BUT FIRST, TEA Mariam R Mukaty is the founder of the famous tea brand TEAZURO. Architect by education and entrepreneur in nature, she is a force to be reckoned with!

Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted?

I always saw my future in architecture since i have a degree in it and have practiced it for the last five years. Hence, starting Teazuro, a specialty organic tea company, is definitely something I never planned from before.

What does nobody tell you about being the boss?

As the boss all the responsibilities, the decision-making is on you and you get no break.

What was your “aha!” moment?

After I quit my job, I was traveling and taking some time off and coincidently I met some Germans in Dubai who were tea traders. After a long discussion with them over dinner, sharing our passion for different teas, I realized we do not have "I had specialty tea options in Pakistan.

Did you ever consider or experience a career change?

Well, I did both! I was a practicing architect for the past five years and have worked in New York and in Karachi before I put that on hold to start Teazuro. Not sure if I will go back and start practicing again but for now I am focused on growing Teazuro.

When was the last time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it?

Starting Teazuro was extremely difficult for me. It required a lot of hard work, patience, time and money, a challenge I did not know I could overcome. I had no prior knowledge on imports, accounts, sourcing, logistical issues etc. and had to figure it all out on my own. It was tough to start, but once it all came together it was extremely rewarding.

Name on boss lady that you admire and how she still inspires you?

Of all the people who have inspired me, my best friend, Sheena ranks high up on the list. She is the owner of Karamel- the best cookies and no prior brownies in town! I admire and respect her for being incredibly dedicated and knowledge continue to learn from her on how to run a on imports, business.

Describe a day in your life My mornings start with a mug of Teazuro peppermint black tea or “skinny morning” while going through my mail and the news on my phone. After work I unplug and get some “me time” which I usually spend in front of the TV with my two cats, before dinner with my family or friends.

To me a #BossLady is a woman who takes control of her life. She is fierce and clear about what she wants.

What did you learn from your biggest failure?

Giving up is not an option and deal with the failure as a challenge.

What was the best advice that your mentor gave you?

One knows their business better than anyone else, take advice but always go with your gut feeling.

Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with?

It would be a dream to meet Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon.

What are the top 3 things you cherish in your life?

Family & true friendship, good health, the ability to travel and explore the world..

What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours?

You may not know the outcome or the possibilities until you take risks, even if it does not work the first time, do not give up!

What is #1 thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list?
