» How did Cartel start? Jahanzaib: Initially we started as a small unit within our event management company (JBnJaws) for PR Support on our event projects but after realizing the potential and gaps, scaled it up to a full-service Digital PR Agency within 18 months. Soon we were working for one of the best Retail clients in Pakistan and are constantly adapting to the current PR trends. » What is your dream project? Ghazanfar: My dream project is one that I can plan on an incredibly high magnitude, something so massive and complex that it hits people with the intensity of a juggernaut, and makes them say, that that, was an exceptional campaign, and it was done in Pakistan!
up close & personal with
team cartel
» What’s in store in the next phase for Cartel? Kumail: Greater things! Cartel has had major reforms over the past few months, things are much more organized now, and we're constantly experimenting on uncharted avenues in Public Relations. The next phase is to introduce a value to true PR; it will give people a clear picture in order to comprehend, what is actually beneficial for their businesses. We're here to make a difference, not money. » How is the operational atmosphere? Kumail: In Cartel, one doesn't care much about the atmosphere as long as the work gets done! We chill, we gossip, we hangout. Everyone helps each other out. Some individuals are allowed to work from home if that doesn’t interfere in their productivity. » What aspect of the work do you dislike if any? Arooba: When there are multiple tasks to do. I function more efficiently when work is assigned to me and I can do it my way.
WE SPEAK TO THE FABULOUS TEAM ABOUT THEIR JOURNEY, SKILLS AND TEAM WORK!

» How has the journey of Cartel been so far and where does it see itself 5 years from now? Jahanzaib: We have had our shares of good and bad times (Mostly good though). We have won some important pitches and projects and worked on some iconic launches in Pakistan (the likes of VEON, Baskin Robbins, and Pepsi Generations etc.). The challenge is to constantly innovate and add more value for the client and come up with budget friendly solutions at the same time.
In future we are building synergies and taking new talent on-board and will be soon moving to a new bigger office. Eventually, we aim to be the top preferred choice for Corporate & Retail Clients for Contemporary PR Solutions. » So Momina, what’s your story? Momina: Just your everyday girl, extremely motivated, highly ambitious, and a whole lot of fun! I believe in living for the day and being realistic as life isn't a fairytale, if you lose your shoe at midnight ... you are drunk!! » Tell us about when things didn’t go the way you wanted- a project didn’t turn out as you had hoped? Ghazanfar: We've got a very capable group of young individuals who can and have tackled every situation that has arisen in the past. There have been times when I'd feel that something is not going according to plan when suddenly someone within the team would find the missing piece and put it all back together, and everything would gel perfectly. » What skills are most important to excel in this field? Ans: The most important aspect of doing anything is the drive to do it. Whether you're working to be an entrepreneur or a 9 to 5, passion and ambition are most important. JB and I had one thing in common, we were both equally passionate about advertising, which led to broadening our spectrums and cater
to different mediums that eventually contributed to advertising and marketing as a whole. » What is it that cartel does that differentiates them from others in the same domain? Momina: Like Cartels do, once we make an alliance, it's a family and we're bound to put our allies first! The most important thing is the relationships that we have with our clients, our ideology of work is to do things that make us proud of what we've done. » How are the timings like? Mahir: At the end of the day, it all comes down to the requirements of any given project. One can simply not let timings be a barrier to quality work. We may not be your regular 9 to 5, and sometimes exceedingly long hours are required of us, but in Cartel, we're made to feel like we serve a purpose; "client satisfaction" - makes it all worth it. » What would you like to say to our Paperazzi followers? In an age of Digital Media, each and every one has the responsibility of verifying information before sharing it among your circles of influence. On platforms where people absorb a lot of information, not all the information shared with you is complete. Believe something only after authenticating it, your words have more power than you think.

#paperazziaboutagirl IN THE FIELD WITH...
mariam mujahid PR EXECUTIVE
Who is your best friend? My best friend is Usman. And the best thing about us is that we don’t needs words to communicate when we see something funny or weird. The looks on our faces are enough. What would you grab if your house was on fire? My shoes. In terms of materialistic things I love nothing more than my shoes. What is your destination for the trip of your dreams? My dream destination would be Africa. A blend of nature, wildlife and culture. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grow up? And do you still want it? When I was little I wanted to be a doctor. I ran away from med school. But I still love the idea of being a doctor. Hence, I will have a doctor in front of my name after my PhD. (IA) If you got stuck in the elevator and was forced to listen to only one song, which would it be? Bleeding love and not just listen but sing it out loud as well. What is the best advice anyone has ever given you? My mother gave me the beat advice. She says be like a tree. The more fruitful the tree is the more it bends. So the more you achieve, the more humble you should become.

Suggest places for a perfect night out? We spent our evenings going to different places here and there. For perfect night outs where we would get nice fancy restaurants or cafes, we would visit Covent Garden’s, Knights bridge, Noting Hill, Westminster, St.james street, Mayfair, Soho and Leicester. These places are famous for having dinner and light-hearted conversations.

Any tips? Let’s start with the flight duration, it’s a long flight it would be better if you’d keep snacks, a neck pillow. Take a book along or a magazine. Pro Tip for London visitors: Always prepare for cold weather, have a jacket with you because the weather usually tends to get cold. There is a lot of walking in London so avoid heels.
