DR SHAHZAD OF DENTAL AESTHETICS for me but also for a lot of dentists in Pakistan and abroad. Ever since I started practicing I enjoy helping my patients smile and eat with ease. How do you provide instructions to patients on dental hygiene? Instructions to patients are given mostly by demonstrating teeth brushing techniques and showing them how to floss in order to maintain good oral hygiene. We always make sure we are in good communication with the patient for the betterment of their oral health. We also give them tips and talk about the habits they should adopt to improve the oral hygiene.
How did you get into this field? My father has been my inspiration. I always looked up to him as my idol. I saw how he helped people and how he made significant improvements in people's lives by restoring their smile, teeth, selfconfidence, self-image, and ability to eat and speak properly. I knew then that it would be a good idea to follow his footsteps into dentistry. He has been my teacher, mentor and guide, not just 12

Where did you get your certifications from? I have my bachelor degree from de’Montmorency College of dentistry and post grad from Kings college London in Advanced Aesthetic dentistry. What treatments do you offer? We are team of specialist
providing all dental treatments. We offer dental implants for missing teeth, smile makeovers to improve the smile, braces to improve the crooked or crowded teeth. Root canal treatments are done to save a tooth. Basic services such as scaling to clean the plaque and teeth whitening for a brighter smile are also provided. Apart from dental services facial aesthetic and cosmetic services are also being offered. What are the biggest opportunities and challenges for practice right now? The biggest challenge is to stay on top of your game. Keeping up to date with dental equipment and technology is the core of success for today’s dental practices. Patients today are highly informed. They demand quality services. So it is important to have specialized equipment and technology more
now than ever before. As people are becoming aware of oral health and its importance, there has been an increase in the number of people visiting a dentist and more importantly dentistry is now been recognized as a cosmetic and aesthetic treatment. The smile lift is a great way for patients to get surgical results with the non-surgical use of porcelain veneers, improving their smile and facial structure. We ensure that our customers always receive outstanding personalized dental care and maintenance. Apart from being a cool dentist, what do you do for fun? Dentists are happy fun-loving people too. I enjoy travelling around the world for sightseeing and attending conferences. I love

playing cricket and golf and bingewatching reality shows. Sometimes sneaking out and getting a scoop of ice cream and grabbing another slice of fudge cake. I enjoy splurging on trips because after all that hard work, everyone needs a good vacation. Being a doctor, treating patients how have you been able to fairly balance work and friends/family? Work life balance is difficult in any profession but I am lucky to have a team of professionals who are working with me on the practice. I can have flexible hours too but my team helps me in finding time for my family and friends. Balancing work and daily family life is an ongoing challenge but passion for work especially creating smiles for my patients makes it fun and helps in fulfilling my goals. Thinking innovatively and a focused vision has helped my dental practice to be successful. How toothpaste tubes are being portrayed as magic wands and can toothpastes really cure bleeding gums, sensitivity and tooth ache? I believe the toothpaste are being portrayed as a magic wand that can fix dental issues, but the reality is that it’s not true. All the dental issues to be diagnosed and treatment options to be advised by the dentist and the specialist. If the problem is not looked at by the dentist and magic wands are used to get any relief it would make issues worse. Instead of trying home remedies I would always advice to get help from a professional.

Tell us a little about yourself? I completed my MBA from Lahore School of Economics with majors in marketing. My father is an entrepreneur so I always imagined myself handling my family business. Cooking was always my hobby and since childhood I’ve been a big foodie. However, despite all the culinary classes that I took on the side, I never thought of taking up food as a career. I would pass the credit to my friends and family who pushed me to do this professionally. Initially I started as a home baker and gradually as things progressed, I began doing grazing tables and afternoon tea tables at a professional level. Did you ever consider or experience a career change? I wouldn’t really call it a career change, but realignment. My entire educational experience revolves around business and management as I always imagined myself ending up somewhere in the corporate sector. But there was never a clear plan in my mind. But when I discovered cooking as a viable career option, things began to fall into place, including all that I had learnt from school to university. I think fate made the decision for me.
years, I have experienced that you can’t adopt one managerial style for different kinds of people. Your style should vary from person to person. In order to lead you need to understand and embrace the differences of your team members and turn them into positives. Name one boss lady that inspired you take your own path, and how did she inspire you? My biggest inspiration is my mother who since an early age, taught me the importance of creating a balance in my life. While being a part of a big family she imparted in me a sense of individualism, and instilled in me a desire to constantly learn new things and to educate myself more and more. Having her in my life helped me become my own person. Complete this sentence, ‘To me a #BossLady is…’. who doesn’t let anyone mess with her. A lesson your biggest failure might have taught you? Setbacks are a part of life; sometimes in your personal life and sometimes in your professional life. There are times when things don’t work out in your favor; all you have to do is keep moving against the odds. Even if you’re going to slow your speed, it’s okay. Just take things one day at a time. And just remember that sometimes it’s okay not to be okay. That doesn’t make you weak. In retrospective, setbacks make you realise that you stronger than you think you are. Failures are nature’s way of showing you how strong you really are and what more you are capable of.
“EAT ,DRINK AND BE MERRY IS THE MOTTO OF MY LIFE”
Did you ever feel discouraged mid way your routine? How did you push through it? Definitely, I’m a person who gets demotivated very easily when things don’t work out the way I have planned. But my friends and family have been my biggest support. They constantly push me to break barriers and to make me believe in myself. In addition to that I get really encouraged by my clients who put so much trust in me with their events; that really uplifts my spirits during lousy days. What are the top three things that you cherish the most in your life? Food, family and friends! What is the #1 thing yet to be ticked off your bucket list? Design a house for myself. What does nobody tell you about being the boss? Contrary to what I was taught during my educational
What advice would you give to young girls who look up to you and have goals and dreams like you? If you’re passionate about something just jump right in. Don’t let rejections break your spirit. The initial phase is the hardest, but just let yourself be driven by your dreams not by other people’s opinions. And for the people who have not discovered themselves yet. Just let yourself be drawn to what you love. And nature will define your path on its own. Sooner or later you will find your destiny. Just be true to yourself and to your work. Because hard work always pays off.
