The worst is when you go to the doctor's office and rush out of there, totally forgetting to ask all of the burning questions you were meant to ask. That’s why we contacted renowned dermatologist, Dr. Fehmida Arif, to get some help in the skincare department. We want to get the skinny on what to do when our skin breaks out, and how to keep our complexion completely flawless, always!

How many times a day should I be washing my face?

It depends upon the type of skin you have and your daily schedule. If you are not working and are staying at home, then wash your face twice a day. I would advise if you are going out, then

Exfoliate your skin once a week if you have combination or oily skin, especially in the summer. If you have dry skin then don’t exfoliate.

What are the main causes of acne?

Acne is a genetically determined skin ailment.

What is the biggest mistake a person can make with their skin?

The biggest mistake a person may make regarding their skin is buying products from the shelf without knowing what suits them.

What is the best sunscreen to use and what level of SPF should I be looking for?

I would advise 50 SPF for Pakistan type 4-5 skin.

How important is it to moisturize? Any products in the Pakistani market that you could recommend for this?

Moisturize your skin if it is needed. Its essential to moisturize when you have dry skin and it is also very necessary in the winter. Sometimes even in the summertime after washing you skin, it may feel as if its getting dry, that is when you need to moisturize.

Could my diet be affecting my skin?

Yes. Is there anything I should incorporate into my diet to help my skin?

Fresh fruits and vegetables.

Are laser treatments safe for my skin?

Laser Rx is safe or not, will be decided by dermatologist Any recommendations for at-home skincare routines that are a must to practice?

Cleansing, moisturizing and use of sun screen should all be practiced daily.

Why did you decide to become a fitness trainer?

Well I was an over weight teenager getting a suit made for my brother's wedding, and when it got to measuring my waist, it was 40! That's when my brother dragged me to a Mixed Martial Arts gym and signed me up. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be where I am right now, I owe it all to him.

Who has been your biggest inspiration and why?

If I come to think about it , it'd be my mom for sure. That woman's made of steel.

Imagine a client is discouraged during a training session. How do you keep that person motivated?

It depends on why the person is demotivated or discouraged, plus developing a trainer / trainee relationship is very crucial in keeping a client motivated.

How important is nutrition to you in creating a client's regimen?

Nutrition is everything. You are what you eat, I tell all my clients that half the work is done in the kitchen. 70% nutrition 30% diet.

If you weren’t a fitness trainer, what would you be doing right now?

Probably working a boring 9-5 job.

Which fitness trainer do you look up to and why?

There are many but if it comes down it to it there Bradley Martin and Athlean X. How do you keep your fitness training knowledge up to date?

There's really no such thing as keeping up to date, it's all science and schools of thoughts. You just learn to evolve with time and learn things you couldn't do before because you get stronger, older and wiser. Plus it's all trial and error, my fitness routine is pretty old school and seems to do the trick for me and my clients. It's not about fancy equipment and fad diets, it's all just consistency and hard work.

What’s your motto or the advice you live by?

"It's not about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward."

What kind of workout do you enjoy the most?

I lift serious weights and sometimes end it up with an intense kick boxing or HIIT session. And no I DO NOT DO CROSSFIT. EW.

Can you tell us about three essential exercises you suggest for all clients, and why?

• SQUATS • Push ups • Pull ups • Oh and SQUATS! What Kind Of discipline does a Fitness trainer require to remain successful in this field?

Well I have my hands full with running the business, training clients and keeping myself in prime shape , but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. Everyday is a grind.

Ten years from now you will be…

Life is too unpredictable to answer this question, a lot can change in a day, a lot can change in a year, life is spontaneous and it keeps changing. One day you're on the top,the other you're at the bottom. So I don't know where I'll be in 10 years, if I'm alive I'll probably grinding like I am now because I know I don't know how to quit. if I'm dead I'll probably be up there chilling with my older brother in heaven!

(If I get there lol) I’m actually fine either way.

Where did you choose to go and why?

I went to Turkey for a workshop because it's one of my favourite tourist destinations. I love Turkey’s dark blue sea, its pollutionfree environment and modern buildings, its mosques and the many amazing tourist attractions!

I also love their Turkish baths, so that's why I selected Turkey for my work. The workshop was only for one day, but I kept three days for my relaxation!

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our section, planes, trains & automobiles!

Tell us the most delicious meal you tried?

The most delicious meal I had in Turkey was at Nusret. They have a great steak burger; I really enjoyed it because I was not in the mood for eating a full, heavy steak, while the steak burger, which was amazing and out of the world, was very light. Nusret is a truly world-class restaurant and I tried it for the first time, and really liked it.

Tell us the most exciting thing you did during your trip?

The most exciting thing that I did on my trip was the Bosphorus River Cruise. It had great provincial and Sufi dances and songs, and was a lot of fun with amazing Turkish cuisine and Turkish delights that you wouldn't be able to try otherwise, because it was so very traditional.

Any tips?

Yes, many! When I went there I had thought it wouldn't be very cold but the last two days were freezing - it was minus 7 degrees C. I almost froze to death because I was not carrying enough warm clothes, so no matter when you visit Turkey, be prepared for cold weather, even if it is not predicted!
