eena Delany loves sea turtles. It’s evident in the way she enthusiastically speaks about the different tracks each species makes on the beach, and in her accessories. She wears dangly silver earrings with sea turtles and in this era of COVID-19, even her mask is sea turtle themed. Delany is one of about 14 Ormond Beach residents who volunteer with the Flagler-Volusia Sea Turtle Patrol. During the May 1 to Oct. 31 nesting season, the Volusia section of the Sea Turtle Patrol check for new nests every day just after 6 a.m., and keep an eye on existing nests as well. Hug Wall Tuscan Gardens Senior Living creates pandemic protocols Chick and Judy Horwitz.

Judy Horwitz was waiting on a couch in a well-lit corridor when her husband of 56 years got off the elevator. She was ready to give him a big hug for the first time in three months, but first they both had to go through some pandemic protocols. Charles “Chick” Horwitz lives in the memory care wing of Tuscan Gardens Senior Living, off Colbert Lane in Palm Coast. With Program Director Sara Meinking’s help, Chick got prepared on one side of a clear plastic wall, while Judy did the same on the opposite side, on the morning of July 30. “When you’re not able to touch your husband since the end of March, this is wonderful,” Judy said. — BRIAN MCMILLAN
