Did you stumble upon your career, or was it something that you always wanted? I definitely did not know I would find myself here. I always wanted to teach at some phase in my life, but more so I wanted to do something that meant something to me. With envrionmentalism as my primary goal, I happened to join Abida Mukhtar (Founder) for Inspiring Women when I came back from New York. What I thought would be short-lived, turned out to be one of my greatest commitments. Now we have come so far that we have launched our website, begun internship programmes and even expanded our workshops.
My family, my relationships and everything in between.
What was your “aha!” moment? When Chairman to Adventure Foundation Pakistan, Brigadier Jan Nadir Khan, especially wrote to me to commend an article I had written on reconnecting children to nature. It was truly humbling.
Name one boss lady that you admire and how she still inspires you? Abida of course! I don’t know how she is the way she is, but I aspire to be like her everyday. Another one is Principal Mrs Shah of Lahore Grammar School – that lady is a force to reckon with.
Did you ever consider or experience a career change? I have worked on many different projects since my return from my studies. So my career is always in flux. I segue between different projects as I do whatever interests me or I find meaningful, really. When was a time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it? There are always moments where you feel like “is this really worth it?” Changing mind sets is not easy and is probably THE most discouraging experience for an individual. Yet I notice small impacts I have made with those closest to me and that, for me, makes all the difference.
What is the one thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list? I don’t have a bucket list. However, (right now) I would like to volunteer in an elephant sanctuary in Thailand! What does nobody tell you about being the boss? There are so many unprofessional people out there and whom you have to work with. You have to know how to handle various individuals and situations.
CLICHÉ IN A CLICHED TIME, BUT LIFE DOES NOT STOP AT FAILURE. YOU TRUDGE ON AND ITS ALL OVER IN A BLINK.
What was the best advice that your mentor gave you? I have had many mentors. Steve my boss at Beaconhouse told me to follow my heart. Abida has always told me to take credit for something I have done and never be apologetic in the professional world. What are the top 3 things you cherish in your life?
Describe a day in your life. It is never consistent – depending on the day I shall teach, come home, do some work, spend time with my parents, attend any meetings I have set up and then take the evening to spend time with friends. Complete this sentence: To me, a #BossLady is…” Every woman out there who juggles work and family.
What did you learn from your biggest failure? Cliché in a cliched time, but life does not stop at failure. You trudge on and its all over in a blink. Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with? I’ll have to think on that. What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours? Society tends to dictate a lot, but you need to know it is all merely a construct. We are all individuals with varying capacities. You do you. Society has nothing to do with it.

m i z a K n u g g u j Why did you decide to become an actor/host? I always wanted to act, I was only four years old when I was asked what I wanted to be and I said an actor. However, Hosting is something I fell into when I was on a break from acting as I was carrying Hamza I was offered hosting. I hosted a few shows and it began from there. Industry decided that I was to become a host but I always wanted to be an actor. Who has been your biggest inspiration and why? People like Shabana Azmi , Meryl Streep , Kavi Khan Sahab. They really inspire me . I know they technically fall into the category of senior artists but the reason why they inspire me so much is that because at different stages in their life they have played different role and exceled and done well in all of them. Looking at Meryl Streep the amount of work she has done and the Oscars she has won really inspire me and these are the people I look up to. Their journey and hard work is the biggest Inspiration. Tell us about a time when you had to deal with an obsessive fan. What was the situation and how did you react? Lots of times I get calls and messages from random numbers and I also get approached on social media but the most frightening thing was the time when I had just started acting and this guy decided that he liked me and he wanted to get to know me .Although I made it very clear that I was not interested he still stalked me everywhere. I tried being polite and reasonable but when I saw his car parked outside my house a couple of times I had to call the police and file an FIR.

What is the funniest question that you have ever been asked in an interview? The funniest question to me is “Why are you so pretty”? Or “Why are you so beautiful”?. I find this question very odd and funny at the same time. I mean thankyou and it’s so kind of people to think that way but how am I supposed to know? And my reply always to that is I don’t know ask Allah mian . If you weren’t an actor/host what would you be doing right now? I would have definitely gone to a Culinary School and would have become a Chef. I love food, I enjoy eating it, I enjoy working with food and I find different cuisines from around the world really interesting. I would have opened my own restaurant. I am still opening up my restaurant but I would have loved to cook and cater.
Now its become second nature, One thing I make sure I do is I go through my script, I take a theme forward, I research on guests and get cues and clues and lastly I request for 2 or 3 mins of complete silence so I can concentrate and then read Durood sharif and start. What’s your motto or the advice you live by? The advice I live by is : Let and live by really . Turn the gaze within and stop criticizing other people focus on your own life. Work on improving your own life What is your favorite song to belt out at in the car? Like I do by David Guetta
Who is your role model? My role model is my own Khala – Rehana Sehgan, She is one of the most phenomenal people I know. She has been working her whole life. She has also been a very involved mother. She has contributed a lot to the society and helped numerous people. If I was to say that there is a perfect woman out there then it would be my khala . What is your creative process before your morning show? 10) What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you? I am very talkative so people presume that I love noise and halla gulla. Actually I much prefer silence over talking. Deep down I am quite the loner. Who has been your mentor in this industry and what would you like to say to them today? One person who mentored me and was really nice to me was Sultana Saddiqi. She still is very nice and kind. Today I would really like to say Thank you to her for being so kind and for helping me out. How do you manage to balance your home and professional life? It’s a question people ask me constantly , I honestly don’t know myself but I guess I just schedule everything and make lists and make sure I give time to home, my husband , my kids . It’s a balancing act. What are your future plans? I have a restaurant that just launched by the name of Shittake as in Shittake mushroom. I have a film in the pipe line. I have my youtube channel. A lot of things going on. I make a lot of plans but ultimately I leave it on Allah to decide 2018

ARIES (MAR. 21- APRIL 20) Keep it real, Aries. Tell yourself and romantic partners what your needs are, whether that’s more space, closeness, or both. Friday’s new moon inspires you to think optimistically. Is it time to travel, return to school, or contribute your creativity in a big way? Believe you can do it now, and so it will be.
SCORPIO (OCT. 24 - NOV. 22) Venus and Mercury are touring through your sign, Scorpio, making you the most articulate and magnetic of them all. Use this charisma and intelligence in service to your personal goals and helping others. The new moon on Friday asks you to set intentions for income and security—define what you need for success.
TAURUS (APR. 21- MAY 21) Let’s make it a win-win or no deal, Taurus. Venus and Mercury are inspiring you to find scenarios in which everyone’s happy. It’ll take your best compromising tactics, but the universe is on your side, so success is inevitable. The new moon on Friday asks you to let go of intimacy issues by letting yourself be vulnerable this weekend.
SAGITTARIUS (NOV. 23 -DEC. 21) Happy Birthday, Sagittarius! Is closure on your wish list? Something big’s coming this year, so make space for it first. Let go of the outdated things in your life that are blocking you from joy and relationship health. Friday’s new moon is in your sign! Be intentional and specific about all your dreams, and happy manifesting.
GEMINI (MAY 22-JUNE 21) Indulgent no more, Gemini! You’re thinking more responsibly about health and organization. Balance the holiday season’s decadence with efforts to maintain your wellness goals. Friday’s new moon wants to help your love story begin! Tell the universe your wish list for a current or future partner.
CAPRICORN (DEC 22.- JAN. 20) Try seeing your friendships as more romantic and your romances as more friendly, Capricorn—minimize the barriers between both. You’ll strengthen intimacy skills in non-intimate relationships. Friday’s new moon asks for you to define closure and to seek spirituality where you need it.
CANCER (JUNE 22-JULY 22) No need for the crab shell, Cancer. Let others see and hear you in all your beauty, intelligence, and imperfections. Perfectionism and control won’t serve you! Share the story of your heart. Friday’s new moon asks you to set health and wellness goals to help you sustain self-care and nutrition all year long.
AQUARIUS (JAN. 21.- FEB. 19) Ready for career lift-off, water-bearer? Professional success and your intelligence are coming to your aid. Friday’s new moon is in your friendship sector—let your social graces shine by spending the weekend reconnecting with friends!
LEO (JULY 23-AUG 22) It’s time to call up your loved ones and clean up any dramatic messes, so don't be afraid to have the uncomfortable conversations. The new moon on Friday wants you to release insecurities and crises of confidence. You’re a Queen, after all—believe it, and act like it!
PISCES (FEB. 20-MAR. 20) Bon voyage, Pisces! You want to explore new places and people who share your profound curiosity and optimism. You’re highly intuitional, so follow your instinct to where the universe wants you to travel—and with whom to explore. Friday’s new moon asks for your best-case scenario career dreams. Be brave as you define your wishes!
VIRGO (AUG. 23 -SEPT. 23) Ruled by brilliant Mercury, you’re a natural intellectual and communicator, Virgo. Apply your skills of verbal conversation, active listening, and curiosity to receive abundance from unexpected sources. Friday’s new moon wants to hear your intentions on home and family, so if it’s time for a move, make it happen! LIBRA (SEPT. 24 -OCT. 23) The financial crisis is behind you, Libra. You’ll be feeling secure about money as it begins circulating in your account again—but remember your worth is not dependent on your wealth. The new moon on Friday wants you to apply straight talk as a value and to stop worrying about pleasing everybody.
