BRIEFS Ormond Hotel damaged by fire Two rooms in a hotel in Ormond Beach were damaged after a fire broke out on Monday, May 31. The Ormond Beach Fire Department responded to Ocean East Resort Club at 867 S. Atlantic Ave. at 7:40 p.m. after a witness reported seeing a fire in a trash can, which spread to nearby rooms. Guests were evacuated from their rooms as fire was extinguished. It is suspected that the fire was due to discarded smoking materials deposited into plastic trash bins.
