In his speech, the PM also shared how the country will address the ongoing changes in industries and jobs over the coming years. The industries of today are being disrupted by new business models, including the likes of online retailers Taobao and Amazon, home-share booking website Airbnb, and private-car hire services Uber and Grab. But Mr Lee felt it was not possible to stop this phenomenon. Neither should anyone try to, at the risk of hurting themselves in the long run. He explained that such newer and popular business models are convenient and give consumers and commuters more options and better deals. Instead, the government will ensure that newer entrants compete on fair terms with the current players. Championing local content Mr Chee Hong Tat thoroughly enjoyed watching Wild City, a documentary on the hidden VHKCKHED FDLR HM 2HMF@ONQD R GD ƦHBJR SGQNTFG Toggle.sg website on his iPad, he is on the constant look out for more good local programmes. The Minister of State for Communications and Information is convinced that Singapore is able to produce original high-quality local content which would not only appeal to locals, but even to overseas audiences. “Local content is where we have a competitive advantage,” said Mr Chee, who usually watches 35 NM SGD LNUD UH@ 3NFFKD RF ř6D B@MŗS ƥFGS VHSG big production companies overseas in terms of budget and scale, but what we can do better is to tell the Singapore story using our own narrative from our own perspective.” He was discussing how he would attract viewers who are increasingly turning away from

and we need to give them support, including funding, but more importantly, providing the opportunities and platforms for them to do this work.” The production of more “Singapore stories” will also strengthen Singapore’s cultural identity. “It will give us that ballast in a fast-changing world. The better we understand ourselves, the stronger we associate with our identity,” he said.

A father of four Four children is quite a lot… We both love children! Our son is 16 and our three daughters are aged 5, 10 and 13. I have very little personal time these days, but I cannot neglect my family as their support is crucial to my being able to do this job in the long-run. My wife, who used to be a teacher before she left work to look after the kids, initially said ‘No’ and took more than six months before she eventually agreed to my entering politics.

What do you do with your children? When I used to have more time, we liked to go out together as a family and also hang out at Bishan Park. In fact, one of the reasons why I bought my condominium is because it is right next to the park and we wanted to be near it. We also played board games like Cluedo and Monopoly, and I’d read English and Chinese books to them. What is your approach to fathering? ( @L CDƥMHSDKX MNS @ 3HFDQ C@Cʖ ( DMBNTQ@FD
