SNACKS LOW CARB

everyone is on a low-carb kick these days, be it paleo or keto. while there’s no denying the impressive health benefits associated with this way of eating, there aren’t a lot of snacking places that offer low-carb options. most of the common snacks we eat, chips, cookies and pretzels, are high in this nutrient. but low-carb doesn’t necessarily have to mean low-flavour. try some of these delicious & creative low-carb snacks that are super easy to make!

SPICY DEVILLED EGGS Devilled eggs are a great snack all year round and very easy to make!

6 eggs 1/4 cup mayonnaise 1 teaspoon white vinegar 1 teaspoon mustard 1/8 teaspoon salt Freshly ground black pepper Dash of hot sauce Paprika, for garnish

1. Place eggs in a saucepan, cover with water and bring to a boil.

2. Boil or 12-14 minutes and then remove from heat.

3. Once the eggs have cooled, completely, peel them and slice in half lengthwise.

4. Remove the yolk to a small bowl with a spoon and place the egg whites on a plate.

5. Mash the yolks with a fork and add the mayonnaise, mustard, hot sauce, vinegar, salt and pepper. Stir everything together 6. Using a spoon, add a portion of the devilled egg mixture back into the hole of each egg white.

7. Garnish with more hot sauce and a sprinkle of paprika.

ROASTED CAULIFLOWER HUMMUS A low-carb take on the classic Mediterranean dip that swaps out chickpeas for roasted cauliflower.

1 head cauliflower cut into florets 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil divided 1/3 cup tahini 1 clove garlic peeled juice of 2 lemons 1/2 - 1 teaspoon salt to taste

1. Preheat oven to 210C. 2. Toss cauliflower florets with 1 tablespoon olive oil and a pinch of salt. Roast on a baking tray until it is tender and caramelized, for about 20 minutes.

3. Cool completely.

4. Add roasted cauliflower, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and olive oil to food processor.

5. Process until mixture reaches hummus consistency. Taste and adjust seasonings. Add water, if needed.

TRAIL MIX An easy snack to enjoy on the go. It’s super crunchy and loaded with flavour.

1 cup Almonds ½ cup Sunflower seeds 1 cup Pistachios ½ cup Walnuts, broken up 1 teaspoon of Salt ½ teaspoon of Paprika ¼ teaspoon of Garlic Powder ¼ teaspoon of White Pepper 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil

1. Preheat oven to 180C. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

2. Add all the nuts and seeds to a large bowl.

3. Add the salt, spices, pepper and olive oil and mix well.

4. Spread the mixture evenly over the baking tray.

5. Bake for 15 minutes, stirring every 5minutes until the nuts are lightly browned and crunchy.

6. Leave to cool completely.

Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted?

I didn't really stumble upon this career of Permanent Makeup rather it was a planned move. I had been previously teaching in various schools, shifting place to place due to my husband's job. I always had a dream of pursuing a career in make-up since I was always creative at heart. I felt that, I could satisfy my desire for creativity with this particular career. And so it happened.

What was your “aha!” moment?

My trainings, inland and abroad, have always been very competitive. When I did my SMP and paramedical course from Biotouch Dubai, I was recognised as the best student amongst so many talented ladies. That really gave me a great confidence boost and a feeling of accomplishment. So yes, that was my aha moment.

Did you ever consider or experience a career change?

Yes, infact the career change from Elementary school teaching to Permanent Makeup artist/esthetician was the life changing moment for me. Not only because it has given me a great sense of achievement in life but the opportunity to pursue my dream.

When was time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it?

I had to see many hardships during the initial days of my business. I needed to get settled in Lahore, leaving my husband, since his job necessitated moving places, meaning thereby that I had to be the man of the house myself. Managing everything alone, business, kids, household stuff, made me feel stressed and overburdened at times. Those were the hardest times of my life. But thanks to Allah I stood firm and resolute. This steadfastness and belief in myself was rewarded by Allah in the form of giving me a repute and respect in my field.

Name one boss lady that you admire and how she still inspires you?

It's definitely Mariam Khwaja, she inspires me with her sheer creativity and aesthetic sense coupled with her hard-working nature that has lead to her success. A dear friend, I'm lucky to have her on my side always willing to advise me when I need it.

What was the best advice that your mentor gave you?

Zhanna Aryngazina, my teacher at Biotouch USA has always been guiding me through the thicks and thins of this career. One thing that she said to me and that I've always found to be the best advice is that I should always listen to my client about their problem in detail and always put myself in their shoes when they approach me with a query or concern after any procedure done by me.

What are the top 3 things you cherish in your life?

Firstly, ofcourse, giving birth to two sweet kids. There is no bigger blessing in the world than being a mother to kids. Secondly, the love of my father, who gave me courage to face all odds through his training. And thirdly, my decision to pursue my dream career.

What is #1 thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list?

Going on a month long trip to Europe with my family.

What does nobody tell you about being the boss?

I guess handling clients with love and compassion isn't a part of any training or course related to professional fields. What I like the most about myself is that I consider my clients as my precious and valuable assets. A small act of humanly kindness with them makes them feel loved and they reciprocate you equally. I believe, for me, the financial gains aren't as important as the love and admiration of my clients that I receive in return of my kindness towards them. I can easily sacrifice my personal ease comfort and material benefit in order to satisfy my client and make them happy for choosing me. I guess, every business needs a boss who's more humane and kind towards their clients, because at the end of the day, we all earn money, but winning hearts is what really matters.

Describe a day in your life A typical day in my life starts with rising early as I've to make my kids ready for school. I drop them to school myself, lucky for me that it's not very far. Then I take a sneak peak at my schedule while having my breakfast where lots of consultations, follow-ups and new client are lined up for the day. Dr. OBT's clinic is not far away so that's a sigh of relief too. During all this work related routine, I can't forget to pay attention to my kids needs, feeding nourishing them and supervising their educational and recreational activities. So you can say a day in my life is quite hectic. But since, I love my profession, at the end of the day it gives me strength to follow this tiring routine and stay positive and energetic. So that's it, my usual day.

Someone who inspires others, not just makes them obey orders but makes then happily follow her through her thicks and thins to make their business a success. Making them feel a part of the family as a useful part of the business. Only then can it lead to a mutually beneficial relationship and successful business.

What did you learn from your biggest failure?

Never loose hope, that's the best lesson I've always learnt. Ups and downs are a part and parcel of life, God never gives up on his creation, He puts us through hardships just to check our dedication and commitment. So yes, my failures have taught me to stand firm and never worry more than necessary.

Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with?

Pervez Musharraf.

What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours?

Never ever to lose hope.
