• How and when did you start your job as the creative director at Ethnic?

I studied Fashion Design at PIFD where the course was very hands on and i learned how to design and make clothes - these two areas of study were both very useful in starting Ethnic, the brainchild of Outfitters.

I never felt like I had a choice. It just seemed natural to want to translate my ideas into fashion.

• What was your biggest fear while rolling out a new design in the market?

I was never scared :)

• Which is by far your personal favourite piece from the latest collection?

It’s very difficult for me to choose one piece, however the upcoming collection ‘Etoile’ is a perfect match between simplicity and style, with a touch of spice, hence my favourite.

• How do you want women to feel when wearing Ethnic by outfitters?

Happier and more confident.

• Have you earned a degree in designing or are you self taught?

Yes, a Fashion Design degree from PIFD.

• Where do you get inspiration from?

I find inspiration in art, photography, architecture, design and I love the streets, just watching people everyday is a great inspiration to me.

• Any piece of advice you would give to a junior you?

With success comes unhelpful criticism, ignore it!

• Who have been your biggest mentors and what's the best piece of advice they've given to you?

I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without Mr Kamran’s (CEO Outfitters) mentor-

• What is your favourite part about being a part of Ethnic by outfitters?

It's fun creating designs for a mix of art loving customers; housewives shopping alongside their uni going daughters and

Yes, definitely. Throughout the year, we create what people need, whereas fashion weeks give us that time where we can really explore and push the boundaries to bring something unexpected.

• Lastly, where do you see your Ethnic by Outfitters in another 5 years?

Everything’s very fast paced at a fastfashion brand like Ethnic. The collections are many, the work is a lot. The next 5 years are going to be about constantly pushing Ethnic in a direction where we can excite people. The possibilities are endless.

Who is Furqan Alamgir?

He’s a father, a son, a husband, a brother, a doctor, and an entrepreneur.

Tell us a little about your education?

I moved from Pakistan to the UK when I was 3 and completed all my studies from there. I hold an MBBS and BSc from Imperial College London.

You live in the UK but your roots are from Pakistan?

Did you face any challenges or difficulties while growing up?

My father always says “a donkey living in a stable doesn’t become a horse” …. other than being called a donkey… this saying made me think and led me to be the proud British Pakistani I am today. I truly feel I got to experience the best of both cultures.

You’re a doctor by profession but you own a business. Tell us about it?

This is a long story and one I typically share with friends over Pizza. I started Connexin.co.uk whilst at medical school and ran it alongside my studies/working as a doctor. At Connexin, we build and operate high-speed internet networks and applications and have customers worldwide. In 2016 I completely left medicine to run my business full time which was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make.

Are there any plans to expand or start In Pakistan?

No plans at the moment! However I’d love to bring Connexin to Pakistan

Tell us something no one knows about you?

If I told you this I would have to kill you.

What obstacles did you face while starting your own business?

Starting a business is tough, it takes a lot of courage, hard work and dedication. We experience issues on a daily basis! Some of the key challenges were around raising funds and managing a growing team.

Do you think you’ve achieved all that you’ve wanted?

Definitely not, I’m learning each and every day.

What would you like to say to your Paperazzi followers?

Don’t be afraid to take risks, do what you love and value what you have been given!

DAWN TILL DUSK:

I chic’d things up for the night time by adding tassel earrings and black Louboutins. Rocked a fresh blow-out and threw on a statement gold bangle as I got ready to flaunt my Zehra Saleem X Panache Lawn.

I was super excited to wear black during the day. The pink in the outfit was the perfect pop of color to make it stand out. I kept things simple by wearing black flats and dark shades.

Amber Gohar started as a home-based designer by designing clothes as a hobby. Through word of mouth her business started growing and it become a full-fledged business. A family oriented person at heart who manages to balance her work with her family life, she loves to spend time with her children and two grandsons.

Did you stumble upon your career or was it something that you always wanted?

Well I ventured into this career by chance. Once my children were all grown up, I had a lot of free time on my hands and felt the need to channel my creative energy thus I started designing, which I felt was my natural calling.

What was your “aha!” moment?

My aha moment is every time my designs are appreciated by my girls as they are my biggest critique and also my inspiration for designing.

Did you ever consider or experience a career change?

Well since I started and by the grace of Allah SWT, my brand became recognized by word of mouth only which was very gratifying and ever since I haven’t felt the need for a career change.

When was time you felt completely discouraged and how did you push through it?

I am a positive thinker and don’t get discouraged by minor ups and downs. However when they do happen, I always turn towards Allah SWT for strength and my faith gets me through difficult times.

What was the best advice that your mentor gave you?

I think the best advice was an unspoken one from my husband, which is always to keep grounded and not to overrate oneself.

I have always been a huge fan of Bunto apa (Kazmi). I have always been inspired by her elegance, style and work ethics.

Describe a day in the life of Amber Gohar The first part of my day usually revolves around working out, which I do at home. Then after attending to details around the house I head off for work and mostly fit in errands, social engagements or meet-ups with my girls during mid day. I pop back in to check on closing time at the studio before heading home to spend time with my family and relax while watching TV shows with my hubby

To me a Boss lady is one who doesn’t exert her power forcefully but commands I AM A POSITIVE respect with grace and poise, contained in THINKER AND her boundaries, making her strengths shine DON’T GET DISCOURAGED through.

What are the top 3 things you cherish in your life?

I cherish my beautiful loving supportive family and the wonderful times we have together. I cherish all the blessings of Allah, which he has bestowed on me, Alhamdulillah.

What is #1 thing that is yet to be ticked off your bucket list?

I’m more of a ‘go with the flow’ sort of person and i don’t really have a bucket list but when good things happen I always add them to my bucket list of blessings.

What does nobody tell you about being the boss?

Nobody told me being boss means taking care of finances

What did you learn from your biggest failure?

Failure to me is a step towards learning and finding strength in your abilities. “Our greatest glory is not in never failing but in rising every time we fail” as quoted by Confucius.

Which world leader would you most like to have dinner with?

Queen Rania has always been an inspiration for her style and elegance. I would love to have a chance at having dinner with her in hopes of dressing her up for one of her spectacular outings.

What advice would you give to young girls out there who have dreams and goals like yours?

My advice to young people is to always follow your dreams but in doing so one should be able to manage all other responsibilities. Never neglect your family, your health and your loved ones. For real success is not in career but to balance everything beautifully and also not to let success go to your head as I believe Pride comes before a fall.
