Pakistan rejects Indian remarks on Pak-China strategic dialogue ISLAMABAD staff report

Pakistan has strongly rejected the unwarranted and irresponsible comments made by the spokesperson of Indian Ministry of external affairs (Mea) on the joint press release of the second round of China-Pakistan foreign Ministers’ Strategic dialogue. the foreign office (fo), in a statement on Sunday, said that Indian Mea’s contentions about jammu and Kashmir being the socalled “integral and inalienable part” of India and an “internal affair” are a laughable fiction, totally contrary to historical and legal facts and in violation of the relevant united Nations Security Council (uNSC) resolutions. It said that India’s self-serving claims regarding jammu and Kashmir, including the parts which are under illegal Indian occupation, have no basis whatsoever. the fo said that Pakistan also categorically rejects India’s malicious propaganda against the China-Pakistan economic Corridor (CPeC), which is another manifestation of desperate Indian attempts to mislead the world community. Islamabad said that India has no locus standi on the issue – historical, legal or moral. the regurgitation of false claims by India can neither change facts nor divert attention from India’s state-terrorism in the Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) and its egregious violations of human rights

Sindh CM says $10bn required to modernise Karachi newS DeSk Sindh Chief Minister Murad ali Shah on Sunday claimed that at least $10 billion were required to modernise the port city’s infrastructure. Shah talked about Karachi’s problems along with some major representatives of the main political parties during a television programme. taking note of the new monsoon spell that entered the city on july 26-27, he commented, “the city’s issues are not new; they have been here for some time. In the past four years, we have worked a lot on cleaning the storm drains in the city.” “there was a lot of rain back in 2007 when nearly 200 people had died,” he added. the chief minister also talked about how the Sindh government has been giving funds to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to clean the nullahs of the city. “In the last four years, we cleared many nullahs in the city. despite the rain the water was cleared within three to four hours,” he said, adding, “the major problem is due to a major structure which has blocked all nullahs in Karachi, which are the responsibility of the canton-

of the Kashmiri people. rather than resorting to false and misleading assertions, India should faithfully implement its international obligations, said the statement. India must immediately vacate its illegal and forcible occupation of IoK and let the Kashmiris exercise their inalienable right to self-determination through a free and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the united Nations (uN) as enshrined in the relevant uNSC resolutions. In another statement on Sunday, fo Spokesperson zahid hafeez Chaudhri rejected the assertions made by some sections of the Indian media, as to Pakistan admitting to the presence of certain listed individuals on its territory, based on the information contained in the Statutory regulatory orders (Sros). the spokesperson said that the Ministry of foreign affairs issued two consolidated Sros on august 18 reflecting the current status of the uN taliban and da’esh and al Qaeda Sanctions list. he said these lists contain names of individuals and entities designated under the two sanction regimes established pursuant to the uNSC resolutions. the spokesperson said the consolidated Sros are issued periodically as a routine matter. he said similar Sros were issued, by the Ministry of foreign affairs, in the past, as per statutory requirements to meet Pakistan’s international obligations.

CM Murad emphasised that although 187mm of rainfall was recorded in Surjani town and Nazimabad, the rainwater was cleared in 3-4 hours. “Shahrah-

e-faisal was not blocked despite the heavy rain,” he added. he also said that in the past four years, a lot of work was done to clean the nullahs, yet water still stagnated at Kda and Nagan Chowrangis for four or five days. “even now, there’s rainwater in New Karachi,” he added, saying the government had been giving funds to the KMC to clear the nullahs. CM Murad said that he had met the National disaster Management authority (NdMa) Chairman Lt Gen Muhammad afzal, a few days ago, and was grateful to the authority for clearing three nullahs in Karachi.
