Who are some of your favorite musicians from the past and present?

Actually, they keep changing! I grew up listening to a lot of Pro-Jams. In Pearl Jam, I loved Eddie Vedder’s writings; his lyrics are incredible. Other than that, among the English musicians, George Michael is a big person whose music was always incredible plus the grooves were really fun. From this side of the world anything the R. D. Burman did is still a learning experience for me. A. R. Rahman is also amazing. However, in recent times I have discovered the music of DJ Nucleya.

Is there a particular song that never fails to move you emotionally?

It depends on my mood. The other day, I was listening to a song called Indifference by Pearl jam. It’s a very powerful song. From honesty in the lyrics to performance in the singing, this song has so many things that are just out of this world. In the desi realm, Maula Mere from movie Anwar, Sajan by Meekal Hassan, Tu Hi Re and Rabba Meray Haal Da Mehram Tu are some of my favorites.

What is your most valued material possession?

Well, I am a gadget guy. I love to get as many gadgets as possible. Even though, I would say my phone is the most valuable one because it allows me access to the world and I can constantly be working. But, recently I have purchased a virtual keyboard that I can travel with. It’s called the Sensel, I can do number of things with it and now it’s one of my favorite gadgets.

If you could blink your eyes and be in a favorite place right now, where would that place be?

This again depends on the current mood but my all-time favorite place is when I’m with my family. I enjoy every moment of my life with them.

How do you handle mistakes during a performance?

I think there is only one-way to handle a mistake; it’s to own it. You can’t hide it. I mean the audiences are very smart; you just can’t insult them by trying to hide your onstage mistakes. We are humans, so we can admit to making a mistake and then graciously move on.

What songs are on your playlist right now?

Well I'm constantly adding songs and updating my playlist. But, there is a song, I recently discovered called Love$ick by Mura Masa. I play it quite often. In the desi world, I keep adding new Bollywood tracks; anything fun that comes out. Recently, I revisited Zeb and Haniya’s album in which Chal Diye is a song which I can’t get enough of. I recently populated my playlist with some of my favorites from past Coke Studios as well.

Were you ever nervous to meet some musician?

Well, I’ve never been that type person who gets nervous meeting people. In general, I’ve been able to kind of con30

tain myself. If I meet somebody, I just try to keep it natural and polite.

Name one song that you just can’t stand?

This is interesting! Lately, there is a song that Coldplay did with the ChainSmokers. Most people love it but I can’t stand it. It is such a sellout because of big names and money behind it, but trust me the song is so formulaic and horrible. Whenever it’s on TV, I have to change the station or leave the room!

What advice would you give to beginners?

It’s very simple. Just be yourself! I listened to a lot of musicians and artists that have been in the industry for a while; they become very aggressive with the advice that they give to youngsters but I find this all absurd. You have your own path and journey.

It may take time but when it does happen, it will happen on your terms. Just keep your direction right and intentions pure, because this is the only key to the toughest of bolts in this universe.

Where would you like to find yourself in ten years?

I’m doing what I love so I’m happy where I am. I just want new experiences i.e. new explorations of music. I like being challenged and that’s what I’ve been doing for a last couple of years where I have taken on projects that have challenged me. I have recently taken a project where for the first time I am scoring music for a leading television show; doing all the background music for all the episodes as well as the theme music. I hope I can stay more on the production side. I want to create music more than performing it. I have childhood dream of establishing a soundproof glass music studio on an island with a restaurant attach to it, where I can create music while enjoying the nature. Let’s see whether I can achieve this dream or not.

I went to Barcelona because I love the city for its architecture, shopping and food.

I travelled with some of my close friends.

Where did you stay?

This time around I stayed at Royal Passeige De Gracia, one of the best hotels I’ve ever been to. Not only is its location central but also I loved the fact that all the shopping areas were nearby making it literally heaven for me.

Suggest some amazing restaurants there?

My favourite has to be La Xula Taperia, which is one of the best tapa restaurants in the city.

Tell us about sites no one should miss out on?

One of the most famous European landmarks is Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona. Renowned architect Antoni Gaudi designed it. Also no trip to the city is complete without a stroll in the Park GĂźell, a public park composed of gardens and architectonic elements.

Suggest places for a perfect night out?

La Rambla Street for sure which is a broad pedestrian boulevard, crowded every day until the wee hours.
