Who are you and what do you do?

I'm a visual artist from Karachi and have just recently moved to Lahore. I studied Fine Art from Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture and graduated in December 2015. I've been making paintings ever since and have exhibited at various galleries across Pakistan.

Why do you do what you do?

Everyone has something that they're meant to do. I was lucky enough to discover it early on, and I can't imagine a life where I'm not creating.

What's integral to the work of an artist?

I think the most important thing for an artist is to be able to recognize his/her own voice. It's easy to get lost in a mix of opinions and critiques - but a fact of the matter is that criticism will always exist but it is in your hands to decide what to do with it. It's crucial to strike the balance between absorbing criticism and retaining artistic license.

Explain what you do in 100 words.

I was a printmaking major and what I love about it is that there are so many various techniques that yield such distinct results, some of my favourites being woodcut/linocut and aquatint. Over the course of testing and trying out new techniques I came across carbon transfers. So I take my drawings and transfer those onto my workspaces and fuse watercolour painting together. The carbon transfers give it a charcoal like feel, so it ends up turning into this interesting mix between rough drawing and painting.

What art do you identify with the most?

That's a difficult question for me to answer because I'm still trying to figure that out. I can tell you which artists inspire me the most. Michael Kempson, Irfan Hasan and Adeel uz Zafar are three of my favourites.

What's your strongest memory of your childhood?

When I was 5-years-old I shoved a marble up my nose and was frantically rushed to the ER to have it removed.

What themes do you pursue?

I am most fascinated by people and how they mould into who they are or influence a given space.

Describe a real life situation that inspired you?

I was in the first grade when I made my first painting. I was sitting in my weekly art class, colouring in a printed drawing of a girl making a sandcastle on the beach; her short hair in soft waves, and a seashell-like bikini. I heard the bell ring as I was dotting the seashells with fluorescent purple and orange poster paints, adding my finishing touches. While the bell was beckoning us to move on to our next class, I remember realising how anxiously I have always waited for those sixty minutes to return as soon as they were over. My mother seemed to share my enthusiasm. She got that painting framed and she had made me sign it. Every time I look at that painting now it reminds me of

how early on I took pride in creating.

Why art?

Because, like i said, I can't imagine doing anything else.

What food, drink, song inspires you?

I wouldn't say they inspire me, but a bottomless mug of chai and an upbeat playlist definitely keeps me going while I'm painting. At the current moment 'Danny Ocean - Me RehĂşso' plays on repeat.

Most inspirational place?

Italy, specifically Rome, has been one of the most breathtaking places I've been to.

What's your dream project?

I'm currently working on my dream project. I've been wanting to work on this for two years but I've only now been able to fully invest in it. I don't want to give anything away, but when I'm ready to reveal it, Paperazzi will be the first to know! For now, I frequently share work I'm doing alongside this on my instagram page 'fatimanadeem8'. Do follow and check it out if you're interested!

How did you start your career in fitness?

I started my career in fitness at Studio X five years ago and it has been life changing for me ever since. My mentor and coach was Jeanette, and I am truly grateful for that as I learnt so much. I've also taught at AQ power yoga. Initially it started off as a passion and turned into a career that I absolutely love. Now with Impact it is Nida and my baby. It is a partnership run fitness studio. We are both committed to it and are totally crazy about it What does a typical day of eating include for you?

A typical day of eating starts with soaked overnight oats with nuts, fruits and seeds . A healthy lunch of quinoa , some protein and vegetables , a healthy snack of black coffee with some baked fruit or boiled egg with raw salad and a light dinner of a protein based meal with sautĂŠ vegetables or salad . I try to keep my strongly caffeinated drinks limited to two cups a day and green tea 2-3 cups for fat burning , and my fruit intake to two to three pieces per day . I close my day with a cup of echinacea tea followed with camomile tea as I'm a strong believer in herbs for health .

How do you juggle between motherhood, self care and workout?

That's the million dollar question ! My weekdays start at 6.30am!

I get Ayaan ready, then we have our breakfast followed with school drop and then I'm at the Impact studio by 8.15 am for the first class . After I teach I train at the gym. Self care is mostly at home simple treatments , hair mask or face masks I like to be mindful of it as much as I can, not so frequent ,basic beauty treatment visits to the salon as I dont get much time . I recently started using aloe Vera for skincare and I also try having it as a superfood. Yikes! Very strong aftertaste! Haha Work is a shared process between Nida and myself and I'm so grateful for her support and partnership . And because of that we are able to be involved in our kids post school activities like swimming , football and Arabic Quran classes.

How would you describe your style?

My style varies from day to night . Everyday style is mostly gymwear , I practically wear my trainers everywhere. It's mostly comfortable day wear, tights a loose button down men's shirt and a scarf as Karachi is very hot and I'm very active with my son and my house. Evening wear I like to dress up so I want to be formally dressed , formal pants with a silk blouse and the right accessories , I absolutely love Jewelery so I must add that for my dressed up look or my vintage faded jeans with a stylishly cut on trend blouse ,heels and a clutch . My look for night ,is glam chic so it gives me a break from my regular pattern and gives me a chance to feel girly, fun and alive.

What makes FTA your favorite designer?

FTA is my favourite designer firstly because Maliha and aunty are both beautiful people. The kind of person I am that makes a huge difference . Their style is so feminine,chic and super stylish ,I mean you fall in love with every piece. The cuts and silhouettes are simply gorgeous. The colour palette is always aesthetic,they make you look glamorous ,feminine and very comfortable at the same time . I can't wait to add their pret pieces to my collection.

What are the three words that come to your mind when you think about Farah Talib Aziz's collection?

The three words that came to my mind when I saw her collection were beautiful, glamorous and delicately exquisite.

As a fitness guru, what advice would you like to give other women regarding fitness and fashion?

I would like to advise other women about fitness and fashion , firstly we must dress for our body type, there is a lot of beauty in that . We don't have to follow fashion trends "just because " . We must always respect our bodies and look after it as a lifelong goal. As it's not just about looking slender and good , there is a lot of positive health related benefits that happens to your body internally, like DNA age reversal , disease fighting anti bodies are created , the immune system is strengthened one is protected osteoporosis and it is mind strengthening at the same time too . So you have a better quality of life, along with good health which is priceless!
