FEATURING IMAGE FABRICS
ready, set, style! this week alis hay adnan fas hi on stylist & s o cial media coordinator at daraz wears four image fabrics o utfits & makes them her very own .
I loved the pleasant color and balmy cotton-net texture of this kurta; not to forget the cutest frill detail on the sleeves. I paired it with pleated culottes and nude lace ups to keep the look simple, yet chic. This outfit definitely made me feel pretty in pink!

This blue digital printed kurta is perfect for a brunch. Your choice of accessories can make all the difference so I went with a gher shalwar with lace embellishment and statement accessories to spice up the ensemble. The Esfir earrings I wore were definitely the cherry on top.

READY, SET, STYLE!
This has to be my favourite look because of my love for white. I would wear this outfit on Eid as I feel it's perfect for the occasion. The beautiful floral embroidery around the neck and silk tulip shalwar makes it suitable for any day event. To enhance the look, I went for red lips

I would wear this super cute kurta to work - I loved that the colour is so vibrant and refreshing. The organza bell bottoms really kicked the outfit up a knotch. I paired it with black accessories that I could comfortably wear to work. Since I am too lazy to wear makeup everyday, I used sunglasses to compete this look!

talk of the town Describe a typical work day for you as an owner? My typical work day still starts as a firefighter. Trying to solve issues ranging from water supply, generator to staff management. What made you become a restauranteur and why this particular cuisine? This restaurant business just happened as an accident. It started off as a joke as I was always very particular about my food. I concluded that we Laborie’s just love either our food so I picked up Chinese and I thought I could do something that is missing. There was no “asian casual dine in” place before BU.
Who do you think are your competitors? I never really worry about competition, as long as you’re doing your own thing right, The problem here is we just see a success story want to copy the same. What was the most difficult aspect of starting this restaurant? The most difficult part was to convince my father about this venture. Where do you see bamboo union in 5 years? I have a very aggressive growth plan for 5 years but we will not even branch out till at least a year. As a boss, are you a very hands on person or do you believe in delegation of responsibitliy, decision making and tasks? This business requires you to be hands on with everything. I have now pulled myself back and deligated the managers to take up on the tasks that i was looking after before. I don’t see much growth if I’m looking after every issue. What inspired you to be come a chef/restaurant owner? 36

It was never a plan to be in this business but i guess i saw my father, who after his MBA, joined the family business and always complained how he never wanted to be a part of the business and would have enjoyed more as a banker than what he was doing. I guess i never wanted to live with the same feeling which was the driving force in my decision and sticking to it. You’ve worked in all areas of the restaurant, from the kitchen to the floor to sales. What insights can you share about the differences and the difficulties? I love every bit of my work. I’m just grateful for everything and striving to improve every bit of the experience for our customers. Hard work has no substitute and there are no short cuts. Ive had almost no sleep for the first two weeks into the operation. Things are now looking much better and improving by day. Who are your ideal customers for you personally and for the market niche you want bamboo union to be targeting? I started this with idea to give Lahore something different interms of the menu, an asian place to be a casual quick dining experience. My target segment was 18-50 initially, as i thought the sort of menu that i have will not attract people beyond this age. I know you usually act as maitre'd yourself during busy hours. The following situation is unfolding: "a group of people who have had their party's name on the list for a while and have been waiting goodgoodnaturedly by the door. Another group comes in, looks at the line and hands you rs 5000 note when he shakes your hand." whom will you seat first? Bu has been infamous for its waiting period and the weather surely has also not helped the customers. Lets say if any customer tries to bribe my Manager, he will surely refuse as i have a very honest team. What is your biggest weakness and biggest strength? My biggest weakness is to get effected by the things that happen around me and this can sometimes take a toll on me. My biggest strength would be to get along with almost anyone regardless of the bracket of their age, this also helps my business now. Tell us something about yourself? As much as i talk I’m a very private person. I miss working out, as BU being my first wife still doesn’t allow me to have any time off. I had serious ADD because of which i suffered at School a lot, Now this helps me at work as i get to focus on everything. What was the worst meal that you've had? My worst meal was in Canada with their local airlines. Is there anything you can tell us about yourself, your career, or the profession that would be interesting or helpful to others aspiring to enter and succeed in the restaurant business? Staring BU was not easy. Most of my friends just started saying you should start looking for a job rather than wasting time looking for spaces. God was kind enough to help me get the space that we have, and from the little retail experience that i had before my learning was that your location is everything. Almost everyone that i shared the rental details about was advising me not to take this space as it was too expensive. But i went against it all and i think it has paid off well. 2016

the concept behind bamboo union by raza is a casual quick dine place similar to wagamama. He wanted to give his restaurant a new concept of quick food on the go with small groups served with single serving food. the best clients are those who allow their architects a certain degree of independance in tailoring their space to suit them perfectly. 38
