LAMMA’S SRI LANKAN HIDDEN GEM
Despite The Waterfront's unassuming location - tucked away just off the Main Street intersection - visitors who take the few steps down the path on the right are treated to some of Lamma's most spectacular dining views, a sweeping 180° vista of the Yung Shue Wan bay. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, The Waterfront's diverse menu offers Western favourites including pastas,
burgers and fish & chips, alongside their signature Sri Lankan cuisine. True to her roots, owner and chef Ira Narasinghe cooks her authentic Sri Lankan curries from scratch, using fresh curry leaves from Lamma and a secret blend of herbs and spices passed down from her mother. Ira’s recipes focus firmly on flavour, though none of them use ghee, paneer or butter, making them quite distinct

The Spicy Island that resides on Lamma today was opened in 2018 by Deepak Singh and his wife Anju, a tribute to Deepak’s father Amar, who opened the original restaurant of the same name way back in 2001. 20 years on, Spicy Island remains an integral part of the island landscape, with their tried and tested Indian recipes continuing to delight; Chef Deepak’s Brandy Chicken (boneless chicken cooked in Indian spices, with a dash of brandy) or Delhi
Murg Angara (sizzling BBQ boneless chicken in Chef’s special spices) come highly recommended, as do customer favourites Chicken Makhani and Saag Paneer.

Lamma’s greenery, open spaces and relaxed atmosphere have long been considered a haven for pet owners. The Island Market chats to someone very well acquainted with Lamma’s pet community, local pet store owner Kathy. 1. What made you decide to open Pets Village on Lamma island and what do you love most about your job? I’ve always had a passion for animals and Lamma’s natural surroundings make it the perfect place to keep pets in HK. I love being integrated in the community and meeting all of our island’s companions! 2. What sort of products do you stock in Pets Village? All sorts! We keep a wide range of pet foods, snacks, toys and essentials, with a firm focus on quality; we thoroughly research all our products and deal only with trusted suppliers, so you know your pets are in safe hands! 3. Any advice you would give to pet owners in Hong Kong? Healthy pets are happy pets! Just like ourselves, animals need a nutritrious and balanced diet to keep them fit and active. By ensuring you’re feeding your pets the right way, you’ll not only keep them healthy, but you’ll also avoid too many of those hefty vet’s bills! 4. What are some of the weird and wonderful pets you’ve come across as a pet shop owner on Lamma? Oh there have been many! Snakes, iguanas, spiders, parrots, even rats! Each to their own, though I’m happiest with my dog Ball Ball (pictured, left!), who just turned the grand old age of 20 in February!
