SHC serves notices on disqualification plea of PPP lawmaker over Jokhio murder

The Sindh high Court (ShC) has issued notices to parties on a petition filed by Barrister Ali Tahir seeking the disqualification of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Jam Awais Bijar Khan, who was indicted in the Nazim Jokhio murder case.

The court has summoned their replies within three weeks, and Jam Awais Gohram, the speaker of

The caretaker minister of education for Punjab, Mansoor Qadir, accompanied by School education Secretary Faisal Fareed, made a visit to the Punjab education Foundation (PeF) head office today.
Upon their arrival, the managing director of PeF, Manzar Javed Ali, warmly welcomed the visitors.
During the visit, Ali provided a comprehensive overview of the “Shahr-i-ilm” project and other essential initiatives.
The project aims to open 336 new schools in approved Union Councils of Multan, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Rahimyar Khan, and Sheikhupura. The project will offer free education to approximately 89,000 underprivileged children under the education Voucher Scheme (eVS).
The petitioner argued that Khan had paid Diyet (blood money) to the family of the deceased in the murder case but had not remained truthful and trustworthy after doing so. The petitioner cited clause 53 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which considers Diyet as punishment.

Minister praised the project and suggested that schools should be established in slum areas of approved districts where no schools currently exist. The Public-Private Partnership model of PeF was also commended. The secretary also commended the project, saying that it would greatly benefit underprivileged families. he added that project funds would be released to PeF soon to enable smooth project implementation. Ali provided detailed explanations of the Foundation Assisted School (FAS) programme, education Voucher Scheme (eVS), New School Programme (NSP), Cholistan Community School, Cholistan Mobile School, and Roshan Thal Project. During the meeting, he also revealed that an additional 500,000 children could receive free education through PeF education projects with more funds.
Sindh Assembly on PS-79 (Thatta-iii), was served a legal notice in the case.
The petitioner further alleged that the police did not conduct a fair investigation due to the influence of the accused.
Khan and his associates were booked in October 2021 for allegedly torturing an activist, Nazim Jokhio, to death as he tried to stop their illegal hunting of the houbara bustard, an endangered species, in the Memon Goth area of Karachi.
Two police officials were martyred while five others received injuries in terrorist attacks on policemen deployed on census duty in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank and lakki Marwat districts, police and Rescue-1122 confirmed on Monday.
Constable Khan Nawab was martyred while police constables Shah Nawaz and Aslam Khan, levies official Bismillah, Frontier Constabulary official Abdullah and driver eid Jan received bullet injuries in an armed attack from terrorists on a police van deployed for the security of census staff in Tank’s Kot Azam area.
The injured officials retaliated and forced the attackers to retreat who later escaped from the scene. Meanwhile, a fresh contingent of in another attack in lakki Marwat’s Parwala village near Sadar police station, two terrorists targeted Constable Dil Jan deployed on census duty and martyred him on the spot.
The martyr and injured were moved to District headquarters hospital Tank for medical treatment where their condition was stated as being stable.
The terrorists managed to escape after the incident. A heavy police contingent reached the spot and surrounded the area and initiated a search operation. Similarly last week, a cop was martyred while four others were injured in a terrorist attack targeting a census team in KP’s Dera ismail Khan district. The banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
