runway makeup trends usually differ greatly from bridal trends, as the latter has to have an everlasting and timeless appeal. maryam ali, ceo of Blodry Bar shares some of her favorite makeup trends for 2017 that she will be translating onto bridal makeup for this winter.

1. SOFT CONTOUR Unlike the sharp lines of 2016, 2017 welcomes a softer contour for the brides. This will define your face (and brows, YES I SAID IT) the same way but will take years of age off your face and give a younger look.

2. DEWY SKIN This trend is here to stay! Just like the soft contour, perfectly highlighted dewy skin makes you look like you have spent the last 3 months before your big day in a tub of ubtan and pampered your skin well (no one needs to know layers of ‘farsali’ is working its magic).

3. MONOCHROME LIDS One solid prominent colour over an amalgamation of eighteen colors on the eye lids FTW this year. We saw this trend rule the ramps and runways alike. Using a solid colour on the lid with neutraltoned blending paired with a beautiful winged liner is definitely a look for the royal, and looks imperishably classy.

4. RED LIPS Red lips will always be a trend juxtaposed with a desi bride, and the only time you can break the rule of dark eyes with dark lips is on your Barat. A classic gold smokey or a double winged liner paired with red lips looks ethereal but one has to be careful about underplaying everything else; foundation, contour and blush all have to be kept at a bare minimum.

5. GLOSSY COMEBACK Glossy lips are back with a bang this year! Glossy finish definitely gives a more flirty, sultry and at the same time, soft look to complete your look for the day. Whether it is pastel nudes, pinks and corals or the blood red shades of lip color, gloss is the way to go! @BLODRYBARPK

pers onal s pace Tell us a little about Ambience interiors and how did you two decide to collaborate? Also from where did you two learn about your respective art?

Somia: Ambiance is actually Yousra’s brainchild. When she started I did not realize it would grow in leaps and bounds. I am just a part of the art's department. I have been drawing and painting all my life, learned the basics in school and since then have been self taught. Art whether its creating or admiring it just makes me happy.

Yousra: I love colours, prints and patterns and i am able to put together fresh, comfortable and modern rooms . Our work complements each others and we find it inspiring to work together.

Who came up with the name Ambiance? What's the inspiration or philosophy behind it?

Yousra: I always look at an interior as an entire environment rather than a piece here or there. The thought behind the name is to put together a cohesive interior bearing style as well as comfort in mind.

When and how did you decide that you want to pursue a career in interior designing?

Yousra: I have been helping friends and family figure out their interiors for years now and enjoy it immensely which led me to finally go professional last year.

When you entered into the market as a new face was it challenging? If yes any specific challenges you want to highlight?

Yousra: The most challenging part is reaching new faces.

People who already know us trust us immensely with their projects. However now the challenge is to get to potential clients who are meeting us for the first time to give us a chance.

Somia: There is always a market for what you believe in.

Because we enjoy our work it shows in the product we create.

when you are designing a new furniture piece?

Yousra: Inspiration, Design and Execution.

Any special inspiration or interior designer that you look up to in this particular field?

Yousra: I'm highly inspired by the combination of prints and colours that Martyn Lawrence Bullard uses and am a huge fan of Kelly Wearstler's designs.

What kind of a painter are you? Tell us about your favourite painter?

Somia: My work is generally abstract and contemporary. I make big bold and splashy art. I love pouring paint and using large brushes. However, I admire artists who do detailed work and can pay attention to detail which is something I have never been able to do. I'm inspired by the works of Samia Halaby, Yayoi Kusama, Rothko and Pollock.

What’s the most important element you believe needs to be there while you are painting?

Somia: On the days I paint I hate to be pushed for time. I like an hour or so beforehand to just 'be'.

What is the latest furniture piece or paintings that you are working on lately?

Yousra: Currently we are working hard to complete fresh designs for our September 2017 showcase.

Somia: I am busy with multiple paintings in progress. What I really want to get started on is getting big cans of house paint and experimenting on a large canvas.

For you what is the important part of interior designing?

Yousra: Understanding the clients lifestyle and incorporating it into the environment is paramount.

What do you feel or believe is The Ambiance’s USP or what makes it different from the others?

Yousra: Our understanding of our clients lives and the way they live them. Incorporating functionality into our pieces and projects is what sets us apart. It's easy to create something that just looks pretty but following the mantra of functional excellence is where our uniqueness lies.

Somia: Yousra is dedicated and ambitious. She can put order to a seemingly hopeless mess. I also admire her unconventional, sometimes surprising ideas which work perfectly and everything else just seems to fall into place.

Q12. How do you keep yourself motivated and positive?

Yousra: For me inspiration comes from nature. It can be an oddly shaped stone or a shell or even just a long walk in the park.
