coke studio for the
deaf!
Preceding the launch of Coke Studio Season 9, Pakistan’s biggest music platform, Coca-Cola Pakistan has created a unique music experience for the Deaf Community of Pakistan. Innovative technology combined with the platform’s philosophy of inclusivity, Coke Studio for the Deaf enables people with little or no hearing ability to get the basic experience of music.
How and when did the Coke studio for Deaf project come about? We believe music is a feeling, everyone should experience. Based on this, we tried to see how we can reach even more people. According to a research, there are an estimated 9 million hearing impaired people in Pakistan, who have not experienced the magic of Coke Studio. This gave us an idea that wouldn’t it be just great if the hearing impaired people in Pakistan could somehow enjoy Coke Studio music as well, just like the rest of us do. This set off a long and dedicated effort to find a solution, and we are pleased to finally found a solution to this – a system that gives a real sound experience to the hearing impaired – Coke Studio for the Deaf. We would like to thank Sarmad Khoosat for directing such a great project and to finally make it happen! What is the idea behind Coke Studio for the Deaf and what is it looking to achieve? At the heart of the special, studio-like set-up for the hearing impaired to feel and enjoy the music of Coke Studio, is a special sofa or couch embedded with LED lights whose colour changes with the sound of the song being played. The sofa is also covered with a vibration mat delivering different levels of vibration in sync with the music. A LED screen in front of the sofa displays the video playback, with LED lights installation on each side of the screen panel. Another LED light installation hangs from the roof, with props like guitars on stands, a drum kit and a keyboard on a stand adding to the overall ambience. coke studio is for everyone. the experience is not only unique but also very personal and that’s exactly what coke studio for deaf aims at. What is music for a person who can't hear? The experience deaf people have when ‘feeling’ music is similar to the experience other people have when hearing music. The perception of the musical vibrations by the deaf is likely every bit as real as the equivalent sounds, since they are ultimately processed in the same part of the brain. Is this a onetime project or will we see future collaborations between Coke studio and other institutions for the deaf community too? This was of course our first attempt. We are trying our best to bring the entire experience to Pakistan in the near future, and are very hopeful that this will happen for the years to come. 26

How to ace a Flawless Pout here are a few things you need to keep in mind for a flawless and long lasting pout:

BY ZARA GUL
exfoliate:
Before applying lip colour always exfoliate your lips to remove all the deadskin. Apply Vaseline or a lip scrub and gently rub with a cutip or a tissue to remove the unwanted skin.
lip liner:
To add intensity to the lip colour always apply the lip liner of similar shade on your on your lips. This makes your lipstick last longer and also creates a good base for the lip colour.
application:
Always apply lipstick in thin layers. Use a brush or your fingers to dab it in and then build up for a long lasting effect.
blot:
Always blot your lips in between applications by pressing the tissue onto your lips. Do not put the tissue in between your lips and press as that makes the lipstick wear off unevenly.
highlight:
Applying highlighter before lipstick on the cupids bow enhances the lips. For a more defined finish always use a concealer with a brush around your lips.
matte or glossy finish:
For a more velvety finish hold a tissue on your lips and dust some loose powder over it , this will give a very fine velvety matte finish. To add some drama, dab some lip balm on the centre of your lips and add some highlighter on the centre of your lips. This will add dimension and make your lips look fuller and brighter. Don’t forget to Blot!

I chose chundari for my mehndi because I wanted to go for something traditional and vibrant. The designer I chose was Seemeen Jamod because she's known for her chundari. I loved the colours on my dupatta and it really stood out when I was dancing away on the dance floor. The colours came out really well in the pictures and videos that were done by K Bridals. I made my outfit more traditional by wearing gold jhumkas and a gold matha pati. My hair was done up in a braid and my makeup wasn't too heavy since I already had a lot going with the matha pati. My hair and makeup was done at Shamain, whom I 100% recommend to all brides.

My baraat outfit was from Bunto Kazmi. I chose her because she is a legend when it comes to bridal outfits. I didn't go for a red outfit because I was super traditional on my mehndi so wanted to try something different, so I went for peach and mint. Those colours were perfect for me because they looked well with my complexion. My jewellery was all polki. My hair and makeup was again done by Shamain. Shamain is a brilliant makeup artist, she took her time figuring out what I wanted and spoke about each and everything as she did my makeup. She gave me a bronze smokey eye with subtle lips which turned out amazing and flawless.

My valima outfit was from Sana Safinaz. I chose them because they make beautiful bridal outfits. The colours of my outfit were Ivory and silver with hints of baby pink. My jewellery was diamonds and rubies which looked absolutely perfect with the outfit. My outfit had an extremely long trail and if I'm being honest I truly felt like Cinderella in that outfit. My hair and makeup again was done by Shamain. My hair was done up in a low bun, and my makeup was smokey eyes (which was mostly dark green, brilliant!) and light pink lips. The makeup really complimented my outfit. All my wedding portraits were done by the amazing photographer Altamash Urooj.

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? Australia (Sydney, Blue Mountains, Carins, Port Douglas & Hayman Island) because of all these places are famous for their scenic beauty e.g. Sydney harbor being a natural harbor with meandering waterways, Manly beach being one of the most popular suburban beach amongst many other beaches in Sydney, Blue Mountains being a rugged mountainous region with its dramatic scenery, Barron river for its white water rafting, Great Barrier Reef for being one of the seven wonders of the natural world and the largest coral reef system and last but must importantly Hayman Island for its beautiful state of art resort.

Who did you travel with? My kids, Parisheh James & Turhan James. Where did you stay? Four Seasons Sydney, Karmoy, Hayman Island Luxury Resorts & Port Douglas. What are the best shopping spots there? This was not a shopping trip. I literally bought only one souvenir. Suggest some amazing restaurants

On Monday, you are a turtle entirely uncomfortable with the idea of sunlight, and Tuesday is a stay-inside-your-shell kind of day, too. It won't be until midweek that you'll be ready for the outside world, although then you'll be ready with a vengeance. Wednesday and Thursday see you marching boldly forward, introducing yourself to strangers, putting foreign foods into your gullet, and being generally pioneering. On Friday and Saturday you have to slow down a bit for career reasons (you can't come across as too hasty in that realm right now), but Sunday you'll stretch your legs again.
You wish you could take things lightly on Monday and Tuesday but that just isn't your personality right now. Everything is significant. Emotions are intense. You may feel a surge of jealousy over something it's ridiculous to be jealous about. Wednesday and Thursday, practice not coming across as righteous -- and not feeling righteous. Modesty should be your modus operandi. Don't take your friends for granted; remind them how much they mean to you. By Friday you'll be feeling more comfortable in your own skin (and in your social standing) and this comfort will last into the weekend.
Health is at the top of your mind on Monday. The slightest hint of a symptom sends you searching the Internet for information about what may be going on. Little may be going on at all; but interest in your well-being is, you know, a healthy interest. Tuesday you're observant of your body as well as other areas; you are a detective. Wednesday and Thursday see you probing deeply. Friday, unfortunately, is a day of more questions than answers and Saturday yields little in the way of new discoveries, but on Sunday someone says something that suddenly makes a week's worth of clues come together.
The ship is rocking and heaving and throwing you all around. You're in no position to sit down and sign something -- your signature would just slide off the page. This is what Monday and Tuesday are like. By Wednesday, the ship will have steadied a bit, but rather than be overly ambitious, you should invest your energy in yourself, do something self-nurturing. The idea of being social isn't very appealing on Thursday, and Friday and Saturday are stay-at-home days as well. In dealing with others on Sunday, be as flexible as possible.

To figure out what's going on in the garden, sometimes you have to uproot everything and take a look at the soil. Monday and Tuesday, the situation below the surface is finally getting some of your attention. Sound boring? Perhaps. But Wednesday and Thursday are the exact opposite of boring -- they are fiery, fun, cruising-down-the-highway-with-the-topdown sort of days, full of romance and exciting roadside distractions. Friday and Saturday, your enthusiasm hasn't let up a bit, and Sunday is about you and youknow-who. (Some advice: Don't cling.)
Your restlessness on Monday and Tuesday is useful. It's due to an unquenchable intellectual curiosity, and intellectual curiosity -- obviously -- is what has led to the advances that the modern world is built on in terms of science, philosophy and the arts. You're a genius! Sadly, some forces (probably in the family realm) are going to prevent you from making good on your genius Wednesday and Thursday, but Friday and Saturday are open to your creative whims. And Sunday, an experimental mood guides your day, so be open to anything.
Money makes the world go 'round, they say, and it's certainly all you can think about on Monday and Tuesday. Not that you're thinking like a greedy person, you're just thinking. What are things worth? What do you want to do with your money? These questions deserve as much consideration as you're willing to invest in them -- maybe a conversation along these lines would interest a friend on Wednesday or Thursday. Friday and Saturday find you a bit down about something in your past, but a jolt of romance on Sunday brings you very much back to the present.
Rebirth and regeneration are key themes at the beginning of the week. The old things are being replaced by new ones. You feel more connected to your friends and they feel more connected to you, as will be obvious on Wednesday and, well, every day after that this week. You find yourself doing things you wouldn't normally do on your own on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday everyone you know is simply in a great mood -- these are rare, wonderful times. Problems at home or with your family might arise Sunday, be open-minded.

It's okay to be moody on Monday and Tuesday. Try not to be moody around other people, if you can help it, but don't beat yourself up for your feelings. And besides, by Wednesday, everything will go on the upswing and stay that way. Thursday will be a jovial day, too. Bringing your lunch to work on Friday is a smart idea -- as the week winds to a close, strategies for financial shrewdness figure into your thoughts -- and Saturday, even though you want to go shopping, not doing so is a much better plan. Communication and creativity define Sunday.
You have a decision to make on Monday or Tuesday, and you have tons of friends who can help you make it. Rely on them more than you usually might (after all, you've surrounded yourself with smart people; they know of what they speak). Certain things might not seem possible on Wednesday or Thursday, but they are possible -- so long as you persevere and don't opt out (emotionally) too early on. On the other hand, keep your emotions in check and as separate as possible from tasks at hand. Friday and Saturday are truly wonderful days, and Sunday finds you babbling excitedly about the future.
The thoughts you have about your career at the start of the week are good thoughts to be having, healthy thoughts to be having. You are an ambitious, goal-oriented person, and while this sometimes produces stress in your life, in the long run, you will have something to show for it. Try to relieve some of this stress on Wednesday or Thursday with a social activity, or better yet several social activities. Friday and Saturday will return you to the business of keeping your head down and getting things done. But Sunday? You haven't felt more brilliant (or more attractive) in a while.
You are swimming in cloudy waters on Monday and Tuesday, and some of the fish nearby are starting to appear suspiciously more like sharks. Are they sharks? Do they have your best interests at heart? No sense in getting paranoid but pay attention this week -- especially on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday has you so surrounded by friends that there's very little chance anyone would be able to sneak up on you, and Saturday (an easy day) and Sunday (an intellectually stimulating day) offer a lot in the way of pleasure.
