This is Clay’s Grandmama.

On Sunday, Clay goes to visit his Aunt Diamanté. She is very elegant and fancy. He has to mind his P’s and Q’s there.

At bedtime, Clay likes to hear stories about his adventurous grandfather, Macaroni, who got stuck in a hat.

But recently, Clay had been feeling glum. ”Whats the matter?” asked his grandmama. “ You look a bit squished out of shape.”

“Nothing” muttered Clay

“Its just that… all my friends are so much better than me, I’m useless.

Take Glitter, she is so lucky, she gets to be put in confetti, she shines. I never get to be put in confetti, I never shine.”

“Yes, Glitter is pretty lively that way, isn’t she?” said Grandmama.

“And Glue, she is so lucky, she gets used practically everywhere! I bet she never gets squished around like i do!”

“Glue does get out and make herself useful, doesn’t she?“ said grandmama.

“And what about Ms Shell? She gets to travel around the world, she gets to be used in stuff like mosaics. Nobody thinks I’m International, I NEVER get to be used in mosaics!”

Meanwhile if only Clay knew what his friends were saying about him at that very moment.

“Clay is so lucky” said Glitter. It can turns into anything he wants, while I’m just a tiny little spot on my own.”

“Clay is so lucky” said Glue. “He’s so colorful while I’m just plain old white.”
“Clay is so lucky” said Ms Shell. “He gets his own little box to stay in, but who knows where I’ll end up? On a sandy beach, or the middle of the ocean?!”

That night, after bedtime stories, Clay’s grandmama tucked him in and said, “I wonder if you realize how lucky you are Clay.”

“People can play with you, they cannot play with other craft materials” said Grandmama.
“You get a massage every-time you are out of the box!” Exclaimed Grandmama.
“You last forever! You are Immortal! No other thing is like you. You really are unique and wonderful!”
Clay hadn’t thought of it that way. He lay awake in bed, his mind racing… He felt so alive!
Now there was only one thing left to do.

“ I cant sleep”

“Come in, snuggle” said grandmama
And so he did.
