Tell us about your brand, how and when did you decide to become a fashion designer?

At NickieNina, each collection is unique in its level of individuality, originality & elegance. A combination of Nickie’s classic sense of design with Nina’s gallant sensibility of style has been the biggest strength of the label thus far, creating inimitable timeless pieces with each new collection. We were both entrepreneurs working in the corporate world while designing clothes for friends and family on the side. One fine day, we decided to take the all or nothing approach and quit our day jobs to focus solely on our love for fashion Describe NN in three words?

Timeless, Chic & Festive What makes NN different from other brands?

Every NickieNina piece is curated with love Where do you derive your inspiration from?

At NickieNina, we do not have a set formula for inspiration. Our inspiration can come from a sandy beach, a palace in Versailles, rich culture of the subcontinent or anything in between.

Who do you think will be the perfect muse for this brand?

Anna Wintour. However, we would have loved to dress Benazir Bhutto in her lifetime.

Which one is your favorite creation so far?

The Royal Military collection which was inspired by the Pakistan Army. Our late father was an army officer and we dedicated the collection to him, therefore it has a special place in our hearts.

Describe your clientele? What kind of women carries your outfits?

The NickieNina woman varies from strong, independent, successful women to younger, sassy girls with a flair for fashion What are the pros and cons of being a fashion designer?

Being a fashion designer is very liberating as it gives you a strong sense of achievement seeing others wear your designs.

The only con would be the long hours and balancing family life with work life.

Any advice for an aspiring fashion designer? Or someone in the same field as you?

Fashion should always be combined with your own personal style so please create your own signature style while keeping up with the latest trends. Furthermore, there is no shortcut to experience so please be willing to put in the hours and be open to criticism.

Where do you wish to see NN in the next 5 years?

Being a household name already, our dream is that whenever a woman thinks of fashion, she thinks of NickieNina 2019

WE APPLAUD MALIK FOR HER DETERMINATION FOR THIS CAUSE AND HOPE SHE CAN CONTINUE TO CARRY ON THE WORK SHE IS DOING TO BRING ABOUT AWARENESS IN OUR SOCIETY.

Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted?

I always wanted to be an artist, i always wanted to create and share my art. Hence I explored different art forms from sculpture to dance to animation and eventually got into the art of Story telling.

What was your “aha!” moment?

Everyday we discover something New, We get amazed, we get surprised, we have new realizations. Hence I would say my life is full of "aha" moments.

Did you ever consider or experience a career change?

Yes I started off as a sculptor, ventured into animation, started acting, then a talk show host and then now a director and a producer. Aren't they all different experiences and I am open to exploring more.

My upbringing, the love and support my parents always gave me, my close family bonding, my dogs and all that God has given me. I think I am very blessed.

What is #1 thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list?

A knapsack, solid pair of shoes and me wandering around the world.

What does nobody tell you about being the boss?

Being the boss is always not fun. At times you are the last one to know that somethings gone wrong.

“BEING THE BOSS IS ALWAYS NOT FUN. AT TIMES YOU ARE THE LAST ONE TO KNOW THAT SOMETHINGS GONE WRONG."

When was a time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it?

Like everyone I have had major setbacks but that has never stopped me. Recovery is a big issue in this industry and I have come down to zero many times but strange enough some new door or some guardian angel comes my way. My belief that God is looking over me has always made me feel positive and I have always come through.

What was the best advice that your mentor gave you?

My mentor was my dad and he always told me if I do my best and give it all I have i will never fail and that has always worked for me. Whatever i take on becomes a passion and feeling passionate about what you chose to do is the key to success.

What are the top 3 things you cherish in your life?

Name on boss lady that you admire and how she still inspires you?

Benazir, at the age of 35 to become a prime minister in a country where men rule.. That is admirable.

Describe a day in your life If I am.not shooting I like staying at home, spending time with my three dogs. Writing is something I recently discovered whether it's good by any standards that does not matter but it gives me a lot of satisfaction.

To try again.

Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with?

Trump. I find him very amusing.

What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours?

We went to Barcelona as we were taking a Mediterranean cruise that originated and culminated there and we thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to spend a few extra days there and thoroughly explore the city.

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our section, planes, trains & automobiles!

Tell us the most delicious meal you tired?

When we travel we love to explore local cuisine and were very lucky that we had a gourmand among us who had been to Barcelona before and already tried the best food available. So, he took us to El Xampanyet at Gothic Quarters for lunch, which had a huge waiting line, and where among other things we tried the Spanish omelette, and a variety of tapas including the signature anchovies, all of which were delectable.

Tell us the most exciting thing you did during your trip?

Other than lots of sight-seeing, eating and shopping, we went to see a flamenco dance show at Palau Dalmases, which was a lot of fun.

Tips?

Spare at least three days to really imbibe the spirit of the city and be prepared to do plenty of walking. The hop-on-hop-off bus is a must if you don’t have too much time, as you at least get to see all the important sights from the bus – sit on the top for best view -- and can opt to get off for those places that you want to see from within, if you have the time.
