory-based surveillance to inform the public health response towards Covid-19 in South Africa.

As of Thursday, there were 585 new Covid-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 927 499.

This increase represents a 1.7% positivity rate.

CASE of burglary has been opened at the Ivory Park SAPS after a local primary school was broken into and valuable property stolen. A security guard on duty at the Sedilaka Primary School, Kaalfontein, on Thursday night saw a group of five people coming into the school premises. Since he was by himself, the lone guard sneaked out to summon for help. By the time he and the assistance came back, the intruders had already left.

On further inspection, it was discovered that property valued at more than fifty-one thousand rands has been taken. The property taken includes a server, two laptops, two desktops, and a television.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has condemned this, branding it an act of selfishness and pure cruelty by the intruders concerned.

Bophelong celebrates 5 years of fitness

ophelong Fitness Club (BFC) celebrated five years of existence in style on Saturday, November 13 at Hospital View, Thembisa. Over the years, the club has grown from strength to strength and has shown improvements every year. The numbers have been increasing dramatically, with more young and older people joining.

The club focuses on keeping senior citizens with various health conditions healthy. Most of them have one or two positive stories to tell since joining the club. On Saturday, the club celebrated its fifth birthday, and

the atmosphere was different. Entertainment, food, and life-changing experiences were all shared on and off the stage.

Lina Ramoroka said When you get to a certain age, you have to take extra care of yourself and exercise. ” I am living proof that exercise does help.

I used to trouble my grandchildren every time, there are certain things that I wouldn’t do, and I can walk, dance, and come to Bophelong and exercise with the ladies,” said Ramoroka.

“One time on my regular checkups, I was asked by the nurse if I do exercise or not; I replied to the nurse and said I walk, and she said walking is not exercise,” said Mercy

Gutuxa, BFC member. “Then the nurse referred me to Bophelong; funny enough, it took me a month to decide to get here, but I finally came, and I was welcomed with warm hands, and I was shown so much love. Today I have lost 8 kg,” Gutuxa said.

Amongst the speakers who shared their stories was Hluphi Sithole, who said she had a leg problem and went to different consultations, but there was no solution.“At the hospital, they discovered that I had arthritis in the spinal cord. My leg was always painful day and night. My friend invited me to Bophelong; since I got here, I am now able to dance and jump around; my family used to visit me at home now I am the one who visits them, and they get surprised, I share with them that exercising helped m,”
