How did Erum Khan Couture come to life?

I've always been very passionate about styling and dressing up. As a child I use to take out all of my mother's duppattas and drape them to form new and exciting cuts.

My family's appreciation and the knack of introducing my own taste of fashion to the industry catapulted me into creating this label.

Is this what you have always wanted to do?

Yes, I like to be experimental and create new things, so this is exactly the field that I wanted to end up in. I am absolutely and entirely smitten with this work.

Tell us a little about your educational background. Did you study design?

No, I haven't studied design. As a matter of fact, I have done my MBA in marketing and whatever I have learnt and achieved in this industry is the consequence of years of hard work and immense amounts of passion.

Tell us three things we don’t know about you?

Contrary to my outwardly strong and rational demeanor, I can be very emotional at times. I love my kids and can do anything for them.

What was the best piece of advice you have ever gotten?

The best advice that I have ever gotten was to be patient, when things are out of control and everything is a mess. I believe being calm in the face of adverse situations always seem to bring about favourable results.

What is your dream project?

My dream project is to one day showcase my collection at the Milan Fashion Week.

Do you think you have achieved everything you’ve always wanted?

Yes, I think I have achieved so much of what I have always wanted. However, there is always room for improvement and learning. One should crave to learn more and grow with time What’s the next step?

The next step is to experiment with new lines of fashion and introduce the most creative and novel market trends in this ever evolving world of fashion.

What is your beauty secret?

I think it's God Gifted! Jokes apart, I drink a lot of water and fresh juices, as they remove toxins from your body, leaving your skin fresh and healthy.

Name three things you can’t leave your house without.

The things I can't go out without are my wallet, my cell phone and a positive attitude towards life. A good lipstick is always the best add on.

What would you like to say to our Paperazzi followers?

I would love to send loads of love to the Paperazzi followers and would also like to extend a simple advice: The best thing you could ever wear is your confidence and a charming smile, never forget that!

BUSINESS Frieha Altaf is a Pakistani model, mother of two children, fashion choreographer and CEO of Catwalk Event Management & Productions since 1989. She is known in Pakistan’s media industry for her charming and determined personality. Recently Lux Style Awards graced her with a lifetime achievement award for all her hard work and dedication to the industry.

Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted?

Yes, I did stumble upon my career. I was a painter and a sculptor and a very passionate one.. At one of my exhibitions, i was spotted by Saira Irshad from Herald Magazine and she asked me if i would be interested in modeling? It just started from there. From then onwards offers started pouring in. The experience made me realize how disorganized all these fashion events were. So I decided to open a company and fix the system myself!

What was your “aha!”

There have been several aha moments. From setting up the first modeling agency in Pakistan to doing my first television magazine show. I even organized an event for Pakistan at the Royal Albert hall and even managed few award shows.

What is #1 thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list?

I make a bucket list every year and I have ticked off major ones. I’ve travelled to six continents, dived on the top 10 scuba diving sites, tackled the important issue of child abuse and now I’d like to be more international which is what I’m working on now. Oh yeah and i managed to quit smoking!

What does nobody tell you about being the boss?

Nobody tells you about experience. However, I have alot to learn and miles to go, so I listen to the younger generation as their opinion matters.

Name on boss lady that you admire and how she still inspires you?

Musharraf Hai who was heading Loreal Pakistan was the first woman to give me my first event. She became the chairman of Unilever Pakistan and made it to top 50 women in the world list. She still continues to inspire me everyday.

Did you ever consider or experience a career change?

There have been several career changes; "You just from being an artist to model to an entrehave to preneur, actor, writer, and now an activist.

I would like to have dinner with Nelson Mandela and Justin Truduea. Nelson Mandela because he really believed in What are the top 3 things you cherish in doing the right thing and he did it peacefully. Truduea beyour life? cause he's young and full of positivity for the future.

The top 3 things I cherish in my life are; my family because without them you are nothing. Your company is your work What advice would you give to young girls so you need to be loyal and dedicated. And country beout there who have dreams and goals like cause you have to be true to your country because that is yours?. where you make a difference.

Believe in yourself. Be yourself, work hard and don’t take short cuts because there are no short cuts to success.
