Why did you decide to become a designer? It always seemed like the way to go. My family’s business is to manufacture fabric and since a young age I had a lot of exposure to the minor details that go into putting together a high-quality, high-fashion product. My parents let me explore the possibilities and once I started designing on my own it came naturally to me and I found myself really passionate towards fashion design. Who has been your biggest inspiration and why? My parents. Their hard work and contribution to the fabric industry as well as my own potential has been priceless. They always encouraged exploration and were very observant towards my passion towards design. It was them who encouraged me to pursue a career in fashion design. Tell us about a time when you had to deal with a difficult client. What was the situation and how did you react? I feel often people don’t realize that a couture piece is a time consuming task and I just wish clients would be a little more patient in terms of their piece being ready. Also I’ve had a hard time explaining to some clients that I can only accommodate their design based on their budget. I feel like people here don’t understand that too well. What is the funniest question that you have ever been asked in an interview? I’ve been asked this since I was a child. “Do you ever smile?” If you weren’t a designer, what would you be doing right now? I’d probably be a good army officer. Which design house do you look up to and why? I love Paul Smith! Whether its aesthetic or strategy or the management of the organization. They’ve been around for around 70 years and he has been knighted by the Queen of England too! What is your creative process before you launch a collection? Each design requires a unique mind-set with the right amount of consistency. Then comes the patience. I take time to cultivate each look. I would also like to think that I have a good sense of what looks beautiful with a sense of luxury and I always try to incorporate that. What’s your motto or the advice you live by? Don’t confuse life with career and vice versa. There is a harmonious balance in all things and that is what I strive to achieve. What is your favourite song to belt out at in the car? Beautiful People by Ed Sheeran What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I can’t cook! Other than a cup of tea with an omelette to go with it! Who has been your mentor in this industry and what would you like to say to them today? Again, my own parents have been involved in the fundamental process of manufacturing fabric and therefore it has always been their original and honest insight that has done me so much good. Ten years from now you will be… I will be aiming for FAS to be the quintessential trendsetter of tomorrow. We’ve already combined the sophistication of the yesterdays with today’s funk and tomorrow’s uniqueness. So I just want to see FAS as the go-to fashion trendsetter in the future.

Where did you go and why? We have a special place in our heart for the beauty of Northern Pakistan. Every year, the Lulusar team goes on an adventure to the North of Pakistan for a campaign shoot and to explore the breath-taking valleys and views.

planes, trains & automobiles

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our section, planes, trains & automobiles! Who did you go with? This year, the Lulusar team for the North Campaign included Fawad Shah (Director & Partner), Muniba Rashid (Design Lead), Manal Akmal (Fashion Designer), Jaazah H. Baloch (Marketing & PR Manager), Sanwal Chisti (Fashion & Multimedia Manager), Tahir Malik (Multimedia Assistant). We were joined by lively models Sana Rajput, Hiba Khan and Rabia Chaudhry, with our favorite makeup artist, Nauman. Amazing places to see. The whole trip was full of breathtaking views that we couldn't get enough of! What really left us awe-struck was how we could see Nanga Parbat from Rama Lake, as well as the crystal clear Silk Valley Lake - definitely our favorite!

Favorite spots to eat. The best food we tried was from Naran's local market. While we usually ate from the hotels, the market food was amazing after tiring treks and mingling with the locals and listening to their stories made the experience so much better. Another highlight was the hot chocolate and coffee we had on cold days that warmed us up and was super delicious! Tips for other travelers To be adventureous and open to new experiences! Northern Pakistan is beautiful but the routes are definitely thrilling. The narrow roads are not for the faint of heart, especially in Chillas and on the way to Rama Lake. You should be prepared for moments like those, because the destination is so worth it!
