Tell us a bit about your culinary school and what it offers.

Hira Ahmad: Basically, it's taking cooking classes to the next level. Its a complete hands down experience. You make what the chef is making and you can even take it home.

Hammad Naveed: Starts with short courses where extensive notes are taken. Our Chefs that are onboard are either from Scafa or have been taking courses from abroad.

However, people are still not being able to accept it.

Tell us individually why and when did you start cooking/baking what was the drive behind the passion?

Hira Ahmad: I started cooking at 15 as a hobby but eventually i realised it's something i'm very opassionate about.

Hammad Naveed: I have not been cooking professionally but i love food! I went abroad for a yeaer where i would cook food alot hence when i came back i created this culinary school.

Each of you have to choose one dish you could eat for the rest of your lives,which one would it be?

Hammad Naveed: BIRYANI! Hira Ahmad: I think i could survive on cheesecakes!

Has there ever been a crazy incident at the culinary school?

Hammad Naveed: We have not yet been through any crazy incident but people from all sorts of backgrounds come here and share thier life stories and how their passion for cooking grew. One of the students had social anxiety so for him we offered a seperate class and we were not expecting to be doing this too but it's been great!

This is the first culinary school that has openly challenged gender stereotypes.

Have you faced any criticism for that?

Hammad Naveed: Guys frequently ask this question wether we can also join these courses.

People get very ammused that boys and girls have to worik together. Once an Uncle came with his wife and wanted to enlist his daughters and the next day they did'nt turn up. It's still hard to break the norm.

Hira Ahmad: Alot of guys are interested in 42

What obstacles did you face when pursuing the dream of cooking considering the cultural gap in Pakistan?

Hammad Naveed: When i initially started working on this idea, i approached my grandfather and dad and the first thing they said was 'Sure go ahead, but Rishta kahan say milayga'? That was the only obstacle i faced as i belonged to a bussiness family but eventually when they started seeing the response whish was amazing they were assured that it was a good decision.

Any advice for the youth who want to pursue culinary as a career?

Hira Ahmad: I studied for 4 years something i didnt want to study and it took me a long time to convince my family. It takes time and you need guts to stand up for what you love to do and want to pursue.

Hammad Naveed: The youth is not really into Culinary because their isn't much scope in Pakistan. If a girl wants to work in a restaurant its hard as its a male dominated industry. That's the change we want to bring and give a chance to young chefs as we give them a platform and we pay them as much as the entire class. The chefs from Scafa enrolled in a 3 month course pay 6 lakhs. The same chefs teach you everything, hands on for just 25,000. I dont think thier is a better platform like this at the moment.

If there was an earthquake, and you had to grab three items from the kitchen, what would it be?

Hira Ahmad: My Mixer, whatevers in the fridge and my oven!

Hammad Naveed: I'd run to the fridge and grab something to eat!
