Q: I have a pretty good job at a bank. However, I recently got married and now have to support my mother and my wife. It's becoming stressful as my mother still expects the same amount of money she received before my marriage and my wife keeps wondering what is happening with our finances. I'm lying to everyone to keep the peace. I just don't earn enough, and it's such a consumer heavy culture I feel stuck. Please help.

A: This sounds like a tough position to be in. It seems quite obvious that your mother would know that finances are about to get split up since you now have to support your wife. In fact, you should sit down with both your wife and mother and tell them how much you earn and what you can afford to give. Lying at the beginning or in fact at any stage of your relationship will catch up with you. It is better your wife knows that you are spending on your mother rather than assuming you're spending on other things or women. I'm not quite understanding why you're having to lie? Will your wife have a problem that you are giving your mother money? This needs to be addressed and you need to let her know what your responsibilities are. Do what is right and what is just and stop creating trouble for yourself by hiding under the fake comfort of a lie.

Q: My dear friends wife is cheating on him. I am caught between a rock and a hard place as the person she is cheating on him with is another friend. Help! I feel morally compromised just because I know so much information.

A: It is rather unfortunate that you in fact have this information. There is no easy answer to this question. But it is very important to analyse how serious the situation is. Is your friend who is cheating falling in love and planning to leave his wife? Does it seem serious or is it a mid-life crisis or a mistake that he is regretting? Do you think his wife knows?

Many times the spouse knows when a situation like this is happening. They are either in the process of finding proof, trying to absorb the situation to see how they are going to handle it or are in denial. Your best bet is to try talking to each of your friends and determine what's going on. Let us warn you - the messenger always gets killed. It might be best to tell your friend to tell his wife otherwise you will have to. Hopefully he will either end his cheating ways or deal with his wife on his own terms.

Delicious food, a great ambience and extremely good service, Zucchini is definitely a place we will be frequenting. We highly recommend the Mezze platter, Stuffed Chicken with Potato Crust and Margherita Pizza!

eat eat eat repeat We got in touch with some of Karachi's favourite foodies and asked them about their Food Festival experience. Here's what they had to say;

• FAIZA RANGOONWALA (ENTREPRENEUR) ''I had the short rib grilled cheese sandwich, churros, afghan kababs, chapli kababs, khaosuey from Saniya's Kitchen and Pani Puri but have to say Fatsos was my favourite stall. I had a great time with friends (Neshmia Ahmed!) and really enjoyed tasting all the different kinds of food. I must say that I was extremely impressed with how organized the event was. There was a good variety of options, good music, great atmosphere and an amazing crowd!''

• SEHAR AHMED: ''We ate everything in sight from the Burns Road bun kebabs to the khaosuey at Saniya's Kitchen to the waffles at Bond Street Waffles but if I had to choose a favourite it would be a tie between Pantry and Fatso's. Compared to last year, the festival was extremely well spaced-out and the variety of cuisines and stalls were great. The addition of the kids play area was a great idea!

• TAPU JAVERI (PHOTOGRAPHER) ''The Karachi Food Festival was fun, great day out. But the food was a bit on the expensive side. Rs 200 for chaat? Also, there were really long lines for all the best items but on the whole I had a nice time being out in great weather with beautiful Frere hall in the background. My friends and I ate the Chapli Kebabs and some chaat but then gave up and chilled at the National food stall where we had great chai.''

• SARWART GILLANI (ACTOR) ''All the stalls were amazing since they were all super Pakistani. I really enjoyed having the Bun kabab, Patio's pizza and Chapli kebabs. Its an amazing opportunity to see what Pakistan and Pakistanis are all about and every year the bar gets higher!''

• SALIMA FEERASTA (BLOGGER) ''My favourite stall has to be Breast & Loin - their steak and cheese sandwich was divine. And oh boy, what didn't I eat?! It was the ultimate cheat weekend.

Ice cream macarons from Lals, Bun Kebab, Barbecue Wings, Banberry ice cream rolls, Steak & Cheese sandwich, Porcupine prawn rolls, pomegranate gelato. Oh must mention choc and churros, Fatso's grilled sandwiches and Danish open face sandwiches. It was a lovely day out with the kids - met loads of my friends with their families. I liked the fact that it was more spacious than last year - and there was more seating though I took along a picnic blanket. There was lots more desi food which I love but there were long waits at popular stalls and it was very crowded.''

• AYAZ ANIS (PHOTOGRAPHER) ''Karachi Eat Food Festival was a great effort. I loved the new food stalls that you don't get otherwise.

This was my first visit and I can't wait to come again next year. My favourite stall has go to be Breast and Loin although I tried many different things. I had the beef and cheese burger from Steak and Loin, Wasabi and Ranch wings from Wingitt, Gola Ganda from Andarooni, Chapli kebab house's signature dish and Haleem!''

• SAMIYA ANSARI (STYLIST/BLOGGER) ''My favourite stall was Fatso's! I had a lot to eat as I went all three days but the highlights were Fatsos short rib grilled sandwich, open faced Danish sandwiches, the steak sandwich at Breast & Loin, Bond Street waffles, Nutella manakesh, Wings from Wingitt, White Biryani and the grilled Mac n cheese and brownies from Maison M. I am quite the foodie at heart and really liked Karachi Eat last year and this year. I feel like it's a great platform for the hidden home talents to come out and showcase their culinary skills. However I feel like the commercial restaurants don't necessarily belong there as start up businesses and home chefs deserve more of a chance. Overall I'm uber happy with Karachi Eat and already looking forward to the next one!''

• ALYSHEH ADNAN (STYLIST) ''My favourite stall was hands down, Fatso's but I tried a bunch of things this time around such as the Short Rib Sandwich from Fatso's, Churros & choc, fried Cheesecake and Churros from Pane & Amore, Khaoswey from Khao Dosa, Chapli Kebab, Wingitt, grilled Mac & Cheese from Maison M, Roast Beef Sandwich from Danish open face Sandwiches, Chai from Chai Wala, Steak Burger from Breast & Loin, Waffles from Bond Street Waffles and Afghani Boti from Khyber Koyla. I attended the festival with friends on Day 2 and family on Day 3. I think that the festival is getting bigger and better and I'm really looking forward to the next one.''

• ANOUSHEY ASHRAF (VJ) ''I loved the way the place was done up! The Sattar Buksh, Churros and Lal's stall looked particularly cute. I loved the sandwiches at Fatso's, bun kebabs at Sattar Buksh and biryani from the White Biryani. I felt that this year was bigger and very well organised with some massive brands coming in. I just hope it doesn't become too commercial and remains as fun as it is today for all its years to come. It's a fantastic addition to Karachi's winter scene.''

• SAMRA MUSLIM (BLOGGER) ''This year my favourite stall was Fatsos

by Maha Jawed. I went all three days so ended up eating more than I could have ever imagined (Don't judge!). Here are some of the many things I tried: Pantry's burger & lemonade, Fatsos fritters, fries and sandwiches, Pane & Amore cannoli, Bond Street waffles, Flavours - pani Puri & chaat, Khao Dosa's Dosa, Marrakech - Zatar pizzas, Maison M's brownies, Desi Gali's chat & bun kebab, Saniya's Khao Suay, Spoonful's Nutella gol Gappa, Churros from Choc & Churros, Burns Road sajji, Chicken wings from Wingitt, Lals icecream macaroons, Pizza from Dominos, Nano's mini bun kebabs and White Biryani.''

the taste makers Karachi Eat Food Festival was back in town with a bang and we shopped till we literally dropped. Here's a round up of those dishes that left us wanting for more.

» PANE AND AMORE This year the Pane & Amore showed real dedication and innovation!

Popular dishes on their menu were the Cannoli, the divine fried cheese cake which was served with white chocolate and whipped cream and their churros which were fresh, warm and crisp generously coated with sugar and cinnamon and served with a chocolate sauce.

» MAISON M Maham Malik of Maison M delivered some delicious burgers and Mac and Cheese sandwiches.

We've been a big fan of her brownies for a really long time. We see a lot of potential in this company and hope for it to go high places real soon.

» BOND STREET WAFFLES This stall was new to the festival and after lusting over pictures we decided to dig in. They offered nutella and white chocolate ganache as toppings! Though the waffles were quite good and sweet we wish they were crispier and easier to cut. One certainly cannot eat the whole thing!

» BREAST AND LOIN Another new kid on the block, Breast and Loin did not fail to impress. Offering steak and cheese sandwiches, chicken sandwiches and chocolate chiffon brownies, it was a one-stop shop. We opted for the steak and cheese option and it was quite a delight. Watch out for Breast and Loin to soon becoming a cult classic on a night out.

» FATSO The Fatso grilled cheese short rib sandwiches were all the rave at Karachi Eat this year.

With numerous reviews on blogs and social media, we knew this was a must-have on our list. Our verdict: the sandwiches were comfort food at its best. The bread was perfectly crisp with that slightly burnt toast aftertaste and the short rib with cheese and green chilli mayo literally melted in your mouth from the very first bite.

» BURNS ROAD The Burns Road stall was an absolute delight as it really brought the best of street food to the festival. From barbecue dhaaga kebabs and Sajji to yummy traditional Biryani, Bun Kebab and the good old Kulfi!!

» LALS Lals introduced a new dish this year which was their new ice-cream filled macaroons and we could not get enough. It was perfectly textured and the ice cream wasn't a melted mess. We do wish the macaroons were the gourmet large sized ones because there was no way just one would ever be enough of this heavenly goodness.

» DESI GALI This stall is what Karachi eat festival is all about - delicious Pakistani tidbits to feast on.

Offering two types of chaats and different versions of bun kebabs, Desi Gali caused quite a stir. We tried the palak chaat something we had never heard of before but now will forever be imprinted in our minds. The crispy palak leaves with a mix of sweet and salty chutnis was a perfect mix! The bun kebabs were great in the flavour department but perhaps the star of the show was the tamarind chutney offered as a condiment with the bun kebabs » WINGITT IIt was about time that we got a place that only concentrated on fresh saucy hot wings. The wingitt wings were served hot off the grill and offered in a variety of flavours. Our favourite has to be the extra hot buffalo wings but the honey wings and wasabi wings were also quite popular at the stall.

» SANIYA'S KITCHEN Who doesn't love a warm bowl of khao suey? Saniya's Kitchen made a remarkable comeback this year. This dish was bursting with rich flavour and was served old school style with Slims chilli chips.
