ENTREPRENEUR

EXTRAORDINAIRE Sania Hasnain Ali is a mother, wife and an entrepreneur who graduated from U of T in Business Administration and has built her own empire. She is a restaurenteur (part owner of newly opened Urban Kitchen), she co-founded Pakistan’s first and largest lifestyle expo ‘The Exhibit’ and owns the clothing brand ‘Boho’.

2018

Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted? I stumbled upon all three things that I’m involved in. My brother wanted to open up a restaurant and shared his idea with me and we decided to open Urban Kitchen in Lahore. I started The Exhibit (Lifestyle Expo) with Alyzeh Rahim approximately 3 years ago. My clothing brand, Boho, began because I wanted to create simple and comfortable clothes for myself and my friends encouraged me to sell these designs to the market as well. Did you ever consider or experience a career change? No, I enjoy what I do otherwise I wouldn’t be doing them. When was time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it? There will always be moments or people that try to discourage you intentionally or unintentionally, but one has to believe in themselves and just be confident! What was the best advice that your mentor gave you? I don’t have one particular mentor. My family gives me some sound advice and I try to follow it most of the times. What are the top 3 things you cherish in your life? Family, friends and life!

What is #1 thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list? I haven’t given much thought to that; I don’t think I have a bucket list. What does nobody tell you about being the boss? That one will never get time off. Name one boss lady that you admire and how she still inspires you? I can’t name one. I have very strong women in my family and they have all inspired me at some point. Describe a day in the life of Sania Hasnain Ali I try to start my day as early as possible and I get all my work responsibilities done by late afternoon so I can spend the rest of the day with my family. Complete this sentence: To me, a #BossLady is…” The future. What did you learn from your biggest failure? That life is not a bed of roses. Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with? None of them (lol) What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours? To not fear failure and always give whatever you want to do a try.

" I have very strong women in my family and they have all inspired me at some point." 2018

|IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Tell us the success story behind Amina Z Salon and how the journey has been so far? As they say, there is no shortcut to success. Likewise I have earned it through constant hard work and perseverance which has taken time and effort. In such an industry you have to constantly strive to keep your customers happy because customer trust and loyalty is our main goal. What are the exclusive services being provided at Amina Z Salon and what are your strongest expertise? We provide all sorts of services related to beauty from manicure and skincare to make up and photography. However, when it comes to my personal expertise it has got to be bridal makeup. Which has always been acknowledged and appreciated by our patrons and clientele.

in conversation with

Amina z The uber talented Amina Zahoor of Amina Z Salon has been inspiring us through her talent for quite a while now, read on to know more about this makeup maestro!

As summer is here, what skincare essentials would you recommend to your customers at Amina Z Salon? Keep yourself hydrated, cleanse twice a day, moisturize and don't forget to wear sunscreen. What is your biggest challenge with brides these days? Brides usually bring with them their favourite heavily edited bridal looks to replicate. It gets challenging to explain that every face and skin type has different set of requirements. A 100 watt dewy skin on Instagram could also crack and look cakey in real life. I am grateful that all my brides have been very cooperative, I talk to them in lengths to align expectations, as it's their big day and its our job to make them feel special.

What do you love most about makeup? Whats not to love about makeup! I still get excited when a new makeup palette is launched. There is so much to explore and play. Besides, I love how make up helps boost one's self confidence, making your clients feel beautiful is the most satisfying feeling in the world. What is your go-to makeup look? I like to keep my makeup very minimal, there is nothing more beautiful than natural skin for which I use my go-to Elizabeth Arden BB cream, Bare Mineral's Sunscreen powder, a lip and cheek tint and some mascara to complete my look.

and bold illustrations by emerging talent, its always very refreshing to see new generation's work of art. As an experienced make-up artist what tips would you like to give the emerging make-up artists? Never stop learning and practice patience! These two things are essential to any business. There are no shortcuts and its best to develop your skills, one should work hard and be able to enjoy what one does and learn how to be flexible as this field requires one to experiment and accommodate according to various situations.

What are the hot makeup trends for 2018 according to you? Usually I prefer no makeup look but lately i have been obsessing over 3D gold glittery eyes, heavy lashes, glossy cheeks and dark eyeliner. What are your top 5 'ride or die' makeup products? Laura Mercier Primer to prep my face, INGLOT Eyeliner, NARS Orgasm blush, LancĂ´me Mascara for those dreamy eyelashes and Urban Decay's glide on eye pencil. What three makeup items should no woman leave home without? It depends from person to person but I carry a lipstick, blush and a black eye pencil with me at all times. What are some common beauty mistakes that women make? I think women do not realize that they shouldn't be following trends just for the sake of following them. One should always focus on what makes them look good and keep in mind their own features and face structure when applying makeup. What are some things that have inspired you throughout your career? I get so much inspiration while I am travelling and I learn from different cultures and their perspective on beauty and art. I also love to go through powerful mood shots
