The Ganga Expressway is a new construction project (planned and built from scratch). It is designed to be a six-lane highway that may be expanded to eight lanes if necessary. The project's overall length will be 594 kilometres.

The Ganga Expressway would connect approximately 12 districts in Uttar Pradesh. The Ganga Expressway corridor is extremely important since it would be a vital link connecting the eastern and western parts of the state. The linkage of the state's eastern and western nodes will enable the corridor's infrastructure and economic growth.

The Ganga Expressway is intended to provide last-mile connection to rural regions along the Ganga. The Ganga Highway will help to streamline the transportation network in previously disconnected or poorly linked rural UP neighbourhoods. On the one hand, the Ganga Expressway will improve East-West connectivity; on the other hand, it will create an expressway-led development environment that will help the industrial and economic growth of the districts served.

The Ganga Expressway route will pass through the following districts.

 Meerut

 Hapur

 Bulandshahr

 Amroha

 Sambhal

 Badaun

 Shahjahanpur

 Hardoi

 Unnao

 Rae Bareli

 Pratapgarh

 Prayagraj
