Thank you to every member of the Panaga School Community for assisting to create such a safe and smooth start to the school year. Meet the Teacher events were very well attended and we thank parents for joining together in support of your child/ren’s learning journey. Various engagements will take place throughout the school year in support of parents to remain engaged in student learning.

Staff Announcement - School Business Service Lead It is with pleasure that I inform everybody of Cyla Ahmad’s successful appointment to the role of School Business Service (+673) 3375728/3372139 Lead, effective Monday 16th September 2019. Cyla (pictured) (Teraja/Melilas), has worked in the capacity of Learning Support Assistant with (+673) 3372694 Panaga School for the past 13 years. During this time, Cyla (Mendaram/Rampayoh) completed a Bachelor of Management, through Anglia Ruskin University, UK, in October 2018. Through these studies, Cyla focused her dissertation on school leadership and management. Cyla also Principal: holds a Diploma in Primary Education, University of Brunei Darussalam, 2002.

Cindy Bin Tahal Cyla will enter the newly created role of School Business Service Lead, bringing (+673) 3372355/8777028 cindybintahal@panagaschool.com together her capacity of both teaching and learning, as well as business management. Please join me in congratulating Cyla on her new appointment.

Parent Representatives Thank you to parents who have come forward (or have been gently pushed forward) to accept the position of Parent Representative for this academic year. Parent Representatives have an important job of assisting with school communications, as well as acting as a representative parent consultation group for input into school operations and strategic planning. Parent Representatives will meet together on Friday 13th September at 8.00am in the Rampayoh Meeting Room. Please see your child/ren’s class teacher if you are interested in being a Parent Representative.

International Primary Curriculum (IPC) Throughout Meet the Teacher events, Miss Maura and Miss Miriam Admin Support, introduced themselves as our IPC Lead Teachers. IPC goes beyond being a Rampayoh/Mendaram: curriculum, which teaches children all subjects in an independent, yet Zurimah Bte Jumat interdependent manner. It is also an overarching philosophy of teaching and z.jumat@shell.com learning. Panaga School was last accredited at Mastering Level in IPC in 2012.

Since this time, independent education consultants have conducted learning Admin Support, Teraja: reviews in addition to parent, staff and student surveys and external, Hasmah Bte Hj Salleh independent, international student assessment programmes such as International School Assessments (ISAs) to determine that Panaga School is a hasmah.salleh@shell.com ‘good’ school. Panaga School is now on a journey towards reaccreditation.

Panaga School Weekly editor: This journey will include the whole school community as we begin aligning our definition of learning and our interpretation of what International Learning Damian Brady damianbrady@panagaschool.com and International Mindedness mean for us all. The next 2 editions of Panaga School Weekly will request community input into these topics, in readiness for education consultant visits later this half term, that aim to draw together Panaga School’s shared vision.

Updates from the Head Teacher’s Desk Another busy week within Panaga School comes to an end and the children have had an incredible learning experience.

This week, P3 had an exciting trip to Fratini’s to make their very own pizzas. From all accounts, they were delicious and fun to make.

Thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend this week’s Meet the Teacher evening. The teacher-parent relationship is a vital part of your children’s learning and we encourage you to build that relationship throughout the year. We are so fortunate within the school to have such a dedicated and enthusiastic staff.

We are all very much looking forward to our upcoming Book Week, and in particular, our Dress Up Day on Monday. Please do enjoy the week with your children as they are given opportunities to develop their own reading and to learn from an experienced author.

During our Meet the Teacher events, the importance of reading with your child was emphasised. For all children, the opportunity to read daily is key to their development and helps stimulate their imagination and curiosity.

As children grow, it is so important that we maintain an enthusiasm for reading with them and I encourage all of you to take the time to not only listen to your child read, but to read with them and to them.

Adopt-a-Beach and ASAs - Information and sign up forms After School Activities for Term 1 commence on Thursday 19th September and will conclude on Thursday 28th November.

Students will be assigned to their chosen activity on a first come, first served basis. It is important that you select 3 activities that your child would like to participate in, as first choices cannot be guaranteed. Forms should be completed online no later than Friday 13th September for your child to participate in the first ASA of Term 1 on Thursday, 19th September.

As detailed through parent consultation, students as part of After School Activities (ASAs) will again participate in The Last Straw's Adopt-a-Beach, taking responsibility for cleaning the stretch of beach in front of House Number 49 and Rampayoh School. Each ASA group will attend to the beach on a roster in Term 1, 2019/2020.

Teachers: Miss Gina and Miss Laura, will lead all safety briefings and the weekly attendance at the beach, with ASA staff also assisting with supervision. The weather and tide will determine if and how the clean up will be performed, in line with risk assessments conducted. Students will be provided with gloves and all required equipment. Students will be at their usual ASA locations for pick up on the days that they participate in their Adopt-a-Beach session.

Dear Parent/Guardian, We are thrilled to tell you that on 11th and 12th September, author, poet and storyteller Clive PiG will be coming to school to inspire the children about reading, writing and books, and to help develop their skills and enthusiasm.

Books will be available for purchase on the day and have been signed and personalised for the children! Books will be sold on Teraja between 2.20pm-3.00pm.

Children should always be encouraged to read more books, so please send in payments on the day. See below for prices and titles.

CLIVE PIG Clive PiG is a storyteller, songsta, performance poet. Several times a day, he stares out of the window and jots down a few words in his notebook and later taps a lot more into his electronic gizmo. He likes nothing better than to take his words off the page and put them on the stage.

Clive PiG's unique storytelling style is theatrical and interactive, combining music and song, rhythm and rhyme to enchant audiences of all ages.

Welcome to Pre-Nursery!

How exciting to be starting Panaga School!

In Pre-Nursery, we have now welcomed almost all of the children. We have been having fun exploring the exciting environments inside and outside and learning all about our new friends.

Our Nursery pupils are already feeling the benefits of our new Mendaram Sensory Room. The room is set up to be a calming environment, in which pupils can use sensory activities to self-regulate. It is equipped with colour changing lights, a ball pit, sensory walk and walls, a tunnel, tent, hanging net and trampoline.

Nursery pupils are able to access the environment throughout the school day, supported by a member of staff. Hopefully, in the future, Pre-Nursery and P1 pupils will have the opportunity to access this provision as well.

Many thanks to the PTA for supporting this idea, and for funding the majority of the equipment.

The Pupil Portal is the Panaga School Learning Platform. The site was created last year with the intention of centralising communication in order to support effective home-school links. Having trialed it for a year, we approached parents to review how successful it was. There were mixed reviews regarding the calendar and weekly notices, however, the information regarding learning was deemed effective. We learned that we needed to promote the learning focused resources more frequently with parents, particularly with new families. We have heeded the advice and are now re-launching the Pupil Portal having made the changes we feel are appropriate. The site will be used with all year groups from Pre-Nursery through to P5. P6-M2 have their own learning platform, ‘Edmodo’.

The aim of the Pupil Portal is to extend learning beyond the school gates and to foster creativity and independent learning in our students. As the focus is on learning, diary dates and parent notices will no longer feature on the portal. Parents will have access to learning objectives, learning advice and home learning activities that their children may participate in; some compulsory, some optional. Please talk to your children’s class teachers if you want to know more about the home learning projects.

In addition to the specific year group pages, there are also Additional Needs Team pages which offers advice in specific areas, e.g. Developing Gross Motor Skills. There is also a DE page with various DE opportunities for children to explore and finally a Milepost 2 IPC page. This page offers websites that support children and parents in researching the IPC learning units studied, should they wish to explore and extend learning in these units at home.

Please take the time to browse the Home Page which offers advice on Online Safety and Cyber Bullying. You can also find details about the school’s subscription for Espresso, an award winning home learning site which is valuable to children across the school.

Welcome back Doodlers and hello to new users! We hope the children have continued to enjoy using the Doodle Maths app during the holidays. For parents and children new to Doodle Maths, below is a quick introduction.

Doodle Maths is a snappy, fun program, tailored to your children’s needs, that can fit around a busy schedule. It is a quick and easy way of supporting Home Learning in Maths, keeping children’s Maths brains active as they consolidate and learn new skills.

We feel it is of great benefit and therefore subscribe and pay for the program so all students in P2-P7 can have an account. The accounts of our existing users will remain the same as last year; students new to P2 or new to the school this term will be issued with a username and password from their class teachers. We advocate that the children complete the 5-7 daily questions which take no more than 5 minutes.

If you have paid for last year’s Yearbook but are yet to receive it, please collect your book(s) from the office you paid and have your name ticked off.

If you have not purchased a Yearbook yet and would like to, there are a limited number of copies for sale for $14 from either school office.

Huge thanks again to all teachers for their efforts and creativity with the Yearbook.

Special thanks as well to the admin team for helping with the purchase order and collections.

We hope last year’s Yearbook can be a keepsake for all Panaga children to treasure for many years to come.
