managing director of pakistan wedding show: How did you come up with the idea of PWS? The distinct wedding culture is deeply rooted within the Pakistani custom and traditions. Approximately 1.3 million couples wed every year, which breaks down to 3500 weddings a day, making it a multi-billion-rupee industry. There was no formal platform that brought consumer and wedding service providers together – hence the Pakistan Wedding Show.

What can we expect from the show?

The ultimate solution under one roof for the big day, providing convenience to the consumers at the same time an opportunity for wedding service providers to meet face-to-face with over 100,000 visitors each day.

How challenging was it to get so many brands and top designers under one roof?

Last year was very challenging as it was the first expo. Some of the brands and designers had participated in international expos had a clear idea as what to expect from the show but for most of them it was something new. We are aiming to do a bigger and a better show this year in order to enhance the experience of both the consumers and the exhibitors.

Did u stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted?

I got married at a very young age and had kids right away so my career wasn't exactly on my mind.

I always enjoyed designing my own clothes; people complimented & appreciated my creations and sense of style. A lot of friends & family encouraged me to design. At first I was reluctant but once I started, the sense of satisfaction achievement was amazing. In 2009 I had my first exhibition which was an absolute success, from then on there was no turning back.

What was your aha moment ?

When I saw my first shoot in a magazine, I realised that my passion and artistic vision for fashion designing should be my career.

Did you ever think about changing your career?

I never did, I absolutely love what I do, Alhamdolillah.

ticked off your bucket list?

Sky diving is one thing I want to do.

What does nobody tell you about being the boss?

Mastering the skill to handle the worst in the best possible way is the most important personality trait for one to be a good boss.

Name one boss lady that you admire?

Queen Elizabeth is one boss lady I admire. Her strength and wisdom inspires me. It's amazing how at a young age she managed such a great responsibility and till now she has handled it all with grace and dignity.

When was the last time you felt discouraged?

Alhamdolillah i haven’t experienced that as yet .May Allah bless me with wisdom and more talent to always give my best and to create more and more fabulous designs.

Describe a day in your life?

My normal day basically revolves around my work & family. From morning till late afternoon I am occupied with tasks at the office & studio, after that I'm busy with my kids. Since I live with my in-laws, after dinner I sit with them and discuss our day over a cup of green tea.

To me a Boss lady is : A woman with a vision, who is focused to achieve her goals in life with a strong and positive attitude! Someone who is not only good at business but is also a great homemaker and knows how to keep her family and friends happy.

What was the best advice your mentor gave you?

My mentor told me to always be positive and which world leader would u like to grateful towards everything in life. Gratitude have dinner with? reciprocates and positive attitude helps you find your Queen Elizabeth for sure. success. what advice would u give to young What are the top 3 things u cherish in girls? life If you focus on your dreams with positivity and My family, my work and my friends. gratitude, the universe will help you find your success.

behind the Camera the videograp hers How did the videographers come to life?

It honestly started out a joke. We were studying theater, TV and film at BNU. This is about 11 years ago, when a degree in filmmaking was a relatively new concept. Whenever we'd tell people what we were studying, we'd get strange and funny responses. One that stuck was, "filmmaking parh ker kya shaadi ki filmain banao gay?" Somehow the idea stuck and urged on by another professor of ours, we came up with The Videographers, sitting in our friend's room.

What is the inspiration behind the company?

A couple of things put together served as the inspiration.

Firstly, the cinematic landscape of Pakistan drastically needed a makeover. Thank God, our industry has come a long way since. Secondly, these was a growing demand within our youth for exciting content; be it wedding videos or branded or non-branded films. We not only wanted to be the supply but we wanted to do it with innovation and that’s what we've been striving to do.

Tell us about what exactly you do?

We initially tapped into the market with a view to change how weddings are covered in Pakistan. After introducing many new ideas in wedding coverage and making a name for ourselves we ventured into other areas. Along with event coverage, we now also do corporate films and in-house thought provoking content through TVGTV. Apart 50

from this, we also help brides with their wedding planning from the day they say yes to the day the event gets concluded; we offer services of assistance every step of the way with Ted Events.

Tell us about your team.

Our team of the most wonderfully creative and crazy people has now reached over 40! Even though we have a relatively young team, each and every one of them has their special brand of magic to contribute to all the work that we do. Immensely fun, energetic and creative. We are really looking forward to having the same strength for our Karachi office that recently opened to public.

What is your dream project?

To work on a film project - from beginning to end - with either Wes Anderson or Quentin Tarantino.

What is your brand philosophy?

It’s quite simple, really. To never stagnate and to keep inventing, innovating a having fun with work while at it!

What would you like to say to our followers?

To never give up on your dreams, no matter how crazy they are. It’s a struggle, but it’s so worth it when you achieve them!
