What clientele do you keep in mind while designing?

The aesthetic behind our designs is always something that we’d love for our own homes. Having said that, we’ve seen our wide range of clients (from children to adults) is basically anyone looking to add some color and originality to their personal spaces.

Any tough moments in bringing Curio Home together?

Any? Lots! The biggest though has been with one of our finishing materials, which is used to waterproof our products. It’s not widely available, nor is it used much in the local industry.

We’ve had to learn through tedious trial and error. It feels like we’re still learning really!

What’s your best moment for Curio Home?

Receiving such a positive response from the outset has been amazing. It keeps us going and motivates us to do more.

Tell us how Curio Home came into existence and how it has evolved?

One of our grandmothers, an artist from Colombia, sent us a table that she had handcrafted specifically for us. We absolutely loved it and that’s what basically inspired us to explore how we could bring that style of art to Pakistan. That led to our first creation, our signature tripod table, which can also be used as wall art. We’re very much a small, modern start-up and have a very long way to go.

At what point and how did the two of you decide to collaborate together?

We’ve been best friends for ages now (since kindergarten to be exact) so it’s safe to assume we’ve bounced thousands of crazy ideas off of each other over the years. Our young adult life saw us attain degrees and experience in visual arts and architecture. So one summer night not too long ago we decided to actually work together and come up with something different. Haven’t looked back since!

Who handles what mainly for Curio Home?

Sometimes one of us ends up doing more organizational work while the other handles product finishing, but ultimately we both work on product design and most aspects and responsibilities are shared. Don’t forget, it’s just the two of us!

What inspires you mainly for your creations?

We seem to find inspiration in the everyday- a conversation with a friend, a walk outside on rainy day.

What comes first to you, the material or the design idea?

The design always comes first. Materials we figure out later.

You have put up time-lapse videos of you creating your pieces. What part of the process excites you the most?

Seeing the design come to life during the finishing process, which is when our products begin to look like the vibrant pieces they are, is the most satisfying part of all. However, just the whole process of putting everything together from inspiration, to brainstorming, to development, and ultimately finishing, gives us a huge sense of accomplishment.

What’s in your upcoming plans?

We’re looking to build on and expand our kids’ line. Maybe take on some interior design projects specifically for nurseries.

We’re also continuously developing fun new products to add to our existing portfolio, while always staying true to our unique, quirky aesthetic.

It’s that time of the year again where the blessings are countless and I can smell peace in the air. However, it is also the month of battling between eating healthy and devouring all the parathas, pakoras, doodh seviyaan, and all the fatty food that one could imagine to get their hands on. It is a dilemma, to see such an amazing spread of food on the dining table and your mind telling you, instead, to have that boring slice of dry brown toast with an oil-free boring omelette. But hey! Who said that our sehris and aftaris have to be boring without all that oily and fattening food? Since the Ramzan of 2014, I have adhered to an eating pattern that has allowed me to gobble down the most delicious and wholesome meals at Sehri and feel satiated the whole of next day.

Sehri is a more important meal than iftar as your body needs to be prepared for the long hours of absolutely no food and drink. For years, we have done the opposite of what should ideally be done. Oily foods and refined starches are a big no-no during this meal and should be well avoided. It is important that this meal should consist of nourishing and slow-digesting foods that may allow us to thrive and keep providing us with energy throughout the day, when the scorching sun is on our heads. I have been incorporating, greek yogurt, nuts and legumes, chia seeds and wholegrain cereals especially into my sehri meal, as they are the greatest example of slow-digesting food. Lately, I have found the perfect mix for homemade granola with dried cranberries, dried blueberries, goji berries, almonds, cashews, dates, raisins, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, sun36

flower seeds, sesame seeds chia seeds and rolled oats.

BY AROOBA RIZWAN this granola tastes like heaven. I accompany this with some lean protein such as scrambled eggs or a funky omelette stuffed with low fat cheese, mushrooms, olives, sausage, or even a dash of sun-dried tomatoes, and spinach.

Sometimes I replace this choice of meal with a slice or two of multi-grain bread, topped with peanut butter and bananas.

If I'm craving for something more desi, I'd opt for a wholewheat roti, with some sautéed bell peppers and onions, and some marinated grilled chicken with a drizzle of honey mustard sauce and make it into a roll. I end my meals with almond milk mostly. As for hydration, it is important to hydrate yourself not all at once. I still remember how I used to down five glasses of water right before the azan and used to end up feeling queasy and nauseous.

The correct way to hydrate yourself is to have two glasses at aftari, four glasses till sehri time approaches, and then two glasses at sehri time. Avoid caffeinated drinks such as tea or coffee as they cause dehydration.

Here’s to hoping your energy and spirituality levels are up this month! This time is the perfect time to switch to a healthier lifestyle, to cleanse your body and soul, and find peace, as fasting truly teaches self-restraint and patience. Happy Ramadan everyone!

Did mostly souvenir shopping from the local markets but some good designer shopping at Champ ElysĂŠe.

Suggest some amazing restaurants there?

Gare Du Nord has a host a of Halal restaurants and Indian/Pakistani places as well. There are tiny cafes all around Paris and all seem to be popular as most are full and open till late. The food from the street vendors is very decent as well.

Tell us about the sights no one should miss out on?

The Eiffel tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc Dear Troimphe, Serine River cruise, not a spot but should experience the Metro and Champs ElysĂŠes Suggest places for a perfect night out.
