Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur
THE SHARDS
Dispersed and Fragmented
Once a tightly-knit community, Brickfield now finds itself dispersed and fragmented following the removal of its hundred quarters. The palpable sense of unity that once defined this neighborhood has dissipated, leaving a void in interpersonal connections. This transformation has manifested in the current state of Brickfield , where the communal bonds that once thrived have given way to disconnected segments. Recognizing the significance of restoring the community spirit that defined Brickfield's past, this project aims to reunite the disparate parts of the community, mending the fragmented puzzle that now characterizes the area. The vision is to not only resurrect the bygone unity but also foster integration among the residents. By addressing the fractures in the community, the project aspires to cultivate a shared sense of belonging and pave the way for collective growth as Brickfield continues its development journey into the foreseeable future.

HELIX OF RENAISANCE
Revitalize, Revive, Bringing Back Significant
Johor Bahru, a rapidly developing city located next to Singapore, is a melting pot where people of diverse cultures, backgrounds, races, and religions coexist harmoniously. Despite its unique character, Johor Bahru often finds itself overshadowed by the success of its neighboring country, Singapore. Many people merely pass through the city on their way to Singapore, and it is sometimes labeled as "boring" due to a perceived lack of attractions. As a result, locals often prefer visiting the suburban areas instead.
This project aims to revitalize Johor Bahru by highlighting its cultural richness, historical significance, and promoting local artists and attractions. The goal is to encourage people to spend more time in the city and appreciate all it has to offer. By celebrating Johor Bahru's unique identity and fostering a vibrant local scene, we hope to make the project a destination in its own right.

To capitalize on this potential, the project proposes the creation of a performing arts center featuring an amphitheater. This venue would provide a platform for traditional dance performances, enabling people from different racial backgrounds to learn and experience each other's cultural dances. The center would also include spaces for artists to showcase their work, engage with other artists, and share ideas. Additionally, dedicated areas would be available for street musicians to perform, whether in enclosed or open settings, allowing them to express their talents freely.

Lower Ground Floor Plan
The lower ground floor, which directly faces Jalan Wong Ah Fook, serves as the main entrance from the front of the building. This area is mostly open and permeable to visitors who walk past the building. The two main spaces here include the market spaces at the front of the plan, where stalls sell various items, and an amphitheater at the center of the building, which hosts performances and events. These areas are primarily open, designed to exhibit and engage with visitors passing by.

Upper Ground Floor Plan
The upper ground floor faces Jalan Trus, where more locals and office workers tend to hang out. Because of this, a café is placed facing Jalan Trus, providing a spot for locals to relax and eat during their break time or after work. Additionally, the dance room is located at the front right of the building, with its fully glass walls, allowing passersby to watch the dancers as they walk along.
The drop-off area is also situated on this floor, along the side of the building facing Jalan Trus, to avoid the heavy traffic that often occurs on Jalan Wong Ah Fook.
Additionally, pocket spaces are strategically placed throughout the floor, providing visitors with spots to sit, relax, or engage in their own activities.

Level 1 Plan
In the level one floor we first have the coffee booth which intentionally there for the people who use the library to have a place to grab a coffee when they are going to the library to either study or work there.
Moreover, the library, which takes up a large space on this level, serves as a place for visitors to study the history of Johor Bahru, as well as a space for users to get their work done or even to chill and relax.
The link bridge is located here because the City Square Mall doesn't have a library, so I thought it would be nice to provide a connection to my building, allowing users who want to access the library to easily come over and use it.

It is situated on the same floor as the theater, ensuring that guests can easily visit it after watching a performance.
