ABOUT ME:

Ahmed Sarym If you could go back in history and meet someone who would it be?

What is your style mantra?

Quaid-e-Azam

All denim.

What is a superpower you wish you had? Being invisible. I’d find out what people say about me behind my back.

Who are your real life heroes? Oprah, Mariam Mukhtar and Edhi Sahab. What first drew you towards journalism? I think I’ve had this in my blood. My ancestors have been very interested in showbiz and entertainment so I had a deep interest too. I’m really interested in knowing people who intrigue me as a person, not only as a journalist. I tend to want to get to know people who we think are stars. Also I was always into writing in school competitions and stuff. At 9 I wrote a short story book, that I launched in my family and my family bought it. From thereon I knew I had to right and get it out somewhere. My father suggested starting a facebook page and getting the name and direction was all up to me and it’s going pretty well. Alhumdulillah. Where do you derive your inspiration from? My father has been my support throughout and I’m inspired by how he’s managed to balance personal and professional and encouraged his children. In the industry I’m inspired by Iman Ali. She’s a great friend, she’s somebody who has really encouraged me and is a person I’d always like to speak to. The way she sets her priorities really inspires me. She doesn’t get carried away by the glam of showbiz and manages her family life really well. What was your family’s reaction to you starting work in the showbiz at such a young age? My parents were very supportive. My grandfather especially absolutely loves the way people admire me. Whoever he meets, he blows my trumpet in front of them. 26

PAPERAZZI MAGAZINE

2016

He really means it and he understands my work. Even though he isn’t up to date with technology, he has a keen interest in my work. My extended family wasn’t too excited for what I was doing. How much has your family’s support helped you in your journey? To a point it has. If I wasn’t supported and encouraged I would have just stopped. Other than that it has all been myself because my family has no contacts in the fashion and entertainment industry. My grandfather worked in radio so he didn’t have contacts in cinema and TV. I think to a point I’ll have to owe my progress to the celebrities I have interviewed. They were very encouraging. Who would you say has been your mentor? Samra Muslim, Nida Amin and Momin Ali Munshi and the list goes in. These are people I have worked with in the industry who have guided me. It’s a very cruel industry and their guidance helped a lot. What has been the proudest and most fulfilling moment in your career so far? My bollywood interviews, firstly, because bollywood is a phenomena. It’s a dream. You always want to meet these people who’ve won awards and you see on-screen. To speak to them for even 30 minutes is surreal. My most memorable one was interviewing Vidya Balan. Apart from that when I was hosting a fashion show for The Body Shop and got off the ramp, a young couple came up to get a picture with me and I was overwhelmed. Are you an avid reader? I love reading other publications and blogs. It really helps me to assess how I can make my style of writing better. How do you balance work and studies? I am managing well. I got straight A's in grade 8. It was a prerequisite for me to be able to work in journalism. I had to ensure my grades don't falter. I am not a sporty person. This is my only other extra-curricular. Where do you see yourself in 15 years? Still studying. I’ll do my C.S.S. and work in the foreign office and I want to make my country proud internationally. I want people from other countries to see a well-painted picture of Pakistan. What is the one question nobody asks you but you wish they did? Why are you so talented? What advice would you give to kids your age? Just focus more on what’s actually important. People my age are getting a bit too carried away with upcoming trends. Are there any upcoming projects that we should be excited for? I’m working on my web show. It took a back seat lately when I stopped freelancing and was contract bound. I’m relaunching my webshow now. It’ll be a vlog that’ll be released monthly with interesting chit chats from our favourite celebrities. I’m shooting the complete season right now. It’s called Fizzzzz with Sarym. The celebrity line up for this season Zeb Banagsh, Team Janaan, Agha Ali, Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan. 2016

Guilty pleasure? Watching fan-made videos of our cricketing legends on Youtube: Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar and ofcourse, Afridi! Oh, and online shopping! I've got to have anything that works with a USB port! On your playlist? I am a bit old-school when it comes to my music – classic rock from the 60’s and 70’s topped off with some early 90’s grunge. First thing you notice about the opposite sex? Inner beauty. On a serious note, her smile. It can move mountains, as they always do whenever I see my beautiful wife smile. Pet peeve? BO, people who complain and Ross Geller! Which celebrity has you star struck? Monica Bellucci, Robert Plant, Ali Azmat and Wasim Akram If you could have any superpower? Time manipulation Biggest turn off? Dental hygiene, too much makeup, lying and Nickelback.

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? I was on my way to Greece in Europe, was supposed to meet up with friends to celebrate a special birthday party! Instead I went to Rome, Italy for a shoot and travelogue for Destinations magazine. Tell us about the sights no one should miss out on The Trevi Fountain is mesmerizing, the color of the water, it’s just this beautiful shade of lucid aqua. The lights truly capture your attention it’s like poetry in motion. Suggest places for a perfect night out Well I was busy with my shoot during the day, by night I was quite ready to hit my bed so for me walking through the city at night, taking in the sights and sounds and looking at the lights takes calmness to a whole new level. What can you do over there to relax and unwind? Sitting at a roadside cafÊ and indulging in a warm croissant and a frothy cappuccino later take a break from sight-seeing and enjoy the wonders of the Trevi Fountain.

Monday is a great day -- on the romance front, at home, out in the world, in every realm. You are unstoppable. Creativity and healthy competition keep you on your toes. Tuesday and Wednesday are less ideal -- mundane responsibilities and conflicts between friends threaten to drive you nuts -- but Thursday and Friday you're back in the game and better than ever. Figure out the most important person in your life and lavish them with attention. The weekend won't exactly be fast-paced, but the most beautiful things in life take a while to grow.

Monday sees you settling a dispute between two of your friends -- not the most fun thing in the world. But Tuesday is appropriately romantic and fun. The affection, the feeling of lightness, the sudden abundance of beauty all around you -- all this lasts through the rest of the week. The work you have to do on Thursday is so much more palatable when love is in the back of your mind, and Saturday's intensity only demonstrates how deeply you both feel about one another. On Sunday, be careful of overreacting.

After a light debate with a friend, you feel stimulated and on your toes. This is a good place for you to be at the start of this week. Engage as many friends as you can in conversations that are more than just idle time killers. Practice your communication skills; you'll need them Wednesday, when an interaction with a family member will prove difficult. Thursday and Friday are more purely enjoyable -- and if you're single, a romantic prospect might present itself. A new project! Just what you need to occupy your hungry mind this weekend.

leo

virgo

libra

You don't need to settle. Whether the matter is financial or professional or romantic, you can afford to hold out for better. You deserve it. You go into the week with confidence, which is what makes everything go your way Tuesday and Wednesday. Also, you're not afraid to do what you need to do to be happy. Cleaning up around the house Thursday is the surest path toward contentment and Friday you should do something actively self-improving as well. Saturday and Sunday, you are crippled by options -so many decisions. Don't get involved with anything (or anyone) you are unsure of.

Check you out! You are on top of the world. The magnificence and warmth of Monday are evidence that you're on the right track. Use this positive reinforcement to propel you to still greater heights. Tuesday and Wednesday, put your mind on money matters, as some reassessment may be in order. Thursday and Friday, shove that stack of bills aside and go out and do something with friends. Or have them over for an impromptu party. Romance rears its unpredictable head Friday -- a happy, welcome surprise. Let your intuition guide you into the weekend.

You know the drill. The more crazy things get, the more flexible you have to become -- otherwise you'll snap. And no one wants that. Your seeming nonchalance pays off as soon as Tuesday. It's like you were born to juggle, you make it look so easy. Wednesday is a good time to start a new project and Thursday is right for making a big purchase with a partner. Friday, a bout of indecisiveness sets you back a bit, but over the weekend you'll take stock of your goals and by Sunday have a clearer plan.

A bunch of questioning faces turn toward you on Monday, as if you have the answers. (You have many of the answers, but you don't have all of them -- make sure everyone knows that. Still, they see you as a leader, and that's totally flattering.) Tuesday and Wednesday, do the best you can do with the resources you have, and make sure everyone's getting along. Relationships are key right now -- and relationships of another kind, the love kind, figure in on Thursday and Friday. This weekend, a business-related question occupies your mental energy. Selfish? A bit. Unhealthily so? Not at all.

Work is a bit of an obstacle course on Monday. If you were thinking of asking for a raise, Monday isn't the day to bring it up. If a coworker has steam pouring out of his or her ears, stay out of the way. Tuesday and Wednesday are good days on almost every level. You're feeling especially close to a friend right now. This is the person you should go to on Thursday for help making a decision. The two of you will spend the second half of the week tossing ideas back and forth. Your patience is incredible, and it impresses others this weekend.

sagittarius capricorn 23November/21December

Any traveling you do on Monday will be a grand experience. If you're flying somewhere, you might get unexpectedly upgraded to first class. If you're staying in town, the good luck will come in other forms, but it will come, and you should be prepared for a boost in optimism. Midweek, the worst thing you'll face is an authority figure in a cranky mood. The end of the week, you're drowning in social plans. You laugh hard enough on Friday to equal a workout, but on Saturday and Sunday, you'll be in the mood to spend some time alone with your imagination.

Resources are tight on Monday, and no one's in the mood to share. Needless to say, Monday isn't a banner day. But Tuesday, an unexpected phone call from a long-distance friend changes your whole attitude, and a breakthrough on Wednesday allows you to achieve a whole lot in a single afternoon. You'll try to build on these achievements Thursday and Friday, but your energy will be off. Or maybe it's everyone else's energy that's off? In any case, you're all on the same page again by this weekend. And you've never felt more prepared for the future.

Sometimes the most improbable experiments lead to the most extraordinary discoveries; the history of science has borne this out, but the principle applies equally to social experiments. Monday sees you trying new things in your relationships with other people. Tuesday and Wednesday, you are still trying to get a handle on what these people may want from you, but by Thursday your interactions are a lot more intuitive and comfortable. Friday is a fun, frivolous day, but Saturday and Sunday your head is swimming with deep thoughts.

Your imagination tends toward the fantasy realm on Monday, but there are some very real (and no less fascinating) storylines unfolding right before your eyes. Rather than being critical of a friend on Tuesday or Wednesday, consider how you might be able to help them. You have a yen to clean on Thursday, and tidying up the house gets you in the mood to tidy up other aspects of your life as well. If someone owes you some money, remind them on Friday. Saturday and Sunday -- although you're feeling practical -- aren't good days to sign paperwork.
