Normal day at shoot is a lot of fun- its like party all the time- it doesn't feel like work because its a great team, great director, great co actors and I miss those shooting days.

I look up to my dad- He's my true inspiration- In terms of actors: Anthony Hopkins, Daniel Deluise are fantastic actors.

*ABOUT ME

the people from our villages are generally really funny and I gather my ideas by observing their acts What do you think about when you’re alone?

This is the time I come up with my ideas usually on a long drive or in the bathroom is when the ideas are cooking. This is the time when I am alone and my brainstorming sessions take place.

What’s your biggest fear?

My biggest fear I would say is hurting or offending someone unintentionaly. I generally try to steer away from sensitive topics like religion and politics as I prefer to avoid any sort of conflict (my real fear is losing my wife though) How long have you been performing for?

I have been performing for just 2 years it was all unexpected so the response was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t actually think the videos would bring me so far along. I have also performed live on stage in the UK

RAHIM PARDESI How did you get into this field?

I have always had a funny side to me especially in friends and family, it’s usually me who’s pulling the pranks. I was sixteen years old when I started making occasional videos, just for fun. My friends and family always used to urge me to put them online. So one day I took the plunge and that was when the journey started. My first video was on Halloween and then the second one was on PIA How do you come up with such ideas?

I’m very observant I sometimes see a situation and adapt that into my sketches. Most of my content is from day to day life. Things we do every day and we aren’t aware of while performing those acts. Also 38

How do you deal with critics?

I feel like if there are 98% people who love your work, then there are those 2% who also criticize. The best way to deal with them is to simply ignore them.

Tell us one of your funniest moments?

Well more than funny, I can tell you one embarrassing moment. I went to a mall in Glasgow to shoot one of my scenes, dressed up as Nasreen and they kicked me out thinking I was some random weird lady One advice for new comedians?

I feel that comedy is not for everyone but if I do have to give an advice then one should know that it’s all about the timing.

My biggest challenge was that people didn’t think death was a good topic for a documentary. Time and again, I second guessed making this documentary. But somehow I always mustered up the courage to start talking about it again because of my inclination towards the topic. And I’m very glad I remained persistent.

Where did you derive this idea from?

People around me seemed to keep the topic of death at bay or catastrophize it. In reality, death is not only separation but it is more importantly reconciliation with the creator. So, I wanted to get into the head of a gravedigger to understand his psyche and coping mechanism because that’s the only reality he sees all day long.

HERE GOES ANOTHER FEATHER IN THE YOUNG GIRL'S CAP AS IT HAS ALSO WON THE BEST DOCUMENTARY AWARD AT CINESIEGE, IN TORONTO. Tell us little about your documentary ‘Dust to Dust’?

Dust to Dust touches upon the fundamental truth of life death - and the eternal human quest to transcend it. It follows a gravedigger in Lahore as he tries to find a greater purpose in life through his daily confrontations with death.

What motivated you to work on this particular project?

Few years ago I lost my grandfather and last year I lost my grandmother. So the motivation emanated from more frequent visits to the graveyard. I’ve also had a near death experience myself, so fortunately or unfortunately, I began seeing death as an inevitable reality.

What obstacles did you face while putting this project together?

How long did it take for you to put this documentary together?

It took me roughly 8 months to complete this documentary.

Tell us about your journey in making this documentary?

It was a very interesting journey because I had to juggle multiple roles – I partly edited the documentary. As an editor,

I had to put away the heart of a director and get the editor’s mode on. Every time I sat to edit it with my co-editor, I learned something new from Ashraf, the gravedigger, and luckily I was able to translate that visually.

If there is anything you would like to change about this documentary, what would it be?

This might sound clichéd but I wouldn’t change a single thing. I was fortunate enough to have things fall into place right from when the production started.

Did you expect that this documentary would be one of the 85 chosen from 1600 films?

While making this documentary, I was invested so much in the topic itself that film festivals never came to my mind.

The only success I could see was this short documentary impacting people. Then my University officially selected this to be sent to the Student Academy Awards, and just like that, one day I got an email stating that my documentary had been selected for the semifinals.

What do you think makes your documentary unique?

People generally view the topic of death and the physical space of the documentary (i.e. a graveyard) as morbid, but this documentary will hopefully leave them feeling positive.

What sort of audience does this documentary cater?

The topic is incredibly universal and one that everyone can relate to, so it can be watched widely.

Are you planning to make more documentaries in the future?

The next one is already in the works now.
