Tell us a little about yourself. How did your interest in fashion designing begin? Academically we are both engineers and entrepreneurs, when we returned to Pakistan, there weren’t any jobs for us in the advanced sectors we had received training in. We figured we need to start with a sector that has the required human resource, and then start building on that knowledge base that can compete with international practices, including the introduction of AI and machine learning that is becoming an imperative part in designing and manufacturing. What made you decide to take the path of setting up a design house? The fashion sector internationally is going through a shift, and we want to create a brand that rides the new wave, so Pakistan does not miss this bus too. We want to see designed and made in Pakistan to become bullish globally. The plus point of fashion, it’s a soft tool, and can project a progressive image of the country abroad. Our drive is to take this brand to the international level and make it successful, and using its platform to launch philanthropic activities within Pakistan to uplift those who are eager to excel but aren’t given the opportunity.
WE DON'T DO
FASHION we are fashion WE SPEAK TO THE DYNAMIC DUO BEHIND ZURIA DOR
What is the concept behind your brand, Zuria Dor? To push for innovation, international outreach, technology backed commerce, sustainability, ethics and a much-needed tow to bring Pakistan into the schematics of the global village. Where do you derive your inspiration from? From everyone and everything that surrounds us. Yes, certain designers do inspire us but so does architecture, nature, art. Inspiration can be drawn from an infinite source! What are the pros and cons of being a fashion designer?

As with any job you have to put your blood, sweat and tears into something that you really want. It is strenuous work but being able to put the vision and creations into the world makes it all worth it. Which one is your favorite creation by far? It would have to be our ivory wedding dress, which has become a customer favorite as well. Describe your clientele. What kind of women carry your outfits? Our clients are women of the world. They are independent, strong-willed, ambitious, and ready to achieve their ambitions in style. Which international designers are your personal favorites when it comes to clothes? Continues to be Ralph & Russo. Is it hard to juggle between work and personal life? At times, yes, it does get hard to maintain a balance but when you enter the field of design where fashion is evolving by the day, it becomes unrealistic to think that your work isn’t your life now. Any advice for an aspiring fashion designer? Or someone in the same field as you? Keep at it! It’s like horse racing; you have to push yourself constantly to take the lead, to be noticed, to entice your audience. Make sure you don’t lose your vision in the process and succumb to the pressure. Lastly, where do you see Zuria Dor in another 5 years? We aim for Zuria Dor to reach international acclaim. 2019

Who is Fatima Malik? I run a Salon by the name of Meraki Beauty & wellness, & i learnt at an early age the importance of accepting and loving who you are. While growing up, my parents instilled in me the philosophy that "the things that make us different are the qualities that make us beautiful." This statement has become the mantra by which i live and the power behind it has led to my success. My natural ability to make clients not only look beautiful, but feel beautiful has made me a favorite among a versatile group. Tell us three things we don’t know about you. 1. I like eating crisps in bed whilst watching TV at night. 2. I am a great listener, my friends and family often come to me to vent out. 3. I am a huge fan of sweet things, I can have it absolutely any time of the day. What are the 5 essential things you keep in your bag? The most important beauty product I always take with me is my face powder, brow eye pencil and lipstick. And ofcourse Perfume & phone charger. I always keep these things in my bag. Did you always want to be a makeup artist & hairstylist All my life I suppose! I remember as a child always playing around with my mother’s make up and asking her to let me apply it. The hair industry is totally different but I love to follow hair trends new hair dye colors, hairstyles & haircuts. If you weren’t a makeup artist, what would you be? If I weren’t a makeup artist I would probably be a Chef because I love to cook. Who is one celebrity you would want to doll up? There are so many but right now Mahira Khan and Maya Ali are the number ones on my list. What is your favorite Make up brand? I am a big fan of MAC cosmetics and Anastasia Beverly Hills. Honestly I can’t decide which is my favorite Mac product. I love their foundations (studio fix), their lipsticks and highlighter. From Anastasia Beverly Hills I really like their Contour kit, the liquid lipsticks and of course their Brow Pomade
Favourite hair brands L’Oréal is on top of my list. We are L’Oréal expert. And L’Oréal is the best for hair dyes, Hairstyling & haircare Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In the next 5 years, I would like to see myself grow not only professionally but as a person too. I would love to see Meraki achieve and become everything we have thought it to be. What would you like to say to our followers? Keep moving forward no matter how tough it gets, always chase your dreams, and keep learning and growing, we never stop learning!!! That is the key to everything!
