let them eat tart Lemon tarts are all the rage in this city, right? Whether you're at a birthday party, a work event, or a get together with your close family and friends, the lemon tart often makes an appearance and is most def a crowd pleaser. But where should you go to satiate all your lemon tart desires? This past week, I traveled all across the city on a quest to find the best lemon tart and make your life a little easier. So, where can you find the best tart in town? Check out my reviews to find out. Oh, and your welcome! BY ANAM SETHI
masoom's pancake lounge 2/5 lemons
jalal sons 3/5 lemons
kitchen cuisine 3/5 lemons
Although the modern look of Masoom's lemon tart was highly appealing, I couldn't get past the lack of flavor in this tart. The pastry was slightly soggy, and the curd didn't taste much like lemon at all. Perhaps I stumbled upon this tart on a bad day, but consistency is key, right?
I absolutely loved the traditional desi vibe of this lemon tart, and the tangy flavor of the curd was totally on point. However, the pastry crust was slightly tough, and the curd left a synthetic taste in my mouth that totally distracted from the lemony goodness of the tart.
Although the curd looked a little pale and slightly gelatinous, I absolutely loved the tartness of this delectable dessert. The pastry was slightly undercooked though, and the curd did leave a mellow aftertaste, but overall, I'd definitely go back for more.

This tart was a beauty to look at, but unfortunately, it was lacking in lemon flavor. The curd was a little too sweet and the pastry was a little too soft and gooey, but for a desi with a massive sweet tooth, this tart is a great buy!
This was a completely different lemon tart experience. The pie was served hot, with a side of vanilla ice cream, and although it seemed a little strange in the beginning, the experience totally grew on me. The curd was super tart though, and lacked a little sweetness, and the pastry was slightly undercooked and soggy. This tart is perfect for those of us who like to live on the wild side!
Shezan's lemon tart is known to be one of the best in town, and for good reason. It's slightly on the sweet side, but it's got that desi look and feel that make it simply irresistible. Oh, and the saltiness of the pastry crust perfectly complements the sweet, tangy flavor of the curd to make this dessert absolutely divine. Yummy!
the delicatessen by cosa nostra 4/5 lemons This tart wins the award for the best lemon curd in town. It's tangy and sweet and perfectly balanced, and frankly, I haven't tasted a better lemon curd in all my years of eating lemon tarts in Lahore. However, the crunchy meringue was not pillowy soft on the inside, and the tough pastry shell left a lot to be desired. But like I said, the lemon curd was simply magical!
gourmet 3/5 lemons
punjab club 4/5 lemons The coveted Punjab Club lemon tart lived up to its name! The sweet, tangy, lemony curd perfectly complemented the flaky pastry crust to create the ultimate traditional lemon tart experience. The pastry could be a little more salty though, just to add that contrast that could boost this tart to an all new level.
the pantry by the polo lounge 5/5 lemons Three words. Oh. My. God. Flaky pastry crust coupled with a tangy lemon curd and delicious pillowy soft meringue make this lemon tart to die for! This tart wins the award for the best overall lemon tart in town and it will definitely keep you going back for more. Divine!
Now, this tart wasn't the best to look at, but it did have good flavor. The curd lacked some tang and was definitely too sweet for my liking, but the pastry was perfectly flaky and the overall experience was a pleasant surprise.

Travelling is great fun. You get to explore a new place, meet new people and get wiser! We want to know more and will share with you exciting travel stories from a few special people in our section, planes, trains & automobiles! Where did you choose to go and why? We visited Japan on a two week trip. We landed in Osaka and flew out of Tokyo with Kobe, Hiroshima, Kyoto and Kanazawa in between. I have been wanting to go to Japan for their food and culture. I have eaten a lot of japanese food and read a lot about their culture so i figured it was time to experience it all first hand. Who did you travel with? I travelled with one of my friends from high school. It was an intense trip where we were always on the go and with each other every second of every day so it was great to have an old friend with you. Two was actually a great number as well because Japan may as well be a different world. Everything was alien to us so we had to get our heads around a lot of

things on a daily basis- we wouldn’t have gotten anywhere if there were more people giving their input! Of course this added to the whole experience. Where did you stay? We stayed in backpackers hostels, hotels and a friends house throughout the trip. The places where we would spend the all of our time outside we only needed a bed so the hostels were perfect- and because it is Japan it was incredibly clean! We had a friend in Tokyo so we also stayed with a Japanese family for a few nights which was another insightful way to learn about the culture. What are the best shopping spots there? The best shopping in Japan will be in Tokyo. For Japanese

fashion check out the Harajuku and Shinjuku districts. In the Shibuya district you’ll find all of the biggest global brands but for a more edgy shopping experience have a wander around Shimo-Kitazawa. You can find some cool gifts here too for friends and family!

What can you do over there to relax and unwind? Japan is a place where tradition and innovation co-exist seamlessly. It is not uncommon (especially in Kyoto) to stumble across a 14th century temple in the centre of an urban metropolis. They’re incredibly respectful and honourable people who value privacy and personal meditation so I would suggest to wander into these people, switch off and admire all the amazing architecture and the colours surrounding you. Finally, any tips? Get a local data only SIM as soon as you land. Without google maps you will get nowhere. Also be warned that no one speaks English!

Tell us about the sights noone should miss out on Go to as many castles and temples as possible. One of the best is Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto. Make sure you go in either autumn or spring where you’ll catch the autumnal colours and the cherry blossoms respectively. Both are spectacular sights-

Suggest some amazing restaurants there? Japanese people take their food incredibly seriously so there is no shortage of fantastic restaurants for all budgets. Usually where you see lots of locals queuing up is where the best food is- sometimes the wait is really long but more than worth it. This is especially the case for ramen restaurants im afraid. For sushi go to the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo. Get there at the crack of dawn to witness the famous tuna auctions. In Kyoto there is nowhere better to start eating than Nishiki market- you’ll be able to try everything under one roof. Izakayas are essentially Japanese tapas restaurants with lots of small plates- locals love going after work so theres a really nice atmosphere there.
some of the best colours you can see in nature. Additionally, the atomic bomb memorial and museum was one of the most interesting moments of our trip- be warned though, its very emotional being there! Lastly, Tokyo should be a certain stop on your trip. It truly is one of the greatest cities in the world. Be sure to walk around all of its neighbourhoods and soak in its unique vibes.
