So tell us about yourself, who is Rehmat outside the bubble of the industry?

Well, I am a girl who is very close to her friends and family. I believe in investing time and effort in relationships because our relationships make us who we are. You’d find me in my pajamas sipping a cup of tea and reading poetry, writing poetry or just listening to my favorite songs. I love listening to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Abida Parveen, Ali Sethi and Kaavish. I love painting, writing and dancing. I also sometimes think that I am around 90 years old from the inside and I love that about myself. Also, I like roses and scented candles.

How did you decide a career in modelling was for you?

You just know when something clicks and you absolutely enjoy doing what you do. I always found myself in situations where different people would tell me that I should become a model but I just didn’t know how to or if my parents would allow. Slowly but steadily I made my way through one shoot at a time. One thing I love about my career of choice is that there is so much margin of improving. You are your own boss and you can tell your mistakes, it helps you learn so much about your own self. It takes you towards constantly perfecting yourself and not just from the outside, of course. Travelling, meeting people, talking to different people and working with different people literally shapes your person32

ality every second and I am so happy that my job requirement is such that Monday doesn’t feel like Monday after all. Even though there is a lot of hard work involved and it drains your energy and at times you don’t want to change 30 outfits per day for a living but when the result comes in front of you it is worth it and pushes you to try and do even better next time.

Was it challenging to enter in the industry as a young face?

Of course, it was like walking in the streets of an unknown city.

I had to make an identity for myself but honestly who doesn’t?

One has to start somewhere. It was exciting in a way because I could just be myself because I was really unknown and obviously there was a lot of struggle and ups and downs but I am happy that all of those are a part of me now and I have so much to share with my grandchildren. (See now I am sounding like a 90 year old) Is modelling something you want to take forward in your life and why?

Well, not exactly the way it is right now because I plan on leaving the country for a while to do my Masters in either visual merchandising or fashion design. And because I am doing my bachelors in Textile I think I’d also want to make some use of my degree. I would want to explore myself as a designer and work

on different conceptual collections. I also plan on coming back to Pakistan to design costumes for themed theatrical plays. I just know that I have to keep giving something back to my country no matter what shape it takes and which door it comes out of. However I would still love to do experimental editorials for fun whenever I get the time to!

Where would you want to see yourself in the next five years?

Well, happily married, working and traveling. I also see a small red-bricked house with wooden floors, and glass windows, surrounded with a lot of plants and of course a nice kitchen garden!

What are some of your favourite brands to work with and who do you look forward to working with in the future?

I absolutely enjoy working with Nishat, I miss working with Zara Shahjahan as I believe she took good care of me when I was just a small seed in the industry. I really look forward to working with Ali Xeeshan and Abdullah Haris as I am a big fan of their work. My dear friend Fahad Hussain who is busy when I am free and is looking for locking a shoot date when I am really occupied, so him for sure.

What are the current projects you’re working on aside from modelling?

Well, I’m in my thesis year now and I am working on pretty much just that as only that takes so much of my time and energy.

How do you keep yourself motivated and positive?

I try to find positivity in things and people around me. I find positivity in nature, in my friends, in my family, in my working studio, in music, in food. Whenever a negative thought pops up in my head I try to think about all the good things that have happened to me in the past and all the good things that I believe will happen to me in the future. I try to stay away from any negativity that can possibly bring me down. I try my best to not take roads that are either not meant for me or have proved to be wrong for me in the past.
