With the end of a half term, Exit Points for learning have now taken place across most year groups. Exit Points are the culmination of a learning focus. During Exit Points, our students present their knowledge, skills and understanding to their parents and wider adult audience.

Thank you to all members of our school community who engage so willingly in the learning process by attending events such as Exit Points. These home-school connections make for more lasting and meaningful student learning experiences.

2021/2022 School Year Transitions and Information For students who will remain at Panaga School next academic year, where a significant change in curriculum and/or location is due, a transition programme will be in place. Where applicable, a parent information session will be provided. Information for parents will be sent out via email, with dates in our school calendar. In addition, whole school parent information sessions will be provided on Thursday 1st July (remote) and Friday 2nd July (face to face) to offer details of our student and staffing forecast for the new academic year. More information will be offered at school’s return next half term.

Class Photos Nanyangs photographers will take class photos next half term. Parents will be advised of class photo dates as soon as these are confirmed, along with information about how to purchase copies Panaga School 2020/2021 Yearbook Our fantastic Chief Editor, Mr Damian, is busy working with several members of our school community to generate this year’s much anticipated Yearbook. Pre-purchase information will be advertised in Term 3.2., with Yearbooks due to go on sale at $16 each, prior to the end of the school year.

Departing Students Thank you for keeping school leaders up to date with any information about family departures. Doing so assists us to support your child’s transition as well as preparations for the new academic year.

Nursery Exit Point The World Around Us The children in Nursery created an interactive 3D map of Panaga.

With support from parents, children added their house to the map and then, using their knowledge of their world, considered what else they might see in their local environment.

We had creative additions of crocodiles, monkeys, bridges, swamps, hornbills and pets, to name a few.

Our new IEYC unit, ‘Once Upon a Time’ got off to an exciting start. The children have demonstrated fantastic cooperation and communication as they worked together to create story maps and act out their stories.

This week, we have been learning and inventing our own version of the Gingerbread Man. The children have been using their phonics skills to write their own stories. We have also been excited to explore the new storytelling areas and to find a daily postcard from the Gingerbread Man, following clues to find where he’s been hiding and writing postcards back.

Children in P2 used their knowledge, skills and understanding of Celebrations to create their own celebration. Celebrations included a title, body art, food and table decorations. Pride shone on the children’s faces and fun time was had by all.

P5 Trip to Ecoponies

P5 went on a trip to Ecoponies in Tutong this week.

Whilst there, the children were able to build on their knowledge of rainforest plants and fauna as well as improve their cooking skills. The food was delicious!

We were also shocked by the beautiful durian flowers that were in bloom. These flowers smelt beautiful as well which came as a bit of shock given the fruit’s smelly reputation.

We are learning about seed dispersal and plants in our local area. On our learning walk, we learned that seeds come in many different shapes and we saw lots of evidence of seed dispersal, including a squirrel collecting seeds. We also learned how plants can help with keeping the soil rooted. We had lots of new KNOWLEDGE on this walk and also some International Learning.

Melilas News ‘Seven Worlds, One Planet’

Although Miss Mandy, Mr Simon and Miss Chris are very passionate in educating the Melilas students about the wonders of the planet in Humanities and Science, it can’t compare to someone who made the planet her trade.

This week, we invited Jo Stead to share her passion for wildlife and filmmaking with us. Jo is a marine biologist and a wildlife filmmaker who worked on various projects such as the Seven Worlds, One Planet series on the BBC. Amongst other episodes, Jo was part of the BBC’s Borneo episode and spent much of her time travelling to Borneo since 2005.

The M1 and M2 students learned about the joys and challenges of wildlife filmmaking. They were also taught about the skillset one should develop to become a scientist/researcher/ filmmaker. Above all, the students were shown what impact human behaviour has on our planet and its inhabitants.

Our Panaga swimmers went up to ISB Bandar for a BJSL swimming event. After a long gap in between contests, we were all very excited to be participating with ISB Bandar, JIS, Hornbill and ISB KB.

Thank you so much to our swim coaches, Mr Gianfranco and Mr Aaron, teachers, Mr Nathan, Miss Danni and Miss Melissa, and parents for your support and dedication.

In a total of over 80 events, including relay races and individual races, our swimmers swam their best throughout the morning.

Resilience was in abundance.

Everyone was rooting for each other as a part of the Panaga team, showing great school spirit.

Panaga School Weekly, Issue One Hundred, 28th May 2021

It was great to see so many of our students expressing their ‘Wanderlust’ during this week’s Panaga Walkathon, one of the many orange traditions.

For four consecutive nights, students of Panaga School and children from the broader Panaga Community (and their ’wanderlustige’ accompanying adult), walked 2km or 5km around the Panaga Camp.

The children that finished their chosen distance on each of the four nights successfully were rewarded on Thursday night with a medal, a certificate and an ice cream.

Well done to all of our young, tough hikers for showing GREAT resilience!

A BIG thanks to the NVB, the committee: Amanda, Michael, Wynand and Mr Menno and all of the volunteers for organising such a great event.
