“Christmas is usually celebrated with friends and family but what I do with my kids is that we make special gifts that includes clothes, shoes and food and distribute in areas where the kids might not have such privileges. This is what gives me happiness that we all get together to celebrate love and happiness around us.”

This is our utmost desire that we practice this type of faith in the country.”

Milk is one of the most consumed beverages in the world. However, up to 3 out of every 5 Pakistanis report varying degrees of lactose intolerance.

Lactose intolerance is the inability to break down a type of natural sugar called lactose which is found in dairy products. It has always been the vision of Dayfresh to bring value additions to Pakistani markets and as a company we also feel that it is our responsibility to introduce dairy products here at a cost-effective price. Abroad, there are a wide range of dairy products available. For instance, the market for Lactose Free products is quite well developed in foreign countries. But in Pakistan, you only have products like milk, yogurt, flavored milk etc. We would like to introduce value additions to the Pakistani market which are not available here at cost-effective rates.

Share an effective approach to working with a large amount of information on the Vitamin D and Calcium deficiencies in Pakistan.

Milk is the source of two vital nutrients: Calcium and Vitamin D. Vitamin D is crucial for the absorption of calcium in the body. 83% of women in Pakistan suffer from a Vitamin D deficiency, which increases the risk of osteoporosis, infections, depression and muscular pain. Consequently, Dayfresh Lactose Free Milk is a solution for people who previously who could not consume milk and thus, were vulnerable to several health issues.

Would you consider analyzing some common symptoms of lactase deficiency?

There are several symptoms of having a lactase deficiency. It usually causes gastrointestinal symptoms, such as gas, bloating, vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea, about 30 minutes to two hours after digesting milk or other dairy products containing lactose.

How do you ensure successful implementation and awareness of Dayfresh Lactose free milk?

According to research, more and more people in Pakistan are using the digital medium to acquire information. Consequently, Dayfresh is using this channel to create awareness about the product through informative posts, exciting visuals and articles in Dawn and Samaa. A digital video describing the symptoms and explaining the process of lactose intolerance will play a key part in creating awareness of Lactose Free Milk. In order to touch a larger audience, the brand has also been endorsed by several morning show hosts and featured in famous magazines. To educate retailers about Lactose Free Milk and to boost their confidence in the category, launch events were held in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Asad Kamran and my claim to apparent fame is a half decent aesthetic sense, and a critical sense of observation. I paint, and painting for me is a means of visualizing the world that exists in my mind, which is shaped by the world I live in.

When did you first get into art?

A long, long time ago. But truly painting became an honest acquaintance after life took some seri-

ous turns and pushed me to have a conversation with a canvas.

If you had not chosen to become an artist, what alternate career path would you have opted for?

I can’t say. I don’t even call myself an artist. I always say I paint, even though my Instagram handle says @asadkamran “Artist”. Hypocritical, maybe, however I think I’d like to be a Travel Journalist touring the Middle East and South Asia, covering real stories about real people.

ARCHITECT BY DAY, ARTIST BY NIGHT

Who has been your biggest influence?

My mom. She left this world a few years back but she is with me all the time.

What does your typical day/week look like?

A 9-6 day job at an architecture firm to keep things sane and orderly.

I read somewhere; ‘be boring and orderly with your life so you can be eccentric and crazy with your passion’. My nights are usually spent contemplating. I’m a recluse, it’s usually difficult to grab a hold of me.

An architecture major from the University of Edinburgh, Asad Kamran is a 24-year old budding artist from Karachi, Pakistan, who takes inspiration from the happenings of his life. Asad has focused on exploring the depths of the relationship shared between Art and Architecture. He has exhibited his work publicly on many occasions, and is currently working full-time at an architectural firm.

What, would you say, is the best/most exciting part of your job?

The eccentricity of my boss. Who has spent a good chunk of his life trying (successfully) to make Karachi a better place.

What, in your opinion, is your best piece of work?

Can’t say. I usually enjoy the work which others don’t, which is great because those pieces form a part of my personal collection.

What is your next project, anything you are currently working on?

These days I’m trying to translate a painting into something more meaningful than just itself. Understood, a painting evokes emotion, but can it have utility? That’s the question I have on my mind.

Tell us about any challenges you have come across, if any, since you first started your career.

Reaching a creative middle ground with people who may have a differing point of you. Because as I see it with design, there isn’t really a wrong answer, just different perspectives.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Showcasing work in New York and Bombay.

Do you have any other passions or talents?

I have a good sense of smell and taste. Does that count?

Is there any piece of advice you would like to give an aspiring artist?

Just own it man. Great things will happen if you just own yourself and your work.
