With the return of Pre-Nursery and Nursery to face to face learning, you will see in this week’s edition a growing presence of learning that reflects school’s reopening. We acknowledge and thank all of our committed students, parents and staff who have created a safe and successful return to school for the students that this is available to.

We also recognise the outstanding efforts of our students, parents and staff who continue to navigate remote learning. We are in awe of the Personal Qualities exhibited by our school community who continue to adapt and keep learning relevant.

This is also reflected by the sensational remote learning celebrations in this week’s edition of PSB. Thank you to our contributors, as you help connect and inspire us all.

Chinese New Year We hope that Chinese New Year is proving a wonderful time for all who celebrate this event.

We would like to extend our thanks to Panaga School’s Chinese community who have contributed to this week’s school assemblies with the creation of a captivating video with our students as stars, wishing everybody a Happy Chinese New Year and Happy Tiger Year.

Half term break Next week, school will be closed for half term break. We wish everybody a safe and happy rest from school.

School (in line with current online and face to face arrangements) will return on Monday 14th February.

Special Edition Welcome to Pre-Nursery Pre-Nursery were delighted to welcome students this week and introduce them to the environment and a range of fun learning experiences that we have to offer.

It was lovely to see the children getting creative at the art area, zooming around on the bikes, challenging themselves with the large construction bricks and on balance bridges and steppingstones.

They showed their Enquiry skills as they investigated the toys, puzzles and role play areas.

Welcome back to Nursery!

It has been wonderful to welcome the Nursery children back to school. No tears, just lots of happy, smiling children who were eager to get settled into their new learning environment. The adults were very happy too!

P6 have been learning about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) as a part of our International learning. We learned all about the 17 goals, and for our Exit Point, we are going to think about one action that we can take to work towards these goals.

On Monday 31st January, we were very fortunate to have Miss Ruth join to share her work with reducing the amount of food that gets put into landfill. Her project is called, 'The Lost Food Project'. We were shocked to learn about the amount of good food that gets thrown away. This project is helping to achieve many of the UNSDGs. Can you figure out which ones?

Did you know that globally 800 million people struggle with hunger every day?

Did you know that food production is responsible for 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions (e.g. CO2) and 75% of annual deforestation?

Special Edition For our Exit Point, we had to pledge to take action to achieve the Global Goals. This is also a part of our International learning where we are taking action to make positive changes in the world. Gijs has already completed his actions for his pledge. Congratulations Gijs, this is really impressive!

Special Edition ...IS BACK AT PANAGA CLUB LIBRARY!

Although we might not be able to physically travel to other countries at the moment, our imagination can take us anywhere. This year, the Panaga Club Library team have put together a reading challenge that will let you travel to all seven continents of the world.

The challenge restarted on Monday 24th January 2022 and will end on Monday 14th February. We will pick up where we left off. If there are children who missed the start of the reading challenge, they can still join in by collecting a passport from the library desk and catching up on the continents we have visited so far: Asia, Australia, Antarctica and South America.

Every Monday, we will announce the continent for you to explore that week.

This will be announced on the library’s Facebook page, as well as in the library itself: there will be a world map display that will show you the continent to look for.

Once you know where you are travelling to, you need to find a book relating to any country in that continent. This could be a reference book, such as a recipe book, arts and crafts manual, or a picture book of animals from that area; or it could be a fiction book, with a story from that continent or written by an author from that area.

When you have chosen your book, fill in the passport page stating what continent you went to, what the book title was and what you found out. When you return the book back to the library, bring your passport with you and you can collect a passport stamp from the desk staff to put in your passport.

Once you have visited all seven continents, you will get a certificate at the end of the challenge.

Special Edition Learning Target: To be able to use a range of sources to identify positive and negative changes for Japan in the 1920s.

Success Criteria: •K: To know Japan was embracing of Western changes in the 1920s.

•S: To be able to extract information from a range of sources – learning walk.

•U: Understand there were benefits and problems from these changes within Japan.

In History, M2 were taking the opportunity to get away from their computers and go on a socially distanced learning walk to gather information from a range of sources. They used a range of text, photos, tables and graphs placed around the Melilas area to gather information about different aspects of life in Japan during 1920’s – focusing on the positive and negative impacts of change. We rotated around different information areas and sections every few minutes to ensure we remained safely socially distanced whilst accessing all information. For the couple of our members who are still online this was not a problem – they were buddied up with a partner who took them on the learning walk (via their laptop) sharing information and taking the opportunity to discuss their understanding. Fabulous work, M2! As always, they were learning focused and showing great Cooperation, Communication and Enquiry Personal Qualities. - Miss Mandy
