sapphire lawn out of africa
"Creativity and imagination have no boundaries once left unfettered. I push myself, and my team to set forth towards the extraordinary – to pave way for new experiences and to move away from that which is ubiquitous. Our perpetual quest for the undiscovered landed us in Namibia, Africa. The azure blue sky, deep orange sand and 100's of years old skeletal trees provided an unrivalled backdrop to Sapphire’s Eid collection 2016. Rabia Butt, sizzled in the tantalizing hues of Sapphire Lawn under the glaring African sun. The dynamic duo Nadir and Maha, captured the majestic landscape to perfection. It was, all in all an amazing journey undertaken with a formidable team of creative individuals. Together, with the people that created this collection and those who brought it to life – we all bring you Sapphire 2016 Eid collection." Khadijah Shah Brand: Sapphire Photographer: Nadir Firoz Khan Creative Direction: Maha Burney Styling: Maha Burney, Khadijah Shah & Natasha Saleem Hair: Harlem Alexander Makeup: Pia Ruud Model: Rabia Butt

khadijah shah • Where did you find inspiration for this collection? Sapphire's signature aesthetic comprises of painterly florals, rococo motifs and scenic landscapes- we built upon our signature in an array of tantalising hues ranging from vibrant to earthy. • Tell us about a memorable/funny moment during your shoot? There were many! We were a fun group of really diverse creative individuals and that ensured there were laughs all around. Piya and Harlem, our makeup and hairstyling team, were quite literally from another planet, full of energy and theatrics. Rabia was a fire cracker and her exchanges with Adnan and Salman would have us in fits. Maha and Natasha became BFFs and were nicknamed homeless and crazy- they were always taking pictures together! Nadir was deeply immersed in creating magic with his camera and Adnan would go from serious director mode to clowning around within minutes! • Which print is your personal favourite? I can't wait to wear mystical flowers and meadow chintz- I love how subtle and pretty they are. • What trends did you follow for this collection? I diffuse trends from Elan to Sapphire. We continued with shorter, sleeker silhouettes and made some fashion forward additions such as wrap around kimonos, front open tied around the waist gilets, button down oversized shirts & batwing sleeves. • What trends for bottoms are your favourite this season to pair with the new Sapphire kurtas? With Elan lawn we launched the trend for sheer organza linear details in pantswe built upon those details and did variations of two and three vertical sheer lines at the hem and the side seam- accented with tassels and beads- We've also featured our signature sheer lace embroideries and experimented with larger panels of sheer fabric at the hems of our capris, boot cuts and culottes- the idea was to introduce a wide variety of ways in which our customers can make their lawn pants look fun and edgy! 2016

nadir firoz khan • WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THIS LOCATION? Khadijah had her heart set on Africa for this campaign. My location research led me to the Namibian desert and possibly the most surreal location I’ve seen, reminiscent of a Dali painting. The ‘Deadvlei’ or 'Dead Marsh' is so strange and alien in it’s beauty that it is difficult to describe. The 900 year old dead trees, the white pan floor, the rusted red dunes, which are among the tallest and oldest in the world, against the deep blue sky is nothing short of spectacular. It feels like you’re on Mars rather than earth. • WHAT IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES YOU FACED DURUNG THIS CAMPAIGN? Not many people travel to Namibia and we were going to be shooting in one of the most desolate and oldest deserts in the world. I knew from the start that this was not going to be an easy task. We were constantly battling the forces of nature, the heat, the dust and the long walks on the dunes. The terrain definitely made our work a lot more challenging. • HOW WAS THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE OF WORKING WITH SAPPHIRE? Since our first campaign for their very first store launch we have had a great working relationship with Sapphire. This shoot is further testament to how well we work together as a team. I’m proud that together we managed to successfully pull off a very ambitious campaign in a very challenging location! We are always looking to push boundaries and raise the bar and Sapphire is all about that as well.
maha burney • Which sapphire print is your favourite from this collection? Monochromatic damask is a standout for me. • What trends did you keep in mind while styling this collection? We wanted to give Rabia a cool eclectic vibe whilst also bringing in elements that allude to the African theme without being too obvious. The braided hair, the white graphic eye makeup, and the bronzed skin are all very current and yet have an African undertone. From shoulder duster feathered earrings, to afro-centric necklaces, to graphic bags, elaborate ethnic inspired flats and shoes with beaded detailing, this campaign is stylistically full of summer's most covetable accessory trends. • How has your over all experience been working with the sapphire team? The Sapphire team is amazing! We love working with people who are as hardworking and passionate about their work as we are and Sapphire really tops our list in that regard. It helps that they are fun to work with as well! • Tell us one positive and one negative about working with your husband on these amazing projects! Nadir and I are the typical husband and wife duo! Haha sometimes we bicker like an old married couple, but at the end of the day we can't function without each other either. Only we know what the other needs and how to work together to make magic happen.

planes, trains & automobiles
Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our new section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you chose to go and why? The idea of 7 cities in 8 days probably makes you gasp; when the same idea of cramped legs and sore feet from long walks and tireless bus rides makes us feel alive. In a span of a week we traveled Rome, Venice, Florence, Milan, Pisa and Vatican City. Who did you travel with? It was our senior year high school trip and I travelled with my friends. Where did you stay? Since we moved to a different city almost every 2 days and came back to our hotels late night to sleep; maybe spending money on hotels wasn’t the best idea. Hence, we got 4 star
travel diaries
hotels booked all over Italy. What are the best shopping spots there For all the talks of it being a relatively architectural country, we got to see the ludicrously fun side of it. More than just the image of all the best of architecture in Europe, Italy never failed to satisfy my wardrobe. If you’re looking for leather, and the best leather that is, go no further than Florence. It has the best leather market (expensive but totally worth it). And for all the crazy shopaholics out there, Milan is your spot. They weren’t understating when they called it the fashion hub of the world. With almost every brand ranging from Mango to Chanel in Duomo (the city centre), you will have your shopping bags full and pockets empty.

What can you there to relax and unwind • Piazza dei Miracoli, a grassy, walled square inside Pisa is the best place to lie down on a windy day and look around at not only the Leaning tower but also many other surreal architectural beauties. • A Gondola ride in Venice all along the Grand Canal with friends and family is my ideal definition of leaving all stress behind. • Walk along the Canal Ponte Vecchio in Florence with your favorite flavor of Gelato.
travel diaries
Sights none should miss on To list them down unfairly, I’d tell you to not miss Juliet’s balcony in Verona; To go inside the colloseum and explore its deconstructed yet artsy architecture. Also, don’t forget to visit the two most historical churches: Milan Cathedral in Milan and Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fior in Florence. For all the history lovers, going to see the Altare della Patria and the Pantheon would obviously be a treat to refresh times from post unified Italy and Augustun Era. But it obviously goes without saying that that Rides through the Grand Canal in Venice and visiting the leaning tower of Pisa should be on the top of your list.
Some places for the perfect night out • Piazza del poppolo in Rome. • Gondola rides in Venice • Vatican city and Sistine Chapel. • Midnight stroll in Milan Duomo

Suggest some amazing restaurants: Food is always number one on my list and to say the least, Italy didn’t disappoint me. From having good Indian food from Krishna 13 in Rome to one of the best vegetable lasagna from Osteria alle Testiere, Venice; Italy is definitely more than just pizza and pasta. Though some must have stereotypes from Italy are their thin crust pizza, gelato and tomato pasta. However, don’t be shocked to be served with a bowl full of lettuce when asking for salad and garlic bread with raw tomatoes and olive oil as their most preferred starter. Quick Tip: Not all the food in all restaurants is going to suite your taste buds so stop by to try all types if street food.

If you're comfortable using a gel liner it just doesn't get any better or easier than Mac's blacktrack. Glides when you apply and stays put throughout the day! Tip* Pair it with Mac's 210 brush to achieve all the looks you need.
Loreal Carbon Black Telescopic Precision Liquid Liner A favourite of mine since the high school days, this liquid liner gives an amazing finish and does not budge. The new and improved built in brush is slick thin, making it a piece of cake to nail that cat eye.
dm cosmetics crayon k ohl pencil
If you're more of a pencil kinda girl, this product is a dream! Discovered while browsing the beauty department of Al Fatah this kohl pencil simply does not smudge and won't come off unless you want it to. Easily accesible, reasonably priced and lasts forever, a girl couldn't possibly ask for more!

As you near the finish line on Monday, thrust your neck forward so that you're ahead when the picture snaps. Whatever it takes. That's your motto. Spend Tuesday basking in the sweet glow of success. The risks you assume in any situation -- work, romantic, whatever -- are totally worth it in the end. People regard you as a leader and a pioneer on Wednesday, but on Thursday you find yourself crippled by frustration and doubt. It's amazing how quickly the feeling of accomplishment can disappear, but try not to let it. This weekend, strike out into the world with confidence, and good things will happen.
It's funny: The way you stand says a lot about how you're feeling. You're standing tall on Monday, feeling grounded, steady and particularly connected to the earth. This is a good place to be in. Poise is important this week -- especially on Tuesday and Wednesday, when a weird conflict with a friend or authority figure unexpectedly presents itself. Thursday and Friday, spend time around people you don't have to explain yourself to. If you go shopping over the weekend, don't rush around. Take your time. Stroll.
Monday is a tough day -- as Mondays so often are -- but that changes quickly. Many of the questions swimming around in your head as the week gets going are answered by Tuesday or Wednesday. An intellectual conversation on one of those days sets you thinking in a radically new way about a subject you've long considered yourself an expert in. Ideas... Exciting! Thursday and Friday you are misfiring right and left -- conversationally speaking -- but quality time with quality people over the weekend fixes that. On Sunday, take initiative in a group setting.

The Monday blahs have a hold on you at the start of the week. If you don't feel like going out, well, find a way to stay indoors. You have a million projects to occupy yourself with -- the last thing you need to grapple with right now is, you know, other people. Tuesday and Wednesday, watch out for stubborn people (and be extra conservative around money issues). Thursday and Friday see you finally warming up and in the mood to be social, although daydreaming for hours on end may seem equally appealing. This weekend, after an essentially quiet week, your emotions will be easily aroused.
Making a good impression is a key concern of yours on Monday, but so is not coming across as arrogant. It's a delicate balance. One way to strike that balance is to avail yourself to someone else. Help a friend out. Force your ego to the sidelines for as long as you can, because by Wednesday it may explode to the fore. Ego clashes aren't pretty, so do what you can to avoid them. Be patient. And on Thursday and Friday, be in listening mode; pretend you're sick of your own voice. This weekend, everything goes your way, even as someone challenges your opinion. But it feels good to be challenged sometimes!
A lovely weekend leads to a romantic Monday. If you're single, that might change. You may even meet someone through work. The fun you have on Monday leads to a desire to organize your life on Tuesday -- while you're enjoying yourself, you want to have a clean house! Notice the way your routine changes subtly when you're in good spirits, as you will be on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday, relationship issues figure strongly -- don't be too critical of others, and don't get frustrated if people move at a different pace than you do. You enter the weekend with a true sense of purpose.
There are limits to what you'll be able to accomplish on Monday, as a sentimental mood has you feeling oddly unbalanced. But by Tuesday, this weirdness dissolves in a headlong rush of romance and goodwill. On Wednesday, you understand the people around you better than you have in a while, and Thursday has you so busy, the hours fly by. On Friday you'll have the opportunity to help others appreciate beauty and harmony. In fact, you're still stuck on that beauty kick as Saturday pitches you back into the romantic realm. It's a roller coaster of a week, but a fun ride nonetheless.
Normally you're a rather sensitive being, but Monday has you thinking like a CEO. You're all business, and determination and shrewdness define the day. Sign the dotted line. Get this project going. If only you could get projects underway so easily at home on Tuesday and Wednesday. You have the urge to rip part of the roof off and install a skylight, but someone else thinks a skylight is a bad idea... et cetera. Your creative ideas go over much better on Thursday and Friday, but this is just not the ambitious week you thought it would be. This weekend, do something healthy for yourself.

Monday is one of those days when you have to trick yourself into staying on task. Reward yourself throughout the day for your discipline. At the end of the workday, you may return home tired, but that's only because your body is gearing up to glow extra brightly on Tuesday and Wednesday. You spend the middle of the week inspiring your friends and instigating exciting changes, all while spending as little as possible. You may be misled by your bank account on Thursday or Friday, so watch out for that. This weekend, your wallet thin, you go into bohemian mode. Which is fun, in a way!
A friend in a high place pulls strings for you at the beginning of the week, and you can't believe your luck. Life is good. But you feel a bit like the star of a movie that doesn't have a director. In the absence of strong leadership, then, turn your efforts toward helping others midweek -- it will be totally rewarding. But if you find yourself deeply involved in volunteer activities this week, take some time Thursday or Friday to goof off by yourself. It's important to recharge those batteries. This weekend, life is a game and you don't know the rules. Explore!

The way you look at things is startling and unique. And the way you communicate on Monday is startling as well... and plenty direct! Tuesday and Wednesday, perfect strangers are carrying on fascinating conversations with you wherever you go. Actually, you're carrying the conversations, but who's keeping score -- you just have a talent for these things. Sadly, none of your talents are of much use to you on Thursday and Friday, when a drain in your energy has you losing sight of (as well as literally losing) things. This weekend will be a load of fun, however. Games figure strongly. And children. And (hooray!) energy.
The week begins on a great note. Your plans are working, and everyone you see smiles big in response to your own huge grin. You're rather impressive these days! Financial issues may affect your mood slightly midweek -- it's not that you don't have cash, it's just that you're indecisive about what to do with it. But by Friday, when a creative scenario reminds you how psychically worthless it is to worry about money, you're in great spirits again. Matter of fact, you're on top of the world. Still, be good about your responsibilities this weekend.

BRK: AUJ is a beautiful name - Throwback to classical Urdu and Farsi poetry - Where the mountains meet the stars. Its small, and fits our philosophy perfectly

What skills are important for a successful career in fashion, in terms of the brand itself and the uniqueness of the design? MK: Pride. I'll explain : The ability to proudly be able to create a collection that is unique and comes from within. To create designs without having "taken inspiration" from the web, and to proudly stand behind each design because you know you have given it your absolute best BRK: An understanding and genuine love for the end consumer wearing your product. Identify their wants, needs and likes and work everything backwards. What was the inspiration behind AUJ’s latest collection? MK: Our latest lawn collection was inspired by a lot of different things - In lawn, you draw on multiple inspirations but to narrow it down, we focused on floral surrealism

Tell us about the materials that go into each cloth produced by AUJ. BRK: Apart from love, pride and joy? :) AUJ is backed by Adamjee Enterprises, who go above and beyond in constructing some of the nicest fabrics we've ever seen. For each collection, we go through at least 2 months of extensive research before finalizing the end cloth How do you balance creativity with business? MK: By realizing that creativity needs the proper context to flourish. Both Babar (my founding partner) and I are creatives, but I leave a lot of the business structuring and development to his skill and experience while I look after the designs What favorite quote/mantra do you live by? MK: Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom - Viktor E. Frankl BRK: "You are nothing but a number of days, and with each passing day, a part of you has faded away" Hasan Al Basri What are AUJ’s plans for the future, are you ? MK: We are expanding into retail - and going to be crafting a lot of really cool clothing! BRK: We want to keep producing work that makes Pakistanis and Pakistan proud.
What advice would you give to aspiring fashion designers/entrepreneurs? MK: There is an incredible amount of grit hidden behind the glamour and pomp of our industry - It is sheer persistence - 12 hours a day / 365 days a year. But keep your head down and keep moving forward and I can promise you will end up somewhere great.

There are no words for me to describe how comfortable this pajama set is! Since I'm a comfort first sort of person It's the perfect outfit to wear on a chilled night at home watching tv and relaxing. The fact that its also cute makes it a complete winner in my eyes
This kimono is so versatile and the black color made me love it even more! It can be styled it in so many ways from casual to formal. I decided to go with a more formal look with a cropped top and tailored pants. The kimono is the star of the outfit! I paired it with killer high heels and a fun clutch. I'd wear this outfit out to a get together or party.

This lilac slip dress was not only comfortable looked great too. I belted the dress to give it more shape and add a little bling to it and added fun statement shoes to put the outfit together. This is the perfect dress to go dancing in; it's comfy, flowy, and just the right length. The lilac color also makes it versatile for a brunch or a summer night out.
I am always a fan of basics and that's exactly what this blue silk top is! There are countless ways I could style it and I chose to pair it with black silk pants and a quirky clutch to makes things more fun. The big statement earrings add character to the look and dress up the look immediately. I'd wear this to a dinner or a party.

Rehmat Ajmal I always give comfort priority but I try to make sure it looks stylish at the same time. I picked up a basic black shirt and paired it with my dungarees with white shoes and a very easy to carry, cute black purse available at BTW. For the evening look, I picked a very classy black scarf and draped it all around that cleverly hid the upper half of the dungarees. I then chose BTW's statement tasseled black clutch that complimented the whole look. 2016

Night The minute I saw the blue jacket I knew I'd style it with a simple white tank top, ripped jeans and a pair of white shoes. Very comfortable yet chic. At night I put on the rest of the coordinates of the outfit. Got a sleek back pony tied, picked a matching chain bag, knotted a very elegant looking silk scarf around it and I was good to go. Let me introduce you to a very basic street style recipe. Tuck your shirt in, put your shades on, tie a bun, throw on a bag, wear comfortable shoes and walk like you own the streets. But if you have to wear the same kurta to a dinner the same day? Open that bun, wear slightly longer earrings, put on your favorite heels, hold a clutch that goes with the look and off you go.
