UP, CLOSE & PERSONAL WITH MAHNOOR KHAN

Mahnoor Khan is Pakistan’s promising actress and alongside that, a trained classical singer with a marvelous voice. She started off her singing career in 2016 and acting career in 2018, working in dramas like ‘Sanwari’ and ‘Tum Mujrim Ho’. Currently she is working on projects and tracks that will be revealing soon.

» Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My life style is very simple. I always wanted to be a doctor but when I did my FSC I realized it’s not my cup of tea. I am an extremely organized and disciplined person. My personal and professional life never gets mixed up. » How did you get into singing, and how did you change that passion into working on set and starting to act?

I always used to perform in college and from there I started singing. I started acting only 6-8 months back. I went to a channel for some music audition but instead they offered me an acting opportunity. » Was that a difficult career shift for you?

I faced issues from my family, since my father is really strict he never wanted me to act. It took almost 2 years to convince him but finally he did and by passage of time, things got better. Yes it was not easy but now I have my family by my side. » What is one thing about your current career that you didn’t anticipate when you were younger?

When I started my career as a singer I didn’t know one has to put in so much effort. I always believed it’s something god gifted but there’s a lot of practice and effort that goes into it. » Who has been your biggest influence?

Atif Aslam. » What would you say is the most exciting part of your job?

Everything is exciting because what I do is my passion. » What does your typical day look like?

I have very busy schedule usually, I have music classes, shoots, and work related to singing. I take out some time for my family which is again really important and then some me time which is my favorite part of the day. » Tell us about any challenges you have come across since you first started your career.

When I entered in this field there was a lot of negativity around me from my friends and family because they could see the negative aspects of the media industry. I had to prove that the media field is not as bad as it looks and it depends on the person only. I had to cross all the negativity and negative people to reach where I am.

» Are you working on any exciting new projects currently?

I’m working on a few projects for different channels I cannot disclose the details right now. But Insha’Allah we will start shooting after Eid. » Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Aiming for the sky. » Do you have any other passions or talents?

Umm shopping! Apart from that I love travelling and spending time alone. » What are the three things you cannot live without?

Parents, peace and my work. » If you could give other artists advice about getting started in their career, what would you tell them?

Whoever wants to be a part of this industry please come with a lot of patience things will take time. Also try to choose the right direction for yourself and in order to achieve something don’t do any such thing which you regret later on.

Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted?

No, I didn't stumble upon my career at all, i always wanted to be an actor. Even at the age of 4 whenever i was asked what i wanted to be when i grow up i always said an "actor."

What was your “aha!” moment?

I think my aha moment was when I opened my eyes for the first time into this world, I believe I have always been a born performer. I did a commercial theatre play with a bunch of other students it was called “All is fair in Love and Marriage.” I think that is when I realized that I always wanted to act and be part of the media industry but being on stage and performing, the whole experience I think made me a 100 percent sure!

inspires you?

There are so many boss ladies that I look up to, Mother Teresa being on top of the list. My naani, my khaala, my mother, my mother in law, I also look up to Musharraf Hai, the head of L’Oréal I am so inspired by how hard she works and what a fabulous person she is. Fatima Jinnah is someone I really look up to, Hazrat Khadija, she was the ultimate boss lady at the end of the day. There are so many awesome women out there I can’t say I admire just one.

Describe a day in your life.

I wake up early to say my Fajar namaz, then Hassan wakes up so we spend some play time together, then I wake Hamza up, he gets ready for school. After that I get ready to go to my morning show, right after that I go to the gym. Sometimes I go before the show, sometimes after it.

Who has been the greatest inspiration in your life?

Usually after that I have a couple of meetings, I go check The biggest inspiration in my life has been life itself and on my team for my YouTube channel, afterwards I go to the people around me. My khaala, who holds the my restaurant, Shittake. I am in the process of family together & is a focused business women, opening my salon & fitness studio these days, "WHEN YOU my mother as a single mother who raised three so my days have been very crazy. What was time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it?

I had various moments when I felt discouraged, broken and I couldn’t go on but when I got divorced and I had Hamza who was only two months old, At that moment i was really clueless but then life fell in place and my family supported and pushed me to achieve my goals.

What was the best advice that your mentor gave you?

Honestly the best advice that I have ever been given is to not give up and to keep going, if things don’t work out once in a certain way try the same thing in a different way and try it again, again & again, until you finally succeed.

What are the top 3 things you cherish in your life?

My family, my friends and lastly I cherish my work collogues.

What is the #1 thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list?

I need to go sky diving and bungie jumping. I am terrified of heights but that is something that I really want to do.

What does nobody tell you about being the boss?

Once you become a boss, you basically have zero life of your own. You are either working or making time for family or friends.

Name one boss lady that you admire and how she still

Inspirational, phenomenal and invincible.

What did you learn from your biggest failure?

I think I learnt the most from my failures. When you succeed there aren't any major life lessons there but when you fail you know how to pick up the pieces get yourself back on your feet, revamp & resort out your thoughts and then restart.

Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with?

Honestly, I'm not particularly inspired by world leaders but I'd say it would definitely be the world leader of Canada, Justin Trudeau. He is a fabulous person who seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours?

I would just like to tell the young girls that do not give up.

When I started out in my career I remember my mother felt this might not turn out well for me, but I stuck to what I wanted to do & through that now i have my restaurant, my YouTube channel, my salon and fitness studio which is opening soon. I started a clothing line, it didn't work out, I made quite a loss with that but it taught me how to do things better and continue to keep going as I realized through that staying focused is the key and failure is not an option.

I always knew what I wanted to do, I’ve been sketching and constructing art pieces since I was very small.

If you got stuck in the elevator and was forced to listen to only one song, which would it be?

I am obsessed with John Mayer – So any song by him.

What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?Hamza Ibrahim My mum always told me to be financially independent and strong as that brings freedom and gives the woman the ability to live life on her own terms.

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our section, planes, trains & automobiles!

Where did you choose to go and why?

Croatia/Slovenia: Being a student means budgeting. So when you get the opportunity to explore Croatia and Slovenia for 4 days in around 200 Euros, why not right? My friends and I had a break between semesters and we thought it was the perfect opportunity for a girl’s trip!

Tell us about sites no one should miss out on?

Lake bled in Slovenia was beautiful with crystal clear water. If you are an adventure junkie, I definitely recommend it, because they have activities ranging from river rafting, kayaking, mountaineering and honestly what not. Plitvice Lakes in Croatia blew me away as well! The water was turquoise and clear and the water falls were amazing. The only downside was that we weren’t allowed to step in the water since its part of the UNESCO world heritage and they try to keep it as clean as possible.

Suggest places for a perfect night out?

I’m not too big on nightlife so I’d suggest finding a nice dinner place and enjoying a fancy meal with your friends and family instead.

What can you do over there to relax and unwind?

Take part in the adventurous activities, or just simply go for a walk to take in all the natural beauty.
