Paper Plate Poppies What you will need:

1. Grab your paper plate and cut 4 small triangle pieces out from around the edge. This will be our poppy.

Paper plates Red, green and black paint Scissors Popsicle sticks Sticky tape

2. Let your child go wild with the red paint, let’s get these poppies looking red and vibrant!

3. Once this is dry enough, paint a black circle in the centre of the plate. This will be the centre of our flower.

4. Now for the stem. Let your child paint the popsicle stick green, and use those plate cut out pieces from before as your leaves. Once dry, stick them together and secure to the back of the paper plate.

5. Voilá, we have our beautiful ANZAC Day poppy, ready to be placed in the garden.

Paper Poppy Wreaths What you will need:

How to:

• Red and green paint, markers or pencils (whatever you have on hand for colouring) • Black marker • Glue or sticky tape • Scissors • Paper plate • Leaf and petal templates

1. Print out the below templates for the leaves and poppy petals.

2. Cut out each stencil and lets get painting the leaves green and the petals red.

3. While they are set to dry, cut the middle circle out of a paper plate and paint this green as well. This will be the wreath that we paste the leaves and poppies to.

4. Once everything is nice and dry, its time to create the poppies.

Grab 4 petals and stick them together, pointy edges touching (see example to the left of the finished product).

5. When all the poppies are constructed, glue them to the green paper plate ring.

6. Finish off by gluing the green leaves inbetween the flowers.

Anzac Biscuits with Major David Hopgood and Cath Hopgood

Ingredients: • 1 cup flour

• 1 cup coconut

• 1 cup rolled oats

• ¾ cup brown sugar • 125g butter

• 2 tablespoons golden syrup • 2 tablespoons water

• 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180°C/160° degrees fan-forced.

2. Stir through flour, oats, sugar and coconut in a bowl.

3. Combine the butter, golden syrup and water in a saucepan and heat until the butter melts. Remove from the heat and stir in the bicarbonate of soda.

(Hold saucepan over the bowl of the flour mix in case it flows over as the bicarbonate of soda bubbles up).

4. Pour the butter and syrup mixture in with dry ingredients and mix until it comes together as a dough.

5. Roll dough into small balls and place onto a greased tray ensuring that they are evenly spaced. They can be pressed down gently with a fork.

6. Bake the biscuits for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
