LETTER FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND BOARD CHAIR Dear Friends of Palm Beach Symphony, As we reflect on the 2024–2025 season, we are filled with immense pride and gratitude for a record-breaking year defined by artistic excellence, deepening community impact, and an unwavering commitment to music education.

Under the inspired leadership of Music Director Gerard Schwarz, our Masterworks Series showcased worldrenowned guest artists, including cellist Julian Schwarz; violinists Leonidas Kavakos and Gil Shaham; and pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Garrick Ohlsson, Anne-Marie McDermott, and Kevin Kenner.

This season also marked the debut of The Encore, our seventh Masterworks concert sponsored by Park Foundation, Patrick and Milly Park. The evening opened with a milestone event: a community-wide Side-by-Side performance that united 181 instrumentalists from across Florida. Seventy-three Symphony musicians performed alongside 108 community members ranging in age from 11 to 81 representing 19 K–12 schools, 7 colleges, and more than two dozen local ensembles. Bonds were forged, talents shared, and the joy of music-making celebrated in a moving performance of Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture.

The Dale A. McNulty Children’s Concert Series continued to enchant young audiences with the world premiere of Cinderella and the Orchestra. Five live performances introduced nearly 3,400 Palm Beach County students to the symphonic experience. Since its inception in 2016, our Instrument Donation Program has gifted 898 instruments and more than 2,600 accessories to musicians. This season’s education initiatives were further strengthened by a $250,000 matching grant from Paul and Karen Levy, which doubled the impact of community support and expanded our ability to reach more students across Palm Beach County.

It was another record-setting year for ticket sales, with a 10.8% increase over last year’s historic results, signaling growing enthusiasm across the community. Our A Standing Ovation Gala, chaired by Susan and Bob Wright, welcomed 420 esteemed guests and raised more than $850,000 in support of our mission. The Eighth Annual Holly Jolly Symphony Fête luncheon brought together 425 guests and raised over $450,000, all while spreading holiday cheer. Meanwhile, the sold-out Swings for Strings Golf Invitational raised over $100,000 in support of our education initiatives.

We also proudly welcomed Kewan Smith as our new Director of Development, whose strategic leadership will enhance donor engagement and community outreach for Palm Beach Symphony. This season, we were joined by five new board members, including Carol Baxter, Mary Demory, Percy Kavasmaneck, Ph.D., Martha Rodriguez, M.D., and Adam Wolek, who bring valuable insight and renewed energy to our growing organization.

With deep respect and admiration, we also remember Paul Goldner, a devoted board member, visionary donor, and the founding inspiration behind The Paul and Sandra Goldner Conservatory of Music. His enduring commitment to music education has left a legacy that continues to uplift and transform young lives.

OVERVIEW

W

hen Palm Beach Symphony was founded in 1974 as the first professional orchestra in Palm Beach County, we only performed a few concerts each season with a part-time conductor and volunteer staff. Since then, the Symphony has seen extraordinary development, including new milestones in community outreach, music education, programming and fundraising. In its 51st season, the Symphony continues its strong momentum of growth under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer David McClymont. Music Director Gerard Schwarz is leading spirited performances of Masterworks concerts with an orchestra that reaches 90 players, the mark of a major symphony orchestra.

Recognized by The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County with a 2020 Muse Award for Outstanding Community Engagement, Palm Beach Symphony also continues to expand its education and community outreach programs. Children’s concerts, Artist-inResidence coaching students, masterclasses, instrument donations, and free public concerts have reached more than 90,000 students and lifelong learners in recent years.

In addition to conducting the Masterworks concerts, Music Director Schwarz also conducted the Dale A. McNulty Children’s

Concert Series, and the orchestra recorded it for television through a partnership with South Florida PBS. Palm Beach Symphony attracted more members, subscribers, and single ticket buyers to its blockbuster season of world-class concerts with renowned artists. Performances at the Kravis Center were crowd pleasers, with thousands attending in-person at Dreyfoos Hall. Our partnership with CBS 12 of Sinclair Broadcast Group aired a best-of edition of our Sounds of the Season holiday concert, which reached more than 100,000 people.

We offered multiple membership options such as our Impresario Society, Prelude Society, and Young Friends which play a leading role in the Symphony’s efforts to deliver spirited Masterworks concerts with world-class guest artists. Through these patrons’ combined support, the Masterworks Season provided inspiring classical music performances by virtuoso soloists with first-rate orchestral musicians conducted under Music Director Gerard Schwarz’s baton.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cultural arts organization, we are committed to enhancing the communities in which we perform.

Palm Beach Symphony dedicates its efforts to expand its reach, bringing classical music to people of all ages, backgrounds, and life experiences.

ur community outreach events serve as the cornerstone of our efforts to reach Palm Beach County’s broad and diverse community. At Palm Beach Symphony, we believe in the power of music to create meaningful connections. That’s why we offer a variety of community outreach programs that allow us to engage with members of the community beyond our concert venue.

From miniconcerts throughout Palm Beach County to memorable experiences in hospitals and awarding monetary and in-kind prizes to artists, we utilize the power of music to positively impact the lives of those we serve. As the season advanced, the Symphony engaged in

many opportunities in collaboration with valued community partners – Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, National Endowment for the Arts, PNC Foundation, Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, TeamWork Education Foundation Inc., Rickel Foundation, Findlay Galleries, Cox Science Center and Aquarium, Norton Museum of Art, The Boca Raton, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Florida Atlantic University, Hospital for Special Surgery, and Brooke USA just to name a few - allowing us to offer these excellent programs that vastly enrich our community.

Engage

MUSIC, MAESTROS, AND MASTERS Guests were captivated by a fascinating interactive panel discussion on how the arts and music fuel the body, mind and soul. The evening featured vignette musical performances by FAU faculty and Palm Beach Symphony musicians at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on the Jupiter campus of FAU. Palm Beach Symphony’s Guest Conductor Matt Cooperman, served as Moderator of the incredible panel of speakers that included Maestro Schwarz; Dr. Mitchell Hutchings, Director of FAU Opera Theatre and Founder of FAU Opera in Italy; Lucas Sanchez, Principal Timpani for Palm Beach Symphony and Florida Grand Opera; Dr. Kathleen Davenport, Orthopedic Specialist from Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS); Dr. Irena Kofman, FAU Director of Keyboard Studies and piano faculty of Italy’s Cremona International Music Academy; and Heather Young, head coach of the FAU women’s golf team.

FRANK PRIZE WINNERS 2025 The mission of the Randolph A. Frank Prize for the Performing Arts is to recognize and reward individual performing artists and dedicated educators who enrich the quality of the performing arts in Palm Beach County, Florida.

NURTURING NOTES As part of our Nurturing Notes initiative, Palm Beach Symphony brought comfort and joy to young patients at Palm Beach Children’s Hospital at St. Mary’s on December 3, 2024. Our Assistant Concertmaster Marina Lenau reached

50 children with the healing power of live music as she strolled throughout the hospital performing heartwarming songs on her violin. This intimate performance created moments of calm, connection, and hope during a challenging time, demonstrating how music can uplift spirits and nurture well-being beyond the concert hall.

His unwavering generosity and passion for music education have left an indelible mark on our organization, profoundly influencing the lives of countless young musicians through our award-winning educational programs.

THE PAUL AND SANDRA GOLDNER CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC Palm Beach Symphony creates impact through The Paul and Sandra Goldner Conservatory of Music. It provides music education initiatives that are constantly evolving to deepen and extend student learning opportunities.

The program has positively impacted more than 90,000 students and lifelong learners in Southeast Florida in recent years.

Partially funded by a matching grant along with corporate sponsors and individual gifts, the Symphony offers vital music education programming which includes its Dale A. TODD BARRON INSTRUMENT DONATION PROGRAM The program is made possible through the generous support of donors who provide inkind donations and monetary contributions via our Todd Barron Instrument Donation Fund as well as the Rickel Foundation, PNC Foundation, and the Cultural Council Arts and Cultural Education Fund.

INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION THROUGH A $250,000 MATCH In 2024–2025, Palm Beach Symphony received a remarkable $250,000 matching grant from Paul and Karen Levy, doubling the power of every gift made toward our mission. Their leadership gift helped expand free children’s concerts, in-school music residencies, and the donation of instruments to underserved students across Palm Beach County.

COMPLIMENTARY AND DISCOUNTED TICKETS Thanks to the generous support of Ray and Jacqueline Farris, the 2024-25 season we were able to provide 1,294 students, educators, and their families with complimentary tickets to four of our five Dale A. McNulty Children’s Concert performances of “Cinderella and the Orchestra,” and most students attended the fifth concert at the Kravis Center for free or for $5.

Additionally, thanks to the generous support of PNC Foundation, James R. Borynack and Adolfo Zaralegui / FINDLAY Galleries, Patricia Kennedy, and Carol S. and Joseph Andrew Hays (in memory of Paul Goldner), we provided 875 complimentary tickets to all seven of our Masterworks Concerts including the Pre-Concert Performances provided by student and community ensembles.

DALE A. MCNULTY CHILDREN’S CONCERTS

During the 2024-2025 season, the Dale A. McNulty Children’s Concert Series brought a magical new story to life with Cinderella and the Orchestra, an original family concert that blended classical music, art, and storytelling to captivate young audiences and their families. Set to Ottorino Respighi’s Gli Uccelli (The Birds) and featuring whimsical illustrations by Renata Rodrigues, the production followed Cinderella as she discovered her voice and her flute at a royal masquerade ball. With a heartwarming script by Jody Schwarz and music conducted by Maestro Gerard Schwarz, the concert offered an imaginative and inclusive way for children to experience orchestral music.

The production reached 3,369 attendees across five live performances, including 1,294 students and families who received complimentary admission thanks to the generous support of Ray and Jacqueline Farris.

s a special addition to the 2024–2025 Masterworks Series, The Encore marked the Symphony’s seventh concert of the season and a powerful celebration of community through music.

Held on May 19 at Kravis Center, the evening opened with a side-by-side performance of Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture featuring 181 musicians, including 108 community performers ages 11 to 81 alongside our 73 Symphony musicians. Music Director Gerard Schwarz led this inspiring collaboration, showcasing the power of shared musical experience.

Our newest membership level of support, The Prelude Society enjoyed an exciting season of successful events last season in support of Palm Beach Symphony. CORP GOV with its founder, John Jannarone at the helm, is the Principal Sponsor. Members enjoy a specially reserved Prelude Society area with complimentary champagne at each Masterworks concert before the performance and during intermission.

Additional special events included a members only evening at Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts with a private glass-blowing demonstration and our complimentary “Curated Classics” Prelude evening atop The Ben, Autograph Collection guided by our Assistant Conductor, Yun Cao, featuring a vignette musical ensemble performance with harp and violin, complemented by champagne and lite bites.

Prelude members also enjoyed complimentary reserved seating at our Dale A. McNulty Children’s Concert Series annual Family Concert, “Cinderella and the Orchestra”, plus reserved seating at our Music Maestros and Masters event and exclusive attendance at the Palm Beach Show Kick-Off Party.

23RD ANNUAL GALA: A STANDING OVATION Palm Beach Symphony’s 23rd Annual Gala, A Standing Ovation, was a resounding success, raising more than $850,000 in support of the Symphony’s artistic, education, and outreach programs. Held on February 17, 2025, at The Breakers Palm Beach, the evening was led

by Gala Chairs Susan and Bob Wright, with Cathie Black and Tom Harvey serving as Honorary Chairs.

This elegant black-tie celebration began with cocktails in the Mediterranean Ballroom, followed by a glamorous dinner dance

and an exciting live auction in the Venetian Ballroom, all set to the electrifying music of the Danny Beck Band. More than 420 guests attended this unforgettable evening, which featured a captivating performance by Thomas “Aidan” Gardner, first-place winner of the Lisa Bruna B-Major Award.

Auction highlights included the popular Wall of Wine, a private recital with the B-Major Award winner, a four-night luxury golf getaway at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, the Kennedy Center Honors Experience by Lugano, a Maestro for a Day experience, a private celebration and culinary evening with celebrity chef James Tahhan, and The Ultimate Southern France Escape by GALLIVANT ltd.

On Monday, December 16, 2024, Palm Beach Symphony hosted its Eighth Annual Holly Jolly Symphony Fête at the Cohen Pavilion at Kravis Center, raising $450,000 in support of the Symphony’s musicians, music education programs, and community outreach initiatives. More than 425 guests gathered to celebrate the season and raise critical funds benefiting student musicians and school music programs in need of instruments.

This festive luncheon was made possible through the leadership of the Palm Beach Symphony Ladies Guild; event chairs Carol and Thomas Bruce; honorary chairs Sheryne and Richard Brekus; vice-chairs Mary and Will Demory; the Host Committee; and the Music Men. A remarkable anonymous gift of $100,000 further expanded the Symphony’s community impact.

Major sponsors included presenting benefactors James R. Borynack and Adolfo Zaralegui / FINDLAY Galleries, and Charles and Ann Johnson; maestro grand benefactor Carol and Harold Baxter / Baxter Family Foundation; and concertmaster grand sponsors Dr. Martha Rodriguez, Dr. Jesus Perez-Mendez, and others. Grand sponsors Joy Pahlavan and Carl Vasile of Palm Beach Design Masters provided stunning décor, while Sophia and Manny Burnichon of Private Cask Imports contributed exceptional wines.

The event had a direct and measurable impact on local students.

Educators and students from Berkshire Elementary School, Clewiston Middle School, and Park Vista High School received a total of 32 musical instruments, including 15 brand-new ones, ensuring students across Southeast Florida have the tools to thrive through music. A highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the 2024 Instrumental Music Teacher of the Year Award to Mickey Smith Jr., Associate Director of Instrumental Arts at The King’s Academy, underwritten by Carol S. and Joseph Andrew Hays.

SWINGS FOR STRINGS Palm Beach Symphony continued to hit high notes with its annual golf tournament chaired by Todd Dahlstrom with support from Vice Chair Thomas D’Agostino, Jr. and Honorary Chair Doug Marty, raising over $100,000 and selling out. Generous support from Evoke Advisors, First Bank, Gottsegen Family Foundation, Jorge A Gutierrez Architect LLC, iThink Financial, PNC Private Bank, Publix Super Market Charities, Smart Source LLC, Tish Messinger, and Wellington National Golf Club, along with a successful silent auction led by Auction Chair Sarmite Bulte, contributed to the event’s success. We were also honored to welcome friends and family of the late Todd Barron to the Swings for Strings Crescendo After Dark in support of the instrument donation fund.

YOUNG FRIENDS OF PALM BEACH SYMPHONY Young Friends of Palm Beach Symphony celebrated its 10th anniversary season with great growth in membership, surpassing the previous season by 18%, and support of the Symphony’s education initiatives. Highlights from the season included the donation of 28 instruments to The Conservatory School @ North Palm Beach at the Amrit Ocean Resort thanks to the generosity of TeamWork USA, a collaboration with the FICPA for a pre-concert social at the Hilton West Palm Beach, and a Palm Beach Show Kick-Off in collaboration with the Palm Beach Show, Provident Jewelry, and Friends of the Uffizi Gallery.

LUNCH AND LEARN Palm Beach Symphony was proud to re-introduce the Lunch and Learn Series for the 2024-2025 season. Each session features a unique opportunity to dive deeper into the artistry behind our Masterworks concerts through an engaging series of lecture demonstrations, all paired with a delicious catered lunch.

These events offer behind-the-scenes insights from our experienced musicians, guest conductors, and our Music Director, Gerard Schwarz, in the welcoming and intimate setting of the Community Event Room at the Palm Beach Symphony offices, located in the Center for Philanthropy.

For our return season, the seven Lunch and Learn events welcomed 247 guests.

MEET ME IN THE MEZZANINE Last season’s Meet Me in the Mezzanine saw the participation of numerous organizations at the Masterworks concerts, including the Leadership Business Council, Leadership Palm Beach County, The Breakers Palm Beach, Club Braman, Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County, Forum Club, Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, Nonprofits First, Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, University of Miami Alumni group and NSAL Florida chapter.
